Smart Sony TV Failed to Power up - Please Recommend a Repairer in Melbourne

The Sony TV is 6 years old.

All of a sudden, it just couldn't be powered up since yesterday. Tried all the troubleshooting steps on Sony Support site but nothing helped, and it finally suggested a hardware fault.

Does anyone know a good and reliable TV repairer in Melbourne? Also, how much can I expect for such a repair work (with possible HW replacement)?

Thanks for any suggestion and recommendation.

Sounds like a capacitor issue. If you are ½ handy pull the back off the TV and look for any bulging capacitors. If you are ¾ handy then replace any bulging capacitors with the same specs and desolder/solder.

I've rescued a few kerbside dumped TVs this way for $10 and 30 minutes of my time. It's easier than it sounds.

    • I picked up a 65" kogan tv last week from curbside pickup. wouldn't power on when plugged in. - wait.. what's that? a physical power on/off button on the bottom edge of the TV!! flicked that. TV turned on and works.

        Now I'm confused. Is it…

        • Kerbside
        • Curbside
        • Curveside (IYKYK)
        • Vergeside

        • Cerbside, dammit.

        • Kerbside in Australia.

          Curbside in America.

        • Nature Strip.

i think you missed the real reason they wanted to get rid of it …

Prbs dumped cos it was kogan…

    • Unfortunately I am not handy at all. So I need to look for a repair shop to replace the faulty capacitor.

I Googled and found an electrician who does electronic repair work. He opened up the 75" TV, pointed out a faulty diode (not a capacitor!), tested it, and confirmed it was the issue. He replaced the diode in about 10 minutes, and the TV powered up successfully after that. He charged $100 for the repair, and it was worth every penny.

      • Awesome outcome. TVs are very simple to diagnose/repair compared to mobile phones etc.

      • That's fantastic. What a great outcome!

      • G'day. I have the exact same issue and live in Melbourne. Any chance you still have his details? Thanks

I was told @pegaxs has to print this sign as Uncle Ian's dot matrix printer is also broken.
