Put your requirements into carsales search. You won't get many to choose from. Choose wisely.

My requirements are 7-Seater, can't find that option.

Select Van as the vehicle type.

Use the filters. Under body style there's an option for seat numbers.

There's currently 1244 7 seaters for sale in Australia under $10k

I once rented an 8-seater Tarago so currently 1,564 7+ seaters

        • Some of those cars have huge k's on them.
Except for a couple of the Captivas, which likely spent half their lives in the workshop.

Captiva 7 seater from Carrington Car Co. Please send us a link to the family photo on handover.

    • Only if discount applies.

Free great northern goes down a treat.

Those thongs won't be much good when it inevitably breaks down and they're walking.

Craptivas are that price for a reason. The tarago is likely to be better at high kms. ‘Cause Toyota. Maybe a diesel santa Fe or Sorrento, but the kms at that price point for any car get it checked over. I doubt you would find a good 4WD 7 seater (eg prado, Pajero, patrol) at that price.

    • Stay away from Craptiva

    • Comments are hilarious on that page. "Well done! I hope you enjoy your three days' trouble-free motoring!" LOL

Nissan Cube Cubic but you really should go for a 2007 YGZ11 with the 1.5L engine
Some other interesting options if you're prepared to haggle down from $12K. Like this stunning E350 W211 with the longest service history log I've ever seen on Carsales

    • The e350 service history includes listing the wash and wax!

      • And every two years with 2400, clear coat will be getting thin
        .

    • My pick/tip: 2007 Tarago 180K

  • Searched for Shaggin' Wagon and found this at your price range: https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/1971-holden-belmont… - however the seven seat requirement probably means you need to lay off the shaggin'

Rear engine based on the photos. Almost as good as a Porsche

    Nick Scali?

Just get any decent car with a tow bar and buy a trailer to make a 2 3 3 configuration

  • +3

At that price point there isnt really a 'best' option as it is really dependant on individual vehicle condition.

Maybe a kia carnival? But check whatever model you are looking at for common problems.

    Dont buy a Captiva.

The question is, who's sitting in the 3rd row and what do you need to find room for in terms of luggage etc

Coz if you want a car full of 7, and luggage for a weekend away, or a pram etc, it aint gonna happen with most 7 seaters. Best to look for Tarago etc

    • Great question. No luggage required or much extra space. Do need enough room for 2 car booster seats for the kids. Was looking at the Toyota Kluger but not much room in the back, might need a van.

      • +1

        100%, if you're filling a 7 seater with kids/people, just get a people mover.

Besides the space, the sliding doors are such a huge advantage with kids and not having to worry about opening them on other cars

  • old diesel Hyundai Santa Fe / KIA Sorento ? Outander < 2010 is now around $8000 or less, not that comfortable for last set of seats though

  • +1

Ford Territory's are cheap if you're into fixing cars on the weekends and don't mind excessive fuel consumption.

  • I gave my 2012 Kia Sorento to my son last year, but when I checked the value it was around ~10K.

Never had a single problem with it. Nice to drive, still looks ok, reasonable fuel consumption (diesel), very practical. The last row of seats is a little tight.
