Which Dyson Is Best for Me?

Hi there,

Was just hoping to get some advice on a new handheld. My Viomi A9 very recently shat the bed, I believe it needs a new motor. I'll get around to that at some point but I'm in need of a new handstick anyway with the growing family. Don't even think I can hold out until Black Friday sales.

I currently have a Bissell Pet Symphony I use to steam carpets in the bedrooms/small hallway section. And a recently acquired Shark Steam and Scrub Mop to get the rest of the hard floors in the house. Now that I'm forced to upgrade, I was wondering what Dyson vac would better suit my needs/value for money?

I've been trying to wrap my head around most of the options but I think I've found some decent deals for my situation but I have some questions.. The main 2 units I'm looking at are the Outsize Complete ($900) and a V15s Detect Submarine Absolute. ($985).

The V15s apparently runs the same as the highly rated V15 but not everyone (on YT) is a fan of the submarine head. But they were taking into account it's $200+ (USD) price tag in the "s" package. Considering the price I found it for, I believe it may be a good deal as it's next to impossible to find a V15 for $700 - $800 if you take out the "value" of the mophead. This package however doesn't come with the fluffy optical head and they seem to be quite expensive separately too. I'm wondering if Dyson would ever come out with an update to make the mophead work with other models..

The other unit I was considering was the Outsize Complete with all it's extra bits. I read elsewhere it's based off the V11, which was also the model I was considering before prior research. And that was jumping from a V8 deal I saw recently.. πŸ˜…

Not willing to spend over a grand, I think paying $900 is silly enough but I need to invest in something that will last and has good customer service in case anything arises.. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Edit: I forgot to note, I jumped all the way to the models with the digital motorbar as I found detangling the roller in the Viomi A9 was a pain in the butt with my ever growing hair and with the cats around the house..

Get a v7 for around $300 with 2 yrs warranty.

    • Where do I find it that price? 🀯

Big W has specials from time to time .

First paragraph, "I'll get around to that at some point but I'm in need of a new handstick anyway with the growing family. Don't even think I can hold out until Black Friday sales. "

If I could wait out for a V7 deal, I could probably just wait out for BF sales.. but as mentioned, I can't..

          • @WasBargain: Sixth paragraph, "Any help is greatly appreciated!"

            • -2

@Baysew: Except, as I already noted, that doesn't help because if you bothered to read my OP and again in the comment above, I can't wait..

So how is that of ANY help to me?

              • @WasBargain: Well, you can't expect the average forum user to read a page of text. A more succinct post or including a tldr would cut down irrelevant responses.

Best to just to ask for clarification if needed and leave it at that once it is clear or it's not helpful.

                • -1

@ihfree: So people go onto forums and click on posts but skip OP and just read comments? That's very strange to say the least. πŸ˜…

I would assume if they're not bothering to read the post, why continue to read the comments? Just scroll on then..

                  • @WasBargain: Reply based on title rather than list, skim read, read the first or last paragraph, etc.

                    Welcome to the internet.

                    • -1

@ihfree: Nah, that just sounds lazy.

Just like being on a bargain site with strict but minimal posting guidelines, then people post in comments about code not working or deal hasn't started when instructions are clearly listed in description.. 🀣

You done a Phd on dyson and still asking us which one to buy? And created a new account just in case lol

    • -1

      PHD's don't come after a nights research..

Also, how is over 3000 comments a "new account"?

      • +1

They fell for the L post rating trap - which gets applied to first time posters. A member of many months/years can be an L plater if its the first time they post. An L next to a post doesnt necessarily mean a new account.

Although you would think after 10 years here they would be a little more aware of this.

        • I would have thought so. After 10 years I figured you'd click profile and check before posting irrelevant garbage.. πŸ˜…

I guess years don't gain you wisdom.

  • Have a break from Dyson, get a Miele Duoflex HX1

    • I'll look into this one today. How's the customer service like?

      • +1

Miele? Supreme! Five of my eight vacuum cleaners are Miele

        • Eight? 😟 One for every room? 😁

I'm not going to lie, it doesn't look promising to me but if they have superior customer service, would really tip me but I've heard great things from Dysons' customer service, even from the replies on this site recently from the Dyson deals.

