In the lead up to the busiest time of year, I'd like to share our recommended domestic and international parcel last lodgement dates, to help deliveries arrive in time for Christmas.
Christmas lodgement dates for most Australian states
We are recommending lodgement by the following dates for delivery by Christmas (excludes items sent to and from Perth and Darwin):
- Parcel Post: Friday 20 December**
- Express Post: Monday 23 December
- StarTrack Express: Friday 20 December
- StarTrack Premium: Monday 23 DecemberItems sent to and from Perth and Darwin with Parcel Post and Express Post need to be lodged by 13 December to be delivered by Christmas.
For all items collected by one of our trucks or vans and taken directly to our processing facility. For Parcel Post items lodged over the counter, please lodge by 2:30pm on 20 December.
For more detailed state lane breakdowns (including Perth and Darwin) please visit the Australia Post and StarTrack websites.
For Express Post and StarTrack Premium parcels, please be aware there may be ongoing challenges relating to the Sydney Airport curfew. This largely relates to the timeliness of priority and next-day deliveries to Perth, regional NSW, Canberra, Adelaide and Melbourne, via Sydney. We recommend that you lodge your items as early as possible throughout November and December to reduce the possibility of any delays.
Christmas lodgement dates for sending overseas
For both domestic and international destinations, items sent after these dates will be delivered as quickly as possible, but they may not arrive until after Christmas.
Through investment in our delivery infrastructure and adding more capacity across our workforce, you can rely on us to deliver during the busiest time of the year.
Thank you for choosing Australia Post. We are here to support you, and we look forward to helping you create a great delivery experience for your customers.

Don't want to spoil Xmas now! Better get it out in time!
Lol cut off is 13 Dec for Express Post in Perth and Darwin. Are they transporting parcels via horseback or something?
Considering that the 13th is a Friday, it really gives them 7 business days to deliver the package.
Are they transporting parcels via horseback or something?
Have you seen how slow they are on Outback Truckers?
Shouldn't take more than 2-3 business days tops. Pre-covid Express was Guaranteed next day delivery (even if posting on a Friday - it would be delivered Sat). I can't remember how many additional days they tacked on for Perth/Darwin pre-covid but I'm fairly sure it was either 1 or 2.
AusPost I've always had slow WA > VIC or reverse.
StarTrack, best I've had is WA to Regional VIC overnight (obviously came via Air).
I am guessing that they are factoring that these two states will be via Road than Air.
Express Post normal travels by air between capital cities.
I always allow 1 to 2 days in advance post from Australia post, guess I'm scarred with their constant late deliveries….
I sent 2 items via Express post from Metro Sydney in their express post postcode next day list and sent around 1pm as the cut-off time is around 3pm-330pm (from what the Aust Post rep said to me), both items to Melb and Brisbane were in the next day postcode list too, both arrived 2 days later…..
What I am trying to say, send it early and don't go by the recommended times, allow for delays. It's Christmas.
- Parcel Post: Friday 20 December**
- Express Post: Monday 23 December
These dates seem VERY optimistic. I would be sending at least 2 days earlier than this if you want piece of mind.
I have recently had parcels take five days with Parcel Post between major cities, so absolutely, three working days is completely unrealistic.
Oh no !!!
