  • How does it (3.6 ⭐) compare to this (4.8 ⭐)?

    • Not sure if it matters to many but if you as Samsung phone user buy the golden hop ring then you'll have to deal with 2 separate apps (one for other things like from galaxy watch and one for this golden hop ring) whereas galaxy users can have all health data in one app (Samsung Health) if they buy galaxy ring.

      • Hopefully there is a way to buy it for less than half the price.

        • Wait until they launch their next Galaxy S25 series phones. They will have nice offers on ring then if you also need to upgrade phone.

same price on EDU store as well

One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them, In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.

  • If this is the Samsung price for a ring, maybe I'm glad the Apple ring rumours died off.

    • +2

It will be half price soon, this is how all tech is released by samsung these days

      • Samsung's typical thing is to have bundle deals or discount only by trade in - which isn't applicable for a new thing like this, plus being such a consumable I'm not sure how that will go. They don't like doing half price offers as it affects resale and market price.

    • There were rumours?

  • +1

    doesn't support contactless payments unfortunately

    • +4

seems like that is one of the top selling points for a device like this, why would they not include it?

      • contactless would be nice, but i'm waiting for one of these rings to pull phone notifications.
I'd take LED blinking for now while they figure out how to make haptic feedback work.

        • ring blinks

takes out phone to check notification

wonders if the ring notifications are useful at all

It saddens me that Bankwest discontinued their ring (Halo). It was only $30 or so for a wearable clone of an existing credit card. No batteries.
Pretty great backup option to have while traveling or at the beach etc

Not that I ever used mine, and by the time I travelled to foreign beaches it had been discontinued. Had to wad a 20euro note in my shoe instead :(

    • +3

So what’s the point of it then?

  • The bigger sizes have bigger batteries, anyone know where to go test for sizes?

    • "Receive the Sizing Kit
Order the Galaxy Ring and choose the ‘I don’t know my size’ option. The Sizing Kit will be shipped first, before you confirm the size of the actual Galaxy Ring."

      • Cannot select that on education store unfortunately

    • +3

My imagination just drifted elsewhere lol

    • Aliexpress currently showing $28.19 for me. Still sounds pretty good though.

      • Same, don't know where the $4 comes from. Either way, I've just shelled out for a Galaxy Watch 6 classic to replace my dead 4, so I'm hardly about to throw another half a grand on a ring as much as I want one. Definitely ordering this Colmi one to at least give it a try.

    • This looks awesome and you can even buy the newer models for a similar price, but I'm trying to understand how this company makes any money selling these, unless they're just meant for harvesting health data and selling that

  • +1

Sorry, what does the ring do for $559? Yes, I will google it as well!

    • +10

It assists in losing weight. To your wallet.

So this is essentially an overpriced ring which works as a fitness/health tracker? I understand the form factor is great and convenient but seems like an overpriced novelty item to me.

Also, do people actually find value in fitness trackers? I'm no professional athlete but I do about 6-8hrs of exercise every week and have never needed/used a tracker to tell me how I was exercising. I also don't need a tracker to tell me I slept like crap and is the reason I'm tired all day. The only time I used Samsung health was when I traveled and was just curious to know how many steps I did.

Curious to get some insights on what value they bring to people's lives.

Its mainly for the weak minded people. Looking for any type of motivation to do something a little healthy, to make them feel good about themselves. Oh look I did 1000 steps today. Maybe I'll try do more tomorrow. Then theres the people who actually workout and think this helps because they fell for the marketing. In reality Im sure they know its useless, they just want to show off they have the new piece of technology. Look at beachmuscles comment below for confirmation lol

I'm guessing you haven't heard of the Oura ring. They released their first smart ring in 2016 and 8 years later just released their 4th generation smart ring. So there's clearly a market for a smart ring.

Also, do people actually find value in fitness trackers? I'm no professional athlete but I do about 6-8hrs of exercise every week and have never needed/used a tracker to tell me how I was exercising.

Yes, some people do. If you're looking to improve your fitness it's a good way to track performance over time. You can also use one to track the effectiveness of the changes you make. Objective data over a span of many years can be useful to some people. Maybe not to you, but to others.

If you don't care about tracking your fitness then a fitness tracker would be of no value to you and that's totally fine - not every product will cater to every single person's preferences. Some products are very useful to you but are overpriced novelties to others, other products are overpriced novelties to you but useful to others.

The only time I used Samsung health was when I traveled and was just curious to know how many steps I did.

Perhaps some people are just more curious than others. :)

      • Thank you for sharing your thoughts and insights. Appreciate it.

Are you able to provide some examples of how it may track performance over time? I can see how it may help with running/swimming/cycling and tracking distance vs time etc. But outside of that…my imagination is limited…

Like for me, I go to the gym and play social sports. For the gym, I track my performance based on weight vs reps/sets. For social sports, well I don't need a tracker because its social sports and I'm not training to be a professional. So I'm not 100% sure what benefits a ring or any fitness tracker would provide to people like me. Perhaps the answer is none and that's fine. I'm just really curious to know if I might be missing out on some benefit that I'm not aware of.

Not doing cardio in the gym is the glaring issue here

          • @belongsinforums: I'm genuinely confused by your comment. It appears you think you know what my work out routine is. But just to give you some comfort since you think there's a glaring issue, my gym workouts include cardio before and after + my social sports each work provides plenty of cardio.

If you're doing cardio at gym, the machines themselves have a tracker for time/distance (albeit not the most accurate) but then again, I'm not training to run a marathon or triathlon.
I'm just training to stay fit. So unsure why I would go spend so much money to track that kind of data.

    • Haven't used a smart ring before and this will likely be my first foray into it. Definitely not cheap but higher end smart watches aren't either. Would argue this is only slightly more useless than a smartwatch, as they too are too small to have much utility without requiring the person to action a notification on their phone. For someone who specifically doesn't want a screen on their wrist, or wants some fitness tracking whilst wearing an actual watch, there aren't many other options. In my case this is the first wearable since my Xiaomi band as I don't want notifications on my wrist but want fitness tracking, and prefer wearing a nice non-smart watch.

  • One thing about the 'ring' form factor for a health tracker - when going to the gym and lifting weights etc. you have to take ring off or it pinches your fingers / gets scratched to all heck on the bars. Kind of defeats the purpose.

I bought one of these in the US a month or so ago. I like it. Gives some really good insights into my sleep patterns (i can't sleep with a watch on), combines steps between my three devices. I got the size 11 (bigger version) and are getting about 5 days out of it - haven't let it go flat, so not 100% sure on the full battery distance.

My only point to make, the shop i got it had the samsung test rings. Got the one that fits, however the test rings have a weak point in it, so they can get over your stumpy fingers if you try the wrong size (so it expands - it is plastic.) So what i thought was the right size, has turned out, i probably needed one size bigger. I can get it off to charge, but it is an effort and my tub of lube gets a second use.

Is it worth the money? Probably not, but i think it looks cool (got the black), it gives me cool information, i have enough disposable money to not be too concerned at the cost of it.

Ordered Titanium Silver from the Edu store on 25/10. Received the sizing kit on 28/10, immediately confirmed the size and the actual ring just arrived today 29/10 (I'm in CBD Victoria). I went with size 7 from the sizing kit and it's pretty much dead on with the actual ring. Wearing it on my fourth finger (left hand), which is a bit larger than my wedding band that I've been wearing for over 12 years. So, just gotta get use to the feel. I am also wearing it with my Watch6 and S24+. Will post an update in a few weeks.
Bought this for no other reason than I like gadgets and to track my naps on weekends because I'm more interested in nap times than lap times.
