For those who are interested in this whipper snipper,

This is single string whipper snipper which means it is not very strong and it uses the thinnest string you can get in the market. I tried thicker strings but it simply did not work at all…

I have been carrying this one on my van just for small like 4m2ish yard. It is not strong but very easy and quick to use this one and I actually enjoy using this.

Just keep in mind that this uses a single string. Remember single string.

Also try using dewalt flexi volt battery with it. Normal Worx 4ah or 2ah is not strong enough.

    • Not sure if good or bad after this comment…. :X

I have one and it's fine. I bought a bulk roll of 30m line for 15 bucks years ago and I don't care how much the line snaps during use. I don't think I use correct technique or anything, but I'm happy with it.

    • +1

So this shares battery with dewalt flexi volt? I thought Worx shared battery system with like Toolpro etc? I ask as i'm trying to find spare batteries for my Toolpro impact wrench hah

      • I can only confirm sharing with the Supercheap Auto (SCA) brand. It also supposedly works with the Rockwell brand, although I'm unsure if it's one or two-way compatible (Rockwell battery into Worx tools, or vice versa)

        • +3

Can confirm it works with Rockwell and I think the sca one mentioned above is called toolpro? Yeah works with those. I have both and have tried both

      • No I mean with worx2dewalt adapter

      • +2

I have WORX, ToolPRO and Rockwell skins with corresponding batteries. All batteries power all skins but you need to chisel off one of the ridges on the Rockwell 18V Lithiumtech. Rockwell batteries need their own charger, WORX and ToolPRO batteries and chargers are fully inter-operable. The advantage of these brands is how cheaply you can acquire a range of (brushless) power tools and power garden. I have drills, impact drivers, impact wrenches, low-pressure washer, circular saw, blowers, LED work lights, & strimmer. When I'm doing automotive work I have multiple wrenches to hand, so no need to swap sockets. For wheel nuts I have a 20V ToolPRO impact wrench, a stand alone tool that needs its own battery & charger.

    • I have one and used it for 2 years. I like using it, and does clean edges on my lawn. Can shop down great up to 30cm high or so. It’s not going to cut down a forest, but it’s fine for home gardening.

  • Is Worx a good brand? I've not heard of them before.

    • I don't think so. I bought some stuff on clearance from sca (like $30 drill with battery and charger). (Back then I had the mower too but it died under warranty so I returned for a refund so obviously wouldn't recommend it).
I feel like it's very overpriced for what it is. I'd put it on par with aldi and ozito, but it's priced like it's dewalt (IMO). Interested if anyone disagrees.

      • I would actually rate Worx worse than ozito. At least ozito is easy to return.

        • I disagree. I’ve had worx drills, the above trimmer and other stuff. The build quality is significantly better than Bunnings Ozito. All items have 3 year warranty.

      • I really like the new Toolpro 18v brushless stuff. It goes hard if you pick it up either in clearance or during a sale. For example Toolpro 600nm impact wrench for $240 with 5ah battery and charger is a bargain and it goes well.

I use the $40 clearance impact wrench (300nm) all the time and it is really solid. Just would like a few more batteries.

    • I have Dewalt tools and Worx tools.
It is better than Ozito for sure.
It is not as good as Dewalt, Makita or Milwaukee but good enough for DIYers.
Feel like it is in between Ryobi and AEG??

      • If you're not using the tools daily they're good enough; and so inexpensive if you go for pre-owned

        I have the followings
        - Worx finish nailer : better than Dewalt finish brad nailer as dewalt one is hopeless
        - worx pegasus workbench : very sturdy. Very good
        - worx circular saw (20V Cordless EXACTRACK 165mm) : not as strong as Dewalt’s one but I like it
        - worx blower : love it
        - worx multi tool : as other brands. Works okay
        - worx jaw saw : heavy but okay
It is quite fun to try Worx tools

      • Agree!!

  • +1

I have one and would not buy again. The line melts off during use and then sticks itself to the spool constantly, at least in my use. Incredibly frustrating.

    • This for sure.I thought that it was a manufacturing fault of the pools that I bought till now and didn't realise that this could be the reason. Pool sticking issue is pretty annoying. I had the ozito 18v one and definitely and improvement over that however still not strong enough to edger took for buffalo.

