BORA 1200x1800mm² Centipede Portable BR-CK12S $139 + Delivery @ Beyond Tools

140

I watched a video featuring one of these last night, and this morning I searched to buy one. Totaltools lists them for $299, using the newsletter sign-up coupon code they sent in 3mins I got $10 off. I bought a bunch of other Bora products so my shipping was $22, maybe individual orders would have got me free shipping, but I was feeling generous.

Looks cool. Weighs 12kg. In stock - 5 units. Table tops extra. Does it have a levelling mechanism?

Table tops are rubbish. They are MDF which warp really easily and are expensive. Just get some sheet material for the top or make your own from formply.

Just need a CNC to make all the dog holes at the correct spacing and perfect right angles.

      • MDF is just not good enough material for a 600mm span. Left set up for any amount of time and it bows. Plus MDF loves to absorb moisture which makes the problem worse.

        • I should say I like the actual base - very handy. Just not the top.

        • It's designed to be a mobile, temporary set up so will never be left for any amount of time. It won't bow, I should know, I've had one for several years. I will agree that some shelves will bow but this is not a shelf. Moisture is also not an issue unless it actually gets wet. I've had MDF shelves out on the car port under cover so they don't get wet but they are exposed to humidty and they've been there for about 15 years. On top of that, this is a work surface. It's going to get cuts and dents and scrapes and when it gets too bad it gets replaced. MDF is fine for the purpose.

  • I also got the 2x4, accessories and Centipede Table Top, Pair, 20mm Dog Holes - BR-CK22TM by BORA × 2
    $158.00

MDF cost in bunnings is $53, but because I know I have issues making precision holes (just like the Man Made dude in the utube vid ^^) I paid the $105 extra. Carbatec sells each for https://www.carbatec.com.au/centipede-work-top-with-dog-hole… $125, and it scores well on Amazon US where it sells for US$71 https://www.amazon.com/Bora-Centipede-CK22T-Table-Stands/dp/…

Maybe 1 table top would have been better, and used it as a template for ply.
Also the accessories are on printables.

I have a couple of the 2x4 and find them very useful because I don’t have a lot of space. Being able to fold them up and hang them in a bag on the wall is great… or you can pop them in the boot to take them for work somewhere. They can handle an amazing amount of weight.

For the top I just used 12mm ply in two pieces - hinged for storage.

  • Any bunnings link to what to use as a table top?

    • If you're not sure what material to use you're going to struggle with how to attach it. I'd suggest looking at some youtube vids for this setup and see how it works then consider your options. The hole pattern also isn't there just because it looks cool. If you're not going to use that this may not be the best product or you might be better off just getting the 4x2 attachments. Really depends on what you want to use it for. Recreating the dog hole top is very difficult without a CNC. There are some special jigs etc that you can get to do it but they're a few hundred dollars on their own and it's a fairly time consuming process. Of course you could have someone do it for you but at that point why not just buy the ready to go top.

      • hmm.. I see; I think I just need flat top like a table. So something like 2 of this [link] with the attachments and a mdf board should work ?

        • If all you need is a flat surface then pretty much anything will do, MDF, plywood, melamine etc. The issue you'll have is the Bora top has metal twist lock attachment points that combine with some handles to lock the top to the legs. Any other top you buy won't have that.

You can get the accessories to use lengths of 4x2 (90x45) and I guess screw a top to that or you can get the non slip set and hope that's enough to hold the top in place. Really depends on what you're doing with it.

  • I'm seeing 169?

    • Looks like they increased the cost by $20, still a pretty good deal.
