Security Camera Setup for a Townhouse – Recommendations Needed [Melbourne]

Hey OzBargainers,

I'm planning to install security cameras around my townhouse and was wondering who everyone uses for setup? Are there any reliable and affordable installation services you'd recommend?

Also, I’m curious about which camera system works best for a townhouse setup. I’ve been considering options like Arlo, Reolink, and Nest, but I’m open to other suggestions too. Ideally, I’d like something that’s easy to manage (no batteries) and has good video quality, especially at night.

Would love to hear about your experiences with different brands, the pros and cons, and whether you went the DIY route or had someone else do it. Cheers!

    Eufy. Wireless, no subscription, easy.

  • If you’re okay to spend on an electrician/cabler then look up PoE cameras, e.g. reolink, paired with a network recorder. Otherwise battery powered cameras with solar chargers should be fine

  • If you can run a low voltage extension cable for the plug pack power supply I really like the Tapo C325WB cameras. Great night time vision, subscription not required, connects to your Wi-Fi or Ethernet and good phone app, and cheap.

  • reolink/tplink tapo and a laptop running frigate, home assistant and doubletake/compreface and months of your life setting it up

I've just installed a Wyze Cam v3 Pro with window mount. Cameras are secured inside, no annoying battery swaps. I have externally mounted Arlo (battery/solar) & Aqara (hardwired USB) but Wyze colour night vision is stunning.

  • Is this to spy on all the men visiting your female neighbour in the next townhouse, when the husband is away?

  • Reolink, but only if you want to go down the wired POE route, depending on how many cameras you need, you would eithier get the cameras individually with SD card and 1 POE switch. If u need 4 or more, itll be more economical to get the cameras with the NVR bundle.

feel free to send me a PM if you need more advice

  • I would recommend POE cameras as no need to change batteries etc if its in hard to reach places. But you will need a electrician (Due to rubbish laws and trade unions…)

  • I use Eufy for my townhouse, yep. Combined with the solar panels and it's set and forget.
There's always the issue that someone could steal the cameras by unscrewing them from the mounts. You'd have footage of it, but they'd be gone. But after 3 years its been hassle free.
