Motorola Edge 50 Neo (256GB/12GB) $619.20 (+ $100 MasterCard by Redemption) Delivered @ Mobileciti

MTSV10

Have been patiently waiting for a good deal on a mid/high spec phone with a smaller screen size. So many phones these days with decent specs are too big screen for my needs.

Phone is $699 retail at JB, but using this deal for 10% off at Mobileciti makes the sale price $619.20, with the promotional $100 mastercard gift card included in the sale, making the final price $519.20.

The Motorola Edge 50 Neo stacks up pretty nicely for this price, recently released and Moto now have extended years of Android OS support. Was considering a Samsung S22 or Google Pixel 8a but preferred the Neo for lots of little reasons.

Could wait for BF sales but decided it'd take a special deal to get this down around the $500 mark. I'll take my chances.

Motorola Edge 50 Neo 5G (Dual Sim, 256GB/12GB, 6.4'', PB310019AU)
68W TurboPower charging
Chipset Mediatek Dimensity 7300 (4nm)
Battery Capacity 4310 mAh

I read some reviews that the camera is lagging in between taking multiple shots, which is a deal breaker for me.

  • +5

I've been looking at this phone as an option too. Negatives seem to be the camera lag, and UFS storage speed. I think I rad it was UFS 2.0 / 2.2. The lack of an sd card slot is a bit of a shame too.

    • +2

I was also looking at this phone. But another negative is that it doesn't do any of the Apt-X bluetooth codec (as far as I can tell).

      • It won't do them as they're a Qualcomm codec. MediaTek chip usually means no Apt-X codec support.

        • +1

It has aptx and aptx hd, I am able to switch and use it in developer options, Qualcomm made those two open source 2 years ago

          • @zachhambo: On an Aussie bought Neo? That's good to know.

            • @AdrianW: Yes, I don't exactly recommend it though, check my other comment

      • It does ldac though, are they that much different?

        • LDAC is arguably better, which is cool, except that many headphones/speakers don't support it. So the ideal is to have as many choices as possible so you're not stuck having to use something weak like SBC

A decent step up from the $439 Edge 50 Fusion, as it includes a telephoto camera and wireless charging. At the expense (for some) of a smaller screen size (6.4" vs 6.7") and battery is smaller as you would expect (5000mAh vs 4310mAh). This Neo also has a slightly better processor, display and I think (please double check) 5 years OS updates vs 3 years.

5 years OS updates vs 3 years

Correct. 5 years is a very unusual for Motorola compared to most of their other models, even more expensive ones like the Edge 50 Pro. The real test will be seeing how well they can fulfill this advertised 5 year update.

      • Finally getting the picture ,it took long enough .

    • what attracted me in this phone is exactly the smaller form factor

perhaps the lag will be fixed with OS updates, this phone has just been released

No SD Card, why Motorola, Why?

Don't be like Samsung, let us have the Stereo Jack and SD Card.

Execs look at the differences between theirs and the market leaders (Apple and Samsung).

$30 billion over 20 years engineering a good hardware and software ecosystem? nah too expensive.

$3 billion yearly marketing campagins? nah too expensive.

they have no headphone jacks and microsd slots but we do? alright cheap enough to copy. that must be their differentiating factor. do it!

      story of htc.

Cloud storage is cheap and comes with the benefit of not losing everything when your phone dies. SD card dies? data gone

      • +2

I just keep FLACs on SD for never ending music. If it dies I copy over again.

        • I have Apple Music for that

SD card is made useless by Moto not allowing moving App to SD, well, other than if you shoot a lot of videos, sigh.

Soooo, I just bought this phone recently. Very nice super bright LTPO (1-120hz) screen, good battery life (best out of edge 50 lineup) and camera hardware but trash photo processing (sharpen filter, laggy ui and just general poor quality), luckily gcam 9.2 works fine and makes photos look amazing. Phone has several bugs including 20 second wifi dropouts, laggy 4k video playback, moto app launcher crashing popup when using 3rd party launcher, diagonal pattern on screen when at very low brightness to name a few. Mostly great hardware let down by poor software. Regarding UFS 2, it is an optimised version (uMCP) which is nearly as fast as UFS3, Ram is only 5GB/s ddr4x though.

I just purchased this phone after reading this post. It should be a solid upgrade from my Redmi Note 5. Shortly after placing the order, I received a call from a lady at Mobilecity asking if I would prefer $100 cashback instead of a Mastercard gift card. That’s great - I’m not a fan of dealing with gift cards!

Is this better than Samsung S20 FE?

  • It's a deal but too many upvotes. Barely a deal

  • Apart from raw cpu horsepower, how can this phone have better specs in everything else compared to a $1600 iPhone 16? That Apple ARM CPU worth $1000?

    • The 16 Max costs Apple $485 to produce.

  • seems ok, but it's still quite a large screen!!! i would love a smaller phone…

someone should make one of the folding phones but… just the half. i literally want half of a z flip. please.

    • Not that small but Pixel A series (like 8A) are small.

Or there's this tiny thing which probably won't work here next week.

  • The discount code still works, and there are phones in stock, I just got 2.

I called and they also confirmed cash back $100 each phone still valid til tonight, says it on the deal still to the 23rd.
