Speaking as a fellow drone pilot - I would strongly recommend running 2-3 lower capacity SD cards and alternating them occasionally if you're capturing valuable footage. If your single big card fails (it happens more often than you'd think) then you can lose an awful lot of data that can be difficult or impossible to recapture.

    • 64.or 128 -is the your frirnd suggested ?

      • +3

Depends on the resolution and other settings. If I were to fly DJI, which generally takes around 20 minutes or longer, I'd do one memory card per battery. Swapping a new memory card takes about 30 seconds, so I might as well do it. FPV would be a different story. However, it increases the amount of file management in post-production. Hence, it's more expensive to get two instead of one with the same capacity. But since memory cards can be so cheap nowadays, it might be well worth the investment. I consider it as an insurance.

        • Thank you for your suggestions.

      • When I'm flying for work, I use 64GB cards, and change out after every 2 flights (approx. 40 minutes of flight). That means I have plenty of spare capacity on the card, but don't risk losing too much time if a failure occurs. That's about as much risk as I'm willing to take, considering that operations often need to be halted while I'm flying (for safety & legal reasons) and needing to re-work will cost everyone a lot of money and good will.

I will typically initiate file transfer to a laptop while changing batteries, and it will copy over while I'm doing the next flight. The minor additional effort to change cards and extra cost to purchase 2 separate cards is worth it.

Besides, if you have several cards and accidentally leave one behind, you probably still have a spare or two. If you forget your one big card, you're screwed.

        • Sorry but I have to ask, what do you do for work?

          • @parad0x: Sounds like a fun job flying a drone all day and getting paid heaps

          • +2

            @parad0x:

what do you do for work?

I am (among several other things) a drone pilot who flies missions for site investigation work - condition assessments and photogrammetry capture of buildings and structures.

Due to legal and safety requirements, I sometimes need to have traffic controllers or security wardens to ensure people and vehicles are not in danger during over-flights of public areas. In some areas, a data loss would mean a delay of weeks to renew approvals to close roads again, and tens of thousands of dollars in additional staffing costs - have a guess how I know this?

It's really only a side-line of my normal job in a large consultancy.

Sounds like a fun job flying a drone all day

It's often fun at the start, but the responsibility can be quite stressful and after a few hours of continuous flying, it's really not that much fun anymore. Try looking up at the sky continuously for 20 minutes at a time and see how long it takes to get a sore neck and back.

            and getting paid heaps

Sadly not "heaps" although I'm not complaining either.

  • What is the max capacity can DJI action 3 take?

    • +1

Based on the DJI page its says its 256gb max. Link

      • Thank you. Action 4 looks like can take 512G

    • I'm here for the same reason. I purchased a card previously which works OK but if I format it in the Action 3 it doesn't record properly. It only works if I format the card on a computer first, bizarre. Was looking to get something new.

    • i use 512gb in my dji action 3

  • Nice price I really want a 512gb card for my dash cam but think this won’t do it. Anyone know?

    • Keep in mind your dashcam max supported. I made that mistake before.

    • +1

Dashcams are generally recommended to use high endurance memory cards, which are supposed to handle more write and erase cycles.
      Here's a similar deal from Centrecom: https://www.centrecom.com.au/sandisk-high-endurance-256gb-uh…

As mentioned above, check the maximum size your dashcam will support. Some won't be able to work with high capacity cards due to software limitations.

      • Thx yeah noticed that one but no 512 which is what I want

        • +1

Clearly didn't sanitise my links properly.

They do make 512GB though $91 @ Amazon
          $80 @ Flashtrend

Didn't note postage so may make the difference

      • I'm sure the endurance cards are also rated for high heat.

      • There's a Sandisk High Endurance and Sandisk Max Endurance. My dashcam (Viofo A229 Pro) recommended Max endurance and I made the mistake of buying high endurance, eventually my dash cam started giving me SD warnings within 6 months of use. Max endurance is double the price of the high endurance. Just some food for thought.

        • Interesting. I had an Endurance in my Viofo A129 for 3 years with no issues, and that car spent a lot of time in the sun over summer.

  • Anyone know if another store would price match to save on delivery fee?

    • +1

I matched with JB hifi as its the closest to me, had no issue with them.

    • It's in the title and description

(Price Beat from $36.1 @ OW)

      • Yes thank you Lucille, I had miss read that.

  • Thanks OP, great first post!

Gonna haul ass to OfficeWorks and get me a couple!

  • Should I get that for my TapoC425?

  • Thanks OP got one from Officeworks

  • +2

512g went down to 60 before. Should I wait for Black Friday?

    • Wondering whether to return mine to OW for a refund now that you and wait until Black Friday too now that you mention it.

      When did it go down?

      • +1

Did you pay via CC per chance? Many have price protection

        • As a matter of fact I did. In addition - it was with OnePass' generous 365 day returns policy, OnePass' 365 day price protection, if you will.

  • +1

Holy crap, just checked the R/W for this guy because comments were very excited, but the price didn't seem amazing for the capacity to me…. Now I'm thinking I should head down to OW and grab some!

  • Is this a good price for the 512gb? I can have it delivered from Amazon for $78. Saves me a trip to officeworks

    • +1

It's a good price, but Amazon did have them for like $60 last year on Black Friday, so might be worth the wait.

  • Just price beat the 512GB at OW for $71

    • +1

OW does 5% price beats. I always confuse it with Bunning's 10%

      • +1

I always forget about Bunnings price beat, because it used to mean nothing… But now that they stock tech… I've been overpaying for sure!

        • OMG, I did not know Bunnings did price beat and with 10% too! Will have to remember that for next time

  • Are these suitable for a nintendo switch?
    looking at the 256gb card

  • for anyone playing at home - I just called the officeworks number, got them to price match, told them I wanted delivery via onepass, paid on the phone and they are going to send me the 128gb version for $23.75. They obviously know the competitors prices as the consultant told me the price and the transaction was done easily and delivered for free. I cannot recommend onepass highly enough.

  • CentreCom page originally said this deal expires 06/11, now extended to 11am 11/11 for 256GB and 512GB. Looks to have expired for 128GB.