@WasBargain: Just a weird hoarder/collector thing. I have two Triflex HX1, S2511 (garage vacuum), S4510 (fits in my kitchen cupboard), Boost CX1 (bagless), Kirby G4 (for handyman jobs), Kirby Avalir (for carpets), Lux Sora (out on loan).
Have a browse on Reddit: /r/VacuumCleaners: Purchase Advice, Repairs, and More

            • @sumyungguy: Ohh, the specific use cases makes sense, very cool! I assume they're all not really cheapos aswell?!

I wish I was diligent enough to need multi-vac's. I felt pretty grown up having all 3 devices at one point.. Now I'm down to the Shark Spin Mop and a (heavy) carpet steamer/vac so I'm in a bit of a pickle.

I could just vacuum the house with the Bissell but it's soo heavy and I'm recovering from a shoulder tear..

I actually do have a garage vac too but it's too small to use for the hard floor inside the house.. πŸ˜… Very handy though the Black+Decker Pivot Dustbuster.

Edit: Never thought to check reddit. Thank you!

@WasBargain: All really cheap, I only shop pre-owned. I got my second HX1 for $120 from Cashies. I have the two HX1 setup with different floor heads (parquet XL & illuminated electrobrush) ready for any cleaning job. I'll be on the lookout for a Duoflex as the light weight is appealing

                • @sumyungguy: Smart! I've found some random bargains from Cashies online recently too! I assume Dysons' don't get reduced much though as they're probably very easy to liquidate for them.

NGL, it seems quite heavy still at 3.1kg overall and I think it was like 2.6kg in hand. I think that's about the same weight as the Outsize (with its XL motorbar head I believe).

The submarine must be even heavier but I don't expect to need to lift it at all and just drag it everywhere. Lots of people weren't a fan of the function of the submarine but I could see it being useful in conjuction with my shark spin mop. Vac first with the V15s, then use the shark spin mop (especially on any harder spots) and then finish off any streaks or dirty water spots with the submarine..

                  My brain hurts.

                  • +1

@WasBargain: Cashies discount anything when they need cash flow. I like Dyson hairdryers and fan-heaters but have never liked their vacuums. Their barrels and uprights were plasticky with no edge bumpers; the battery models had the stupid trigger and poor battery longevity. Miele Triflex does have key benefits: stands upright with the weight distributed low, hot-swappable batteries. For wet mopping, I'd rather chuck a microfibre pad in the wash than stuff around hand-washing a Submarineβ„’ wet roller head

                    • @sumyungguy: I'm not going to lie, the DuoFlex HX1 you recommended is growing on me. I didn't even know Miele was German. I just hate those damn Miele oven commercials with the guy in the suit.. 🀣 I haven't ever really looked into Miele.

Any recommendation on other models for more power or features? $600 is a pretty good price point (pet model) but I'm still wondering how it compares to a similar priced Dyson. At $600, I think I could almost get a V11 so I might check comparison videos later on that.

Also, I hate throwing any cleaning pads in the wash as I don't really know how washing machines work and don't trust the machine to be fully clean for the next load of clothes.. πŸ˜… I might try it next time thought and just run it empty again afterwards if I'm really worried. What setting do you use for cleaning the pads in the machine? And would putting those Kmart cleaning balls in with it help? 😁

                      • @WasBargain: I have wooden floors, vacuum then Vileda spray mop; the microfibre pad goes into the next washing load, I'm not fussed about the cycle

                        • @sumyungguy: That's what I used to do. I still have my half-trusty Kmart version of that Vileda. The fluffy size isn't that great for drying from my experience though. That's why I'm a little hesitant on the submarine head because I'm not sure how damp it'd leave the floors. There was some Tineco video that popped up last night that looked wicked solid but googling showed the model was like 1.5k so disregarded it pretty quickly.. πŸ˜…

Wait, so you throw the pads in with your clothes? I'm guessing you don't let you floors get too dirty yeah? πŸ˜…

@WasBargain: Laundry for me is dirty stuff in, clean stuff out; not what you'd call fastidious

  • They all suck.

    • In fairness, the Outsize has been among the best models from my knowledge for the last couple years now but I'm guessing it's starting to get dated..

  • Honestly, my long hair which has tripped up my Bosch washing machine multiple times (damn e18 drain error!!), has NEVER tangled the motorhead on my v8. It simply gets sucked up as expected.

    • Woah, so you've never had to crack out the scissors to free some? I needed to get out a screwdriver and/or scissors every single time I vacuumed the house with the Xiaomi/Viomi A9..

      • +1

I certainly have for the v58 (53? Model before the v6) but yeah never have for the v8. I think the roller is bigger so it just didnt catch as much hair as my old one.
