R36S Multiplayer via Cable Connecting Two Devices or External Controller for Player 2

Just wondering if anyone has had success in setting up two R36S handheld consoles for multiplayer whether by attaching an extra controller via the USB-C OTG port or connecting two devices up via USB-C?
