Brand New MG4 Car - Issue before Pick up on H-V Module

We bought a brand new MG4 as part of the recent deal.

Our pick up date has been delayed by over a week as it apparently needs an H-V module replacement. As per the dealer some error messages have been generated which pointed to this. (I have not got the details of the error messages).

Has anyone experienced this or is familiar with this module, its significance, what does it do and ongoing implications. We are obviously very concerned given it’s a brand new car, wondering what actions we should take before accepting delivery. (risk of ending up with a lemon is playing through our minds).

Would greatly appreciate any advice from the community based on your experience with MG or knowledge of electric cars (which I have none of).

Join the FB group, MG4 Owners Australia, Lots of good info there.

Also check for the sagging undertray before accepting delivery.

I got mine yesterday. Great cheap elec car. Did 250km, including some unmade roads. Performed great. Using a commercial charger at the end of the day was a bit of a drama. But that was probably on me.

But that was probably on me

Just to clarify - the charger will plug into a matching port on the car. You don't attach it to yourself. Hope this helps with future charging.

    • You drove it 250km in a single day?

        Yes. It's not scary.

That's less than 3 hours at highway speed. Hardly unbelievable.

    • Crossing over to the dark side..

    • Pretty sure OP already posted this there yesterday

If the dealer has not detailed the reason for delay on delivery then you would have been none the wiser?

    MG? Gross

    • I hope the OP knows this is practice for what’s ahead

  • If it's a big problem dealer will probably source a different one for you. They won't want to risk you cancelling the contract. Is there a delivery date on the contract?

  • H-V module ?
Is this just Heating and Ventilation ?? has the power window fuse blown already?

whatever it is, better they picked it up pre-delivery rather than let you get 2km down the road.
Though if HV is high voltage, maybe they couldn't get it started to drive out of the storage lot?

  • I assume HV "module" means HV battery? Nothing to worry about, it's not that important.

  • HV = High Voltage.
I guess they didn't tell you specifically what module was at fault, but a delay over a week seems to indicate it would be pretty significant.
I hope they have not registered the vehicle yet, otherwise you'd have paid rego on a car before you can use it (time ticking away), in which case I'd probably demand a loaner car at the very minimum.
If it is a replacement battery pack, ask them if it was swapped with a new one, or if it was a refurb.
If it really concerns you, maybe ask them to swap to a different car (different VIN), but no idea how likely they would agree to that request.

  • I say look on the bright side, at least they picked up the issue before handing it to you only to bring back.
