Bowden's Own Wheely Clean 500ml $16 (Was $28) + $12 Delivery ($0 C&C/ In-Store) @ Repco

680

Amazing stuff.
Simply spray on and rinse of to remove "most" of the brake dust and contamination from wheels.

Edit: Thanks mod for updating the post. It was late night and I was sleepy.

    Terrible Muriel…

  • +13

So people are literally waiting for new posts these days so they can critique the title for fake internet points?

  • +7

Wheely Clean isn't very strong in my experience - Gyeon Q2M works much better for me.

    • do you know if they go on sale often? Might give it a shot

      • +1

Looks like it's 20% off at Repco currently

    • +2

For $16 it's amazing value and works well. At full price. I agree there are betters out there

    • +2

      Is this the one?
      https://www.repco.com.au/car-care-panel/car-care/wheel-clean…

I ordered 2 of the Bowden ones…happy to try something similar priced as well. No ties to any brands…though I do like Aussie made

      • Yep, that's the one

        • +2

          Cheers
Will return one of the bowdens ones when I collect and get one of these

    • +1

Agree. I'm slowly migrating off Bowdens. I love their passion and Aussie made etc, but their full range doesn't stack with some of the more specialist brands. Their auto wash and sealants are great for DIY usage. The wheely clean hasn't worked well for me as a guy with fat Brembo calipers.

This used to be my go to for wheel cleaner, but since trying Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Wheel Cleaner i cant go back now

  • +8

I bought 20L of this thinking it would be a cheaper alternative to other reactive wheel cleaners. Don't waste your money. As suggested above it's pretty weak. They have recommend Gyeon and I have gotten great results with NV Purge and Sonax

    • I'll be honest, I got a bunch of discounted Bowdens stuff. The Wheely Clean works for me, but it's expensive so I'd happily switch tactics…

Do you wash the microfibres or use bulk cheapies (Aldi etc.) and chuck them?

      • +1

Aliexpress glove mitt only for the wheels.

Wheely clean on, agitate with brushes, adding more as I go so that it doesn't dry, then rinse off.

Soapy water (car shampoo with suds) put the glove mitt on and really work on the corners, insides and edges that the brushes have missed.

Rinse the mitt after use and wash with other microfibre cloths.

      • +1

I re-use a microfibre, doesn't even need to be a fancy one, works perfectly.

    • +1

So wheels cleaner doesn’t penetrate but how does that work with a microfibre towel?

I wouldn’t mind switching but I’m a bit sceptical of your comment

      • -2

Because you're simply wiping the brake dust straight off, you don't need to sit there for minutes going through a multi-step process that costs money just to get some brake dust off. Another story if you're the type of person to let your wheels get absolutely caked black in multiple layers of brake dust over that you can't wipe it, but that takes some real negligence.

        • If it's that simple why not simply blow it off? Presumably your wheels aren't matt finish, don't get dirty from road grime, occasional tar, and dirty rain and never hits an unsealed road, or if it does you're out the next day cleaning your wheels.

Wheel cleaner is a great time saver for most people who drive their vehicle and aren't anal about it being constantly in pristine nick.

        • +1

Maybe consider other use cases than just tour own.

    • +6

It saves my fingers and wrists. 90% is done by the cleaner and the final 10% is done by hand

      • +12

My cleaner is kind enough to not make me finish by hand.

        • If you know, you know…

        • +1

Enough about vacuums and more about wheels please

    • -3

Love the downvotes on this one, probably the boomers who wash their wheels every 2 years after letting them get caked black in 100 layers of brake dust. Keep wasting your money, I'll stick to a simple wipe down that costs $0 and has my wheels looking spotless :-)

      • Guess I have money to waste then??

      • Lol, self-absorption followed by ageist conjecture. Your talents know no bounds.

There were clues to why you might have drawn negs in at least two replies, which unsurprisingly went right over your head. Here's another clue - why do you think such products exist? Yours might well be the only wheels in the world which only accumulate brake dust.

    • +1

It costs nothing to simply use another microfibre and wipe down your wheels

This only works if you do it very regularly.

As soon as you leave the brake dust on the wheel for <some time> then it becomes very difficult to remove. Hence the requirement for wheel cleaner.

      • If you're going to be leaving your wheels so dirty for so long that agitated brake dust struggles to come off, I'd hate to see the condition of the rest of the car. Alternatively, buy a small, cheap bottle of ceramic wheel coating and coat the wheels, will save a lot more money in the long run over these wheel cleaners.

        • -1

wheels so dirty for so long that agitated brake dust struggles to come off,

This is 95% of the cars on the road…

    • It may look visibly like you have removed it but it actually embeds itself in the rim, the iron remover spray disolves the metals from the brake pad, leaving the rim completely spotless

      • -1

If people truly cared about protecting their wheels from iron particles, they'd apply a ceramic coating onto them, which also makes it a lot easier to clean wheels in the first place, further rendering these wheel cleaners highly unncessary. I ceramic coated my own wheels and I can get away with a simple pressure spray if I'm lazy, and wiping them down gets them looking absolutely spotless. The other cars aren't coated and they obviously won't clean up as well with a simple pressure spray, but will still wipe down clean.

Detailer here, ridiculous price still, its 500mls guys, $32 a litre

Contact your local autosmart rep and ask for a 5L bottle of their product Red7, works just as well and cost will be around $75 ($15 per litre)

I'm pretty sure they do 1L also but unsure of price

Also for reference a 20L bottle of wheely clean is $459, a 20L bottle of red7 is around $220

    • Just checked - 4L is $85.80 shipped to NSW at retail. $0.021/mL (shipped) vs $0.032/mL from Wheely Clean (pick up).

      • Thats why I said contact your local autosmart rep

Not autosmart retail, you will save tonnes by contacting you local, they will have a big truck and you just meet them somewhere and order what you want

        • Is there a link that lists local distributors? I’ve been stuck buying from the retail store and would love to just get a 20L

          • +5

            @Ozbargainer9371: https://www.autosmartaustralia.com.au/contact.php

Best of luck, i also love there product Trucksteam at 1:1 dilution for tyre cleaning (removes all browning)

And G101 for interior cleaning (plastics, vinyl etc) ratio i put about 1cm in a 1L spray bottle

Edit- don't forget to grab a drum tap for the 20L bottles

            • @BenTheBargainer2013: You probably don’t want to remove all browning. It is there for a reason! Dressing is what you’re supposed to use on a clean wheel. Browning is the protection in the rubber oxidising.

      • Plenty of variables - wheel finish, brake pad compound, environmental factors, frequency of use esp - but most people don't need anywhere near 4l.

Used to love the Kitten brand stuff. Pretty sure it was pure acid. Sprayed some on old 60yr old brass bath fittings. Looked new by the morning. Wheels came up mint without scrubbing one bit. Bowens is basically the Vegan equivalent..

  • +1

sorry it's a downvote from me. Tried to clean my wheely bin with this stuff and it just made a mess.

    • +1

      Did you wheely?

  • +1

I moved to DIY detail all clean. Diluted 15:1 so a gallon of this makes 60L of cleaner and it’s just as good.

  • Does it also clean wheely bins?
