Works out at equivalent of $39.99 for 700ml normal bottle if you're wondering what to compare it to

Also as a comparison, it's like a $39.99 discount on something tasty by not buying this

Why did i get negged for this comment? Lol!!!

      • Not enough boost

        • And not enough boast.. should have said you walked out with a trolley full

      • could be because sharing would hv been more helpful than the humble brag

A couple years back, this was the standard price for 1.75L at Costco and often discounted $10-15. I found they haven't been well priced on booze for a while now

The excise on this bottle has risen $10.50 since the start of 2022. So it sounds about right.

Your Honor, my client claims that she simply forgot she was carrying this bottle of… delicious bourbon… brownest of the brown liquors… so tempting… [puts the bottle to his ear] What's that? You want me to drink you? But I'm in the middle of a trial!

    Thanks OP, Monday night sorted!

    • nothing will sort my Monday night unless it has VSOP written on it

need a deal on Hennessy or some such

      • Vsop

        go the xo

        • I reserve XO for fridays lol

      • In one of the recent Coles Online deals you could have gotten the Hennesy VSOP Cognac for $74. I think it was spend $100+ get $25 off. I got the Hennesy $99 + Chewing gum $1.65 for $100.65 - $25 discount and some CR cashback. Came out to be $74. This was probably 2 months ago.

        • dammit how did I miss that

          • @shabaka: Also if you're a Cognac/Brandy person, I highly recommend Armenian Cognac. It's a hidden gem. There's not much around in Australian stores and usually out of stock but definitely try the Ararat Nairi (20yrs) or Ararat Dvin (15yrs). They are usually around $250 and $220 here. Locally, the 20yr is $205 AUD when converted. Armenia (and Georgia) are known to have the oldest wineries in the world and the regions are well known for producing exceptional wine and spirits.

Instead of spending $80-$100 on Hennessy VSOP, I'd rather spend it on Ararat 10 Year Old Akhtamar Brandy for $85 which is a more superior drop IMO.

@gezza90: thank you for the reminder, I used to be a big fan of Armenian wine and cognacs but completely forgot about their existence somehow along the way

the years have not been kind, huh

I'll look into it, quite excited actually. thank you my friend.

Thankfully these are screwtop, why the hell are they storing them sideways?

    • -1

You'll be sideways after in a planter box

      • At least they look upright then

  • I wanted to calculate the tax paid on this item. I don't normally do this, so if I've messed up the calcs let me know.

Other excisable beverages exceeding 10% by volume of alcohol.
$ per litre of alcohol: $103.89

    • 1750ml at 40% = 700ml of alcohol.
    • 700ml = $72.7 of excise tax

    • GST = 99.99 / 11 = $9.09

    • 99.99 - 9.09 - 72.7 = $18.20

$18.20 for 1.75L of imported reasonable quality bourbon.

Edit: It's after August 2024 so the rate is actually $103.89 now.

  • Saw this at costco casuarina (south of Perth ) the other day. Didn’t take much notice. But it looked like plenty there

  • I managed to buy one for $94.99 a couple of weeks ago.

  • Does anyone know if dan price match? Thanks.
