Star Alliance Lounge Access

Hi all, we will be travelling fr Melb to Korea (South 😜) via Singapore with Singapore Airlines. Midnight flight with 3 hours lay over in Singapore. Planning to go early and use our HSBC Gold Star Alliance benefit for lounge access.

Any recommendations of the nicer lounges both in Melbourne and Singapore? Heard the NZ Air lounge is pretty nice and accessible with Star Alliance Gold member. Any other recommendations?

Also, the Star Alliance benefit is for 2 ppl but we're 4 including kids (14 n 11). What s our chance to have all of us allowed inside? Hope they re pretty nice :)

Thanks a lot in advance

    Guests

First Class and Star Alliance Gold customers travelling on a Star Alliance or Connecting Partner Flight and Eligible Paid Lounge Membership customers are each entitled to bring one guest into the lounge. The guest must enter the lounge together with the eligible customer and present a boarding pass for the same Star Alliance member airline operated flight or Connecting Partner flight as the eligible customer, departing from the respective local airport. For contract lounges, the guest must be travelling on the same Star Alliance flight as the customer.

Any accompanying person over the age of two is considered a guest. Children under the age of two may accompany the customer to the lounge and are not considered as guests.

The guest entitlement may not be exceeded by the customer entering a lounge on multiple occasions, each time accompanied by a different guest.

Each eligible customer might bring only one guest to the lounge, even if said customer is entitled to bring a guest by multiple grounds (e.g. being a First Class customer with Star Alliance Gold status).

  • not sure about melbourne but isn't the only option in Changi the KF gold lounge? it's not as nice as the SilverKris but decent enough

  • You won't be able to bring in everyone (assuming you have one Gold card in total and not one per adult). They're pretty strict, but who knows, you might get lucky.

Otherwise, plan to rotate who you bring into different lounges. You could go into the Melbourne lounge with one kid and then swap so your partner can go in with the other kid in Singapore (assuming they let you do that).

In Melbourne, your option is Singapore SilverKris or Air NZ and I'd agree that Air NZ is nicer (if it's open before the SQ flight). In Singapore, your only option is the KrisFlyer Gold Lounge.

  • I have a question, how do I prove my gold status. The start alliance app doesn't do it, the krisflyer app only shows krisflyer status.

    • In my case my boarding pass stated "Star Alliance/aeroplan gold" at the top and something about an 'invitation to the lounge' on the bottom. I didn't need to show my Star Alliance card at all, presumably because it's linked to my ticket? They scanned my boarding pass at the desk and waved me through.