  • Used mine today. I like it, cheap and easy to buy aftermarket spools. I too have a collection of SCA, Rockwell and Worx tools and batteries to share.
It's especially good because it can be used horizontally or vertically or any angle in between. Sure the line breaks but for the average garden it's fine. It's not a commercial tool

  • Very light, easy to use and gets the job done. No problem whatsoever

    • Agree, but I've never been able to figure out that line feed button. What am I doing wrong? I reckon there are no robotic line trimmers because line feeding hasn't been solved

      • +2

While the trimmer is running, you press hard and release once for the line to feed. Repeat to feed again

  • Anyone have experience using the 20v pole hedge trimmer? I have some neighbours be gone trees that I want to keep in check

    • There's a discussion here

      • Thanks. Have an old Ego handheld trimmer which is great but heavy. Wanted a cheap pole trimmer so I didn't have to lug the Ego up a ladder. I do have a Rockwell pole saw which I might try

  • I bought this before because of the unique "2-in-1 Line Trimmer / Edger" but yeh its not very good. The worst feature on it is the spool. Keeps getting stuck and if you try to save money buying 3rd party spool, it makes it even worst (constant jams)

TIP: How to save money with WORX line spools

If you’ve got a WORX line trimmer, you’ve probably noticed that the replacement spools are pretty pricey—around $16 for a pack of 2, see: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B001OXDFZE/ It’s like that printer scam where they sell the printer cheap but charge a ton for the ink.

Seriously, avoid the third-party replacements; a lot of them have bad reviews on Amazon. WORX seems to have patented their design, so those knock-offs all have issues. I tried comparing the genuine spools to a couple of third-party ones, and they’re not the same. That’s why the spool lines get stuck so often.

So here’s the money-saving tip: keep your original WORX used spools! Don’t throw them away! Just grab some .065-inch trimmer line (like this one: MaxPower 338812 .065-Inch Premium Twisted Trimmer Line 128M, about $25 - https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B001JQHVEW/) and refill them yourself. You’ll save a ton of cash! Here’s a handy tutorial on how to do it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSGg6qH30-8

Also the MaxPower Twisted brand was also ranked one of the best trimmer lines on Project Farm: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89BkJF0kVyc

Other than the spool issue, it’s a decent trimmer. My only beef is with their spool system.

    • I thought the aftermarket spools looked identical. Too bad I threw my original out. From my experience the genuine vs aftermarket haven't performed significantly differently. I always expect the line to break at some point and since the replacement spools are cheap enough vs the amount of trimming I do, I don't worry so much

      • The aftermarket ones vary by quality. Perhaps you can share the link of the one that worked well. Looking on Amazon, there;s a lot of different aftermarket ones with some getting really bad reviews. I bought one off Amazon that had 4.5/5 and others on temu and aliexpress, but found it still had issues compared to the genuine brand. The Temu/aliexpress ones were the worst, but yeh they were the cheapest.

Good tip, I'm still refilling my lone original spool. I feel the need to wind much more diligently than the guy in the video otherwise the line snags itself and needs a yank to continue feeding.

    • I have the same experience.

After market spools will not release the line properly, leading to line melting and becoming stuck on the roll on the spool.

Use the 2 original spools, buy new lines and coil them into the original spools.

I have a 2-stroke (substantially more powerful) but heavy and troublesome. Got the WORX 2-in-1 as a quick edger and haven't used the petrol one since.

The comparison is like a powerful wired vacuum cleaner vs $200 handheld stick. It doesn't do the same thing, but we don't need it to do the same thing.

The handheld stick is used very frequently (at least 2-3 times a day on small areas) and rooms are done as required, probably still get cleaned once a week but it's doesn't have to on the same day now. This means no area is left dirty waiting for the next scheduled vacuum session.

    • Good advice!! Correct the aftermarket spools doesn’t work with the feed button.

      • I just buy spool line from bunnings and rewind it. Feeding works fine

Prices have gone back to full prices in the links and when added to cart.

  • Mine (WG163E.9B) arrived with 3 spools in total. 1 attached on the tool, the other 2 in a blister pack. Noice.
