These offers are generally the cheapest I find, I never see price spiking. Always worth running the same hotel through Agoda or hotels combined (sometimes Agoda has good prices this way). Results seem to vary, but I always wait for these 10/12% booking.com cashbacks and I find they work out cheapest 75%+ of the time

    • Can confirm no price spiking on the hotel I just booked in Japan. Agreed, best to use google to look for the cheapest site before booking.

No spiking, but I've discovered that (for Japan at least) googling the hotel and selecting dates via Google, then clicking through to Booking.com through its results page, gives a seemingly guaranteed 10% off every single time anyway (without needing to wait for cashback).

I was about to post the same thing. Instant discount through Google Maps. No need to wait 65 days for your cashback.

Hmm I just noticed this too. $2914 (via Google) vs $3202 (via Cashrewards). Works out $96 better via CR, but then there is the risk that it doesn't track and/or I have to cancel or amend for whatever reason (unlikely). Booking isn't until end of Jan, so won't be getting the cash back until early April either…

          • @Ryder08: In fairness, the cashback should still apply at the same rate you booked it as if you're just changing dates/etc.

          • @Ryder08: I’ve managed to do both via browser on my laptop. Not sure how it works but it does!

            1. Go to the booking page via google maps and get to the stage just before confirming the booking
            2. Go to booking.com via Cashrewards
            3. Refresh the first page at the checkout stage, and check out.

Always tracks for me doing this!

@Ghogger: Interesting, might be a bug but liable to have cashback rejected I'd worry.

TripAdvisor search function has worked out cheaper for me in the past couples of trips. YMMV. Always worth putting in the work trying a few methods.

Booked last night and TripAdvisor's link to Bookings.com was cheaper than going Bookings.com + cashback. May work out fractionally cheaper when upsized but I'll take the bird in the hand over potential cashback issues.

          • @cyssero: Thanks for the tip - saved me over $200!

    • Is it cheaper than using genius discount? I find it not much difference between that and the cashbacks I don't usually bother waiting

      • They are not mutually exclusive, you can book with the genius discount and also get cashback for it.

  • Cheers op

I’m still finding the deal I posted

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/863263

… to be cheaper than other ways to book accommodation that I am interested in. Exclusion list may not be accurate.

  • Just missed this as I booked yesterday without CR. 12% is probably the sweet spot but be aware of FX rates if paying by the hotel local currency. By the time they process it months later, the amount you get might be higher or lower.

  • Booking.disater if you need to cancel and request a refund from a property who refuses to refund. Lots of delays and excuses plus rules which they won't send by email. Should be investigated by ACCC. Great if no changes to bookings.

That's why you book rooms / properties with free cancellation, just in case something happens or you're booking way in advance. I've had no issues cancelling when I've booked with free cancellation (50+ stays).
