  • Interesting concept.

    • They did one in Vic too apparently when i was writing this but it says expired

      • I went to check out the Vic deal, at 3pm the line was over 300m long, I didn't bother waiting.

  • +1

They must be making a lot of profit at full price

    • -1

Fr, a bowl of theirs cost about 20 dollars

      • +2

large bowl is 18 small is 16

    • Yeah id imagine the profit margins are quite high on them

      • +3

just F&B in general, but still not up to Italian restaurant level.

easily 30+ for a bowl of half decent pasta these days…. with a serving of house wine, easily 50 per pax.

Their margins are insane if you've been to any of their other restaurants. They'll recoup their costs at the end of the 2nd week and be green shortly thereafter.

      • +1

have you been to a coffee shop and ordered a coffee or an English breakfast tea?

        • The difference being is that a coffee shop in Sydney has to pay minimum wage to support their workers.

These guys pay cash in hand below minimum wage with their workers typically being friends of friends, so that's a significant overhead they don't have to deal with.

I would imagine most of their costs would be labour and rent? Not surprising that the ingredients would be cheap.

      • Yeah but if they can subsidise a promotion like this then they are clearly pulling in serious profits even with other costs

      • it's time consuming to make broth… check out how ramen joints are run on YT, it's similar.

    • Same as Japanese ramen shops.. high profit margins

Day 1: 1 noodle in bowl
Day 2: 2 noodles in bowl
Day 3: 3 noodles in bowl
Day 4: 4 noodles in bowl
Day 5: 5 noodles in bowl
Day 6: 6 noodles in bowl
Day 7: 7 noodles in bowl
    Day 8: Profit

  • Wear a different costume each visit.

  • Say you have a twin brother

  • Holy shit that’s huge

    • +1

they always have lines at their store in burwood at full price so i could only imagine the nightmarishly large line

      • If they open at 11am, and looking at that photo (above),
I'm guessing that the line-up would start from around 9:30am

  • Any meat on it?

    • Yeah beef

    • A few paltry pieces. Less quantity than beef in pho as a comparison.

  • Why does it have 1915 on the bowl, is that the meal number? Lol

    • Thats when they started. Im guessing.

I hope economics students are made to eat here. It will teach them about inflation.

Inflation 101 - skinny students become fat, fat students become obese.

  • is this the market city store? why grand opening? theyve been open for few years now

    • that's 1919 Lanzhou Beef Noodle, not the same quality taste

      • Lol 1919 vs 1915 versions ok…

        • +2

          1919 is 4 points better

  • For the full price this is which is $15.90 it is extremely tasty and extremely filling. People should be thanking them for not charging and arm and leg considering the amount of BS inflation price jacking most businesses are doing. Thank you Lanzhou for still keeping nice dinners affordable !!

    • In the city you can still find Thai food selling at around $12-$13 range for lunch.

      • Could you please share some examples? In this day and age, I find it's a struggle to spend less than $15 eating out.

Anyone go there? How's the line?

    • +5

The line is about 1.5hrs to get in and order, about 1-3mins to get seated and 15-20mins for the noodles to arrive.

      • Which branch and what time were you there.

        • +1

Thought this was for haymarket only as per the post.

        • went to line up at 11:10am

      • +1

Only waited ~40 min at 1pm

  • +1

Inflation is pretty crazy. Going to be a 100% inflation tomorrow. So if u cant get a seat by 2:30 does that mean you gotta pay full price?

  • +1

How’s the line today? Lots of people?

    • Seems similar to yesterday.

  • Still a massive line today at $4. They prob chose this area as it has lots of uni students who can wait all day.

They should do it everyday till it reaches the normal price to see where the breaking point is.

    • Line was about twice as long on the first two days. Yesterday's only reached the corner.

  • Lined up for an hour yesterday for $4 day

  • Is it worth the wait? I would imagine most people make more than $20 / hr
