Thanks OP. I just saw you can also buy for $3 each on Amazon if you buy a 12 pack ($36) for those that don’t have a nearby Woolies

Worth highlighting that it’s a ‘protein blend’ of six protein sources. With the top three being collagen, casein and soy isolate.

      is this good or bad..

      • +1

It's not ideal if you care about protein quality.

To elaborate on @Tight Tim's comment:

Collagen is sometimes referred to as an 'incomplete protein', as it doesn't contain all of the essential amino acids necessary to aid in muscle growth. It is more often recommended to promote healthier hair, skin and nails, which is fine if you're getting sufficient protein from other sources for muscle growth.

Casein is a slower-to-digest protein, which is good for sustained release of amino acids into the bloodstream. It is usually recommended for use in the evening, to help promote cellular regeneration over-night.

Soy isolate is fine, and most of the 'bro-science' against soy sources of protein are down to a misunderstanding. Basically, they contain phytoestrogen, which is what tends to scare people away - but the thing to note is that phytoestrogen is not chemically similar to human oestrogen, and some clinical studies have linked it to improve testosterone levels.

TL;DR: the high protein contents aren't necessarily the best formulation, and shouldn't be used as a primary source of protein for your diet to make up any shortfalls. Rather, I would say it's better used as a way to curb hunger pangs, quick post-workout snack or as a dessert treat.

Ignoring LOLOLSOYBOY idiots, the actual concern about soy is the amino profile - specifically low leucine. Technically complete, but a long way behind… whey.

Does this matter to your average ozbargainer repping 5lb plates between engineering lectures? Probably not. But it’s worth knowing that ‘45g of protein’ is misleading without context.

They are quite regularly half price at Chemist Warehouse as well, and can usually combine with their multi-buy discounts. They are on sale so often, I wonder if anyone pays full price for these, no way I'd spend $6 on a snack bar! I like the High Protein Brownie and Rocky Road, and the Crisp range. The others I'm not a fan of.

Can you upload the video? I’ve given you an upvote, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who wants to see it.

Had these bad boys a few times, super dense

Bought a bunch of them last sale, wont buy again like chewing thick cardboard lol, compare to crisp or deluxe tastes much better

  • These are ok but much prefer the Quest bars. Remind me of old school space bars!

  • It is what it is. Put in pocket in case you can't really sit down for morning tea.

  • You should be banned from ozbargain if you spend $6 on these. At $3 they still seem.expensive.

I have noticed a market trend for most bars going to 30g to 20g over the past 5 or so years.

I feel 30g is real good sweet spot.
So this is my usually go to, even if I don't have the full bar in 1 go.

As commented above, tough to chew through - best take tiny bites, Homer Simpson style

I refer to these as bricks.. Alternatively, 150gm of chicken breast for the same macros??

    • Cooking chicken breasts on the go would be hard. Of course there are cheaper and better ways to get your daily macros but these are more about convenience…

    • +1

Chicken breast isn't as good to dunk in my coffee though :)

  • The chocolate tastes like paper. Caramel is ok.
