One Pass Weekend - Seller Refusing to Provide a Tax Invoice

Just wondering if anyone who bought through Bunnings Marketplace during One Pass Weekend has had an issue with the seller refusing to provide a tax invoice?

I bought the $35 Ryobi battery but am unable to register with Ryobi because the seller isn't providing me with a tax invoice.

When I initially enquired they got back to me quite some time later and said I had received it 2 days previously (which I hadn't, and yes I checked the spam folder,) and to get back to them if I had any further problems, and they're simply refusing to respond.

Bunnings themselves cannot help me. I was under the impression they had sole distribution rights in Australia, but they tell me it's a 3rd party seller. My next option is to contact Ryobi and see if they'll accept the order confirmation as proof of purchase, I guess, instead of a tax invoice.

I'm not after advice, simply wondering whether others had had a similar experience.

I bought the $35 Ryobi battery

They aren't required to provide a tax invoice for $35… Only for $75 and over.

Also, they must be registered for GST to be able to provide a tax invoice, otherwise, it is just a receipt.

Wrong. Over $75 they're required to provide one at the time of sale. Under $75 the customer can request a receipt and the business MUST provide it within 7 days.

        No they don't.

When to provide a tax invoice
If a customer asks for a tax invoice, you must provide one within 28 days, unless it is for a sale of $82.50 (including GST) or less.

There's also nothing much you can do if they don't provide one > $75 (+GST) either…
ACCC does nothing. ATO does nothing. Omubudsman has no power to do anything…

But OP did ask for one…

@AustriaBargain: and according to the ATO, they are not required to provide one as the item is worth less than $82.50 (including GST)

            keyword is 'unless'

    • Receipts are for proof of purchase, tax invoice is for tax purposes.

From memory only ever got receipts in the old days before gst. Unless it was before you had paid, then you would get an invoice for the amount to pay.

If a retailer does not provide a receipt go to consumer protection, it is illegal not to provide a receipt.

I would imagine business would need tax invoices to claim the GST refund from the ATO or whatever ?

I only ever bother with receipts, unless it is an important expensive item. Receipts also must include specific information, so a point of sale receipt may not always have that.

        No it’s not

  • I did. Mine was delivered on the Monday (apparently fulfilled by Bunnings Mentone), but couldn't see any invoice on my account or email, so like you I contacted them and requested an invoice. But that night, my tax invoice came through via email. I then received a reply 3 days later saying that it had been emailed to me.

    • Similar situation for me. The proper tax invoice pdf with Bunnings header didn't come through until I sent an online enquiry.

    bunnings marketplace

    it's a 3rd party seller.

Well it’s probably true, do you still have the link for the listing? $35 for a Ryobi battery sounds too cheap. I’d want to check it’s been an authentic one or just ‘Ryobi compatible’

    • The one pass weekend is over so the link is gone. But it's authentic, and was able to register my tool on the Ryobi website. And whilst it was marketplace, it seems like Bunnings setup themself up as a marketplace seller for that particular sale.

        • They did provide an invoice, they were just slow sending it. If I had waited a day I wouldn’t have needed to contact support

  • Are you sure it was a 3rd party seller?

I ask because I was looking at some of the deals and noticed that even though they were listed as third party on the market place, the seller was Bunnings. I'm guessing it was done this way so that they could make it a one pass exclusive.

  • Are you sure it was a 3rd party seller?

I'm just going by what I was told by a Bunnings staff member when I tried there for a copy of the receipt.

Their system wouldn't allow them yo print it out.

  • Did you buy online? If so, you can go into your account, click on orders, click view order and then open the tax invoice. It will open up a new window as a pdf then either print or save it.

  • Have had endless problems with Bunnings in the last few months, hope you resolve soon. Always excuses from them, never able to resolve the issues, whether it be tax invoices or receipts, gift cards or online orders. No proper facility for a person to complain and/or seek assistance. Just simply poor. Pity they have such a large market share of the hardware business, they need more competition.

  • Anybody not providing a receipt doesn’t want they tax office to know about income.. even when you buy off market place you ask for a receipt and the seller never fails to provide one. It’s evidence of ownership

    Dob them in

I’m sick of paying tax for thieves that want from society but don’t contribute
