Airtasker - Need Advice on How to Proceed with Task Cancellation

I recently posted a task on Airtasker, and the assigned tasker showed up as scheduled. Unfortunately, he was unable to complete the task because he couldn’t find the correct materials. Now, I’m in a bit of a bind.

If I cancel the task myself, I’ll be hit with a $39 Airtasker cancellation fee. I asked the tasker to cancel it from his side, but he has refused to do so. I have already lodged a ticket with Airtasker support, but I’m still waiting for a response.

Does anyone have any advice on what I can do in this situation? Has anyone dealt with something similar, and if so, how did you resolve it?

Thanks in advance.

tell him to come back and complete it? that sounds reasonable

    • He can't find the correct item so he is unable to compete the task.

  • Contact Airtasker support and wait for them to fix it, that's how I've resolved it.

    Or bikies.

There's a lot of missing details here though. Where you specific about what you needed in the task before they rocked up? Why can't they find the materials? If I was rocking up and someone didn't supply enough info, I'd be annoyed they wasted my time.

Understandable. Bunnings no longer stock Kryptonite.

Also struggling to find asbestos sheeting at any local building supplies stores.

It was a plastic drain in front of a garage. I posted measurements. He asked for follow up measurements which I sent through the Airtasker chat section.

He came to my house with the incorrect size drain. He then went back to Bunnings however apparently my drain in not standard size and he could not find something that fit at Bunnings.

He then said he wanted to fix the drain in another way with industrial silicone and clean it up. I declined stating that if he used silicone then I wouldn't be able to take the plastic grates off to clean the drain in the future.

But Bunnings isn't the only place to get this kind of building material. It's his job to source it from somewhere else, or cancel the task, surely.

I'm guessing they are like you, if they cancel, they'll get a 'fee' as well.

Ok. Wait and see what they say.

Having done airtasker in the past, cancelling on a task can affect your tier (aka how much of a cut Airtasker takes)

      And reduces completion percentage

      • Ironic that leaving jobs incomplete actually raises your completion percentage…
