Exercise Bike Advice Yesoul/Peloton/NordicTrack/Other

G'day all. Chasing an indoor cycling bike, there appears to be a fair few brands out there. I'm trying to piece together what's worth purchasing

Any solid advice would be great.

Second hand. Most exercise bikes are used a lot initially, then eventaully turn into an expensive, elaborate clothes hanger.

    • I was sensing this maybe the case..m

      • I’d be somewhat wary of second hand. Sometimes they are wobbly, out of alignment, make annoying clicking noises, resistance is out or aren’t as smooth to ride. They also are easily damaged in transport once set up so can acquire these issues after you pick it up. This is going to put you off using it and might kill exercise goals.

  • do you care about the companion app/ tracking ?

    • Im open to both tbh.

  • I bought my wife one from Big W on clearance for less than $100 thinking she’d only use it for six months, a decade later and she still rides it 5 days per week most weeks.

I went Concept2 Bike. Love it. Bought device holder for my ipad, means I can use it as a straight exercise bike, with Zwift, or just straight chugging along in zone 2. The thing is built like a tank.

    • Any particular reason you went with this over the other brands?

Because concept 2 is a top quality brand without all the bells and whistles.

      • As focusrider said. Top quality build was important to me. I also didn’t want to be tied down to any subscription unless I chose to be.

The concept 2 works with Zwift (doesn’t automatically change resistance) and others exercise apps. So I can choose to use them or not. It auto uploads my workouts to Strava.

Oh and doesn’t need power. I like that also.

  • Peloton is pricey but amazing - brilliant classes and community.

    • Any reason you went for this over the nordictrack?

      • Studio rides, pelofondo marathons, Netflix/streaming/kindle books, and a massive online community that is super friendly and supportive.

  • We have a Peloton Bike+ and Peloton Guide in our home gym, along with the $59/mth all-access membership. Gets regular use almost daily since COVID days. Top quality hardware and massive variety of classes. If you are seriously considering it, they have a 30-day home trial which is handy.

    • Ahh great to know they have a home trial!

      • Yup. $59 a mth is a bit, but we share it across the multiple people at home and the subscription does includes all the classes from spin bike to strength, yoga + more. The app is also great for hotel room body weight classes when travelling.

  • I have a NordicTrack S22i Studio Bike which is about 2-3 years old. I picked it over the Peloton because of the larger number of outdoor rides which keeps me and my partner more interested in it. I hate the studio style workouts, which when we bought it 2-3 years ago was heavily the focus of the Peloton (not sure about now). Build quality is very good and it's a cheaper up front cost than Peloton.

    • This is the exact feeback I was looking for. They seem to be on sale ATM for $1999 however a few on marketplace around the $1500 mark.

One thing I'm scratching my head about is there is a group dedicated to them breaking down outside of warranty. Have you had any issues to date?

      • No problems at all, the only thing we did was replace the seat as it was very uncomfortable. I bought the runout stock of the previous year's model and I know they have changed the seat since because of the amount of feedback they got.

  • My wife bougth a pretty cheap yesoul spin bike a few years ago. Uses it ~3 time as week and is still happy with it Still works well.
