Australia's Department of Defense will rip out cameras made by Chinese manufacturers Hikvision and Dahua while the government considers whether to ban their use across all federal agencies.2023

Why? Seems like its just a headline grabber to push an agenda.
Any first year networking student could configure an isolated VLAN for "suspect" devices.

      • "I am saying that our government believes Hikvision and Dahua are not safe

    • these are many times safer than all the other cloud enabled cameras selling out there, arlo, eufy, tapo etc. Just look at the mess ecovacs is in with their vacuums that has the onboard cameras which captures footage and audio without your consent and is used to "train' their AI. Even removing your account will not remove those images and audio they have captured.

at least this camera you can block it from the internet and it will still work. With no internet access how is the chinese government going to remotely access it?

just because the government said to do something does not mean they have your best interests in mind.

if they really want to protect all the citizens, mandatory basic internet security education for the adults will be a good start.

instead they choose to ban things and introduce age limits on accessing social media..ffs

  • Anything for security camera I would recommend Andy from EmpireTech. I am sure he can beat anyone else's price.

He is well regarded at ipcamtalk.com

  • For the price, nothing on the market can bit this for quality and function if it is NOT grey import as indicated on the listing.
