The 100w is $69 that’s a no brainer compared to the 65w for the few $ extra

    • +9

Is it actually a no brainer? 50% more power for 50% more money.

      • +2

yes as most laptops and devices if you actually trying to charge multiple devices on it the 65 will fall short of full charge speeds….
i have a 65w and the 100w so talking from experience.

        • +1

Unless you're pretty sure you won't need 100W in the near future. It's also smaller and lighter.

          • +2

@Hiphopopotamus: My work laptop has 12th gen Intel, complains that a 65w charger is "not enough" and will only charge slowly

            • @twig: I don't have a laptop, the most power hungry USB-C device I have is my Switch which needs 45W.

              • -2

@Hiphopopotamus: Haha I don't choose the devices, it is what it is 🤷‍♂️

            • +1

@twig: If you are talking about Dell no matter what charger you use they will complain.

And they also reduce performance because of that alert.

Probably just to sell more Dell chargers.

              Not sure about other brands.

              • @kingarthur: have dell docks and chargers at work great with dell, hit and miss with microsoft laptops depending on model of dock …

              • @kingarthur: i have a new high spec'd XPS 15 for work, for personal use the wife has a few yr old xps 13 and i have a macbook air for personal use. the 65w wont charge 2 at once but the 100W will.. Do i need to charge 2 at once all the time.. no but its more than a few times a week for me. Never mind adding any other devices into the mix..

I think the biggest thing here is, when it comes to buying something thats just enough for your current needs is that going to be enough for covering you over the next few yrs. I dont believe in replacing a charger that works perfectly fine in a year or 2 time just because i need a few more watts

                • @quikstix: that's the price you pay for buying dell

extremely poor compatibility, hell im surprised any of them work

                  • @desync: Haha also have other devices that the 65w cant charge at full speed so irrelevant realistically

    • +1

      Link please 😬

      • i suspect this is it

        https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0CQCWVSWF

but you can search ugreen 100w and it's the 3rd one down.

        • +11

nah think they mean this one mate. It's 69.99 with code UYNXP6QD

Hate how ugreen made the plug horizontal on the one you linked because the adapter blocks neighbouring outlets. They didn't really think it through for the aussie market

          • @cultural: Thanks mate purchased thanks to this link

          • @cultural: Amazon says that the other one is a newer version. It has faster output on the 3rd USB-C port. But one is a wall plug and the other needs a cable, which is the main difference.
But yea the horizontal plug looks annoying.

Any thoughts on Ugreen vs Zyron? They have their own 100W model going for $65 which seems like a more versatile package.
4 USB C ports at higher speeds, wall plug AND cable, travel adaptors, and a usb-c cable and case thrown in.
The only thing missing is a USB-A port

            • +1

              @crentist: This looks good.
THe Zyron. Who needs a USB A port, this is better and can do wall charger or cable charger both.

Wasn't the Zyron done by the AUssie whitelabel maker ?

            • +1

@crentist: zyron? who the hell is that

unknown brand usb chargers are hard no, 40% of house fires in australia are caused by dodgy electrics like cheap usb chargers

you need to know that they are built to a certain standard, are properly engineered with appropriate safety standards and the only way of knowing that is with thorough tear down analysis and testing, the ugreens have been tested and have such reviews all over youtube, unless you can find the same from zyron then it's a HARD PASS

              no comparison

edit: all that being said this model ugreen appears to be missing safety listings too, pass
              https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qzd1vqM-C8s

              • @desync: What safety listings out of interest?

There are a lot of noname Amazon brands that are hyped up here, just have to do the research and comparisons yourself. I would go for anything less than Anker or ugreen to be honest. Otherwise just pay hand over fist for JB hi-fi brands that cost more and deliver less.

              • +1

@desync: Zyron is an Australian brand that pops up on here fairly often. They seem quite similar, but a big differentiator is that their stuff is certified.
Their reps also post here sometimes.

tbh I thought Ugreen was a no-name, but people here seem to like them a lot. So I'm wondering if there's some actual quality difference to justify it over a local brand. Especially when the pricing and everything is basically identical.

                • @crentist: Zyron > Ugreen

                • -1

@crentist: australian brand, they registered for an ABN and got a .com.au domain? is that what you mean?

come on man, it's not like any of their products are made here or certified here

if you have bought a zyron product then i'd be interested in what safety standards are mentioned

                  • +1

                    @desync:

australian brand, they registered for an ABN and got a .com.au domain? is that what you mean?

No I mean it's an Australian owned and operated brand, which seems like a safer bet than aliexpress brands because they at least need to pretend to follow Aus regulations.

come on man, it's not like any of their products are made here or certified here

Nothing is made here. And everything thats sold here is certified, including this Ugreen charger.
So certification itself isn't much of a differentiator after all.

if you have bought a zyron product then i'd be interested in what safety standards are mentioned

But it can't cook toast as well like the HeyMix ones

    • +1

You mean WeetBix. I like them toasted too. Sanitarium are bringing out a new range of GaN chargers next month: High-Fibre, Low-GI, UP&GO and Super-Vegemites

  • +1

Not an electrician, but I ponder whenever I see an electrical plug without a ground pin. Maybe its not needed?

    • +2

Most of Japan doesn’t have ground pins, this charger was helpful when travelling

    • +1

a lot of the chargers are double insulated in plastic cases, no earth needed for a plastic case.

  • +1

The HEYMIX one is $33.99 delivered. That's a better deal?

  • this one Zyron 67w comes with a cable plus travel plugs.

  • I have returned 65W uGreen charger in the OP. Unlike my uGreen Nexode 200W charger, it could not charge my Google Pixel 9 Pro XL at full speed. The most it could do was ~22W where the 200W uGreen charged it at 30-35 Watts! On paper, uGreen 65 supports PPS and should be able to charge the phone at full speed.

I've bought the 45W Click charger from Bunnings for $9.99. It performed as well as uGreen 65W for 4x lower price.

    • +4

The Pixel 9 is a weird case because it requires 21V PPS for full speed charging, you'll notice in the specs that the wall charger only supports max 11V PPS.

  • +2

100w one is now $64.98 and is worth the extra $$

  • these don't appear to have a safety listing, at least not when reviewed by this youtuber

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qzd1vqM-C8s

pass for me, if this information is outdated (possible) then please post a link

    • what should the safety listing be?
Mine says CD328, he is reviewing a CD226 so who knows.

Complete Safety & Reliability: Featuring Dynamic Temperature Sensors that monitor temperature, and an intelligent PMW chip that adjusts power outputs to safeguard your devices. UL94-V0 rating shell with a heat dissipation design ensures safe overnight charging.

      Sounds 'safe' to me??

    • Here's your link. https://www.eess.gov.au/

Look up the model, it's listed and website is very crap and impossible to link nicely

      • So I checked out your site, the legacy search works better.
What does it mean if the Brand and Model returns a different certificate?
I've got the next newer number GMA-515438-EA, however CD328 is listed under GMA-515437-EA

Guess it's compliant anyway and people don't need to be worried. They wouldn't be allowed sell in AU otherwise, but wish people would stop linking that 2 year old review from the states lol.

  • No 4x Type-c port for me = no deal

  • Seems like the sale is over? It shows up as $68.95 before discount code, and $58.60 after discount code.
