Moved to Forum: Original Link
Mod: Currently no way to purchase or pre-order the item, this is for a chance to buy something (similar to a competition / lucky draw)

Mods, please move this to appropriate place if it doesn’t suit here.

(This post is more of PSA to Nintendo fans like myself than a ‘deal’.)

    1) $160 for an alarm clock isn’t a bargain, regardless of what sounds it makes.
    2) This is RRP.
    3) You admit it isn’t a deal. If Nintendo fans want PSA of Nintendo products, then there’s countless more appropriate websites for those people to get this kind of news.

Even though I think this is a stupid product.

I am not opposed to it being on Ozbargain

The over policing of what gets posted here sucks. It's a great way to kill a website and turn it into a graveyard.

The over policing of what gets posted here sucks

Umm there's basically no moderation anymore for what is a deal or not.

In the early days of Ozbargain the mods use to do a good job of getting rid of all the "no deal listed" posts.

Now it's almost always left up to the community to vote down non-deals. Unfortunately the site's rules also actively discourages people voting down deals.

Guessing this was only moved because it's a lottery.

great way to kill a website and turn it into a graveyard.

Also having the site full of bullshit posts is away to turn the site into a mess that people don't bother trawling through.

there's basically no moderation anymore for what is a deal or not.

Every excuse I get is “it’s up to the community to vote on the deals” but the problem is it’s only about the same group of 10 of so people who regularly downvote shit deals and even when you do, it attracts the ire of the self-appointed vigilante voting police that come in and berate people for negging deals like we have no right… “if tHe dEaL iSnT fOr yOuSe, jUsT LeAvE!!1!1!” and these vigilanties do a disservice by scaring off people who would have otherwise downvoted, but they just don’t like confrontation or that they HAVE to leave a comment and a reason…

          • -1

            @pegaxs: Yep. It's a joke.

            1) You have to comment to make a neg vote, but you don't to plus vote.
            2) If a comment gets down voted (even if it's not related to your reason for negging) the neg gets revoked. Plusing voters don't get their votes revoked if their comments get voted down.
            3) If you get too many neg votes revoked in a time window, you get banned from negging other deals for a while.

The whole system is skewed to discourage people voting deals down and thus the place is really unmoderated for what is actually a deal (by the community or the actual moderators). Hence all the spammy posts over the last few years.

@PainToad: Both issues 1 and 2 I have tried repeatedly to have addressed. (Example here)

I particularly hate (2) because removing negs and not upvotes can skew the voting. Either BOTH have the same removal process or NEITHER can be removed by ANY voting process.

Potentially you could have a vote count of 100 negs and 70 upvotes because there is some sort of serious issue with the post, and then you theoretically could have all 100 neg votes removed if users just went around negging comments by downvoters, but the positive votes get unchanged turning it into a +70 post deal.

As for (1), there are the people who would neg, but wont want to leave a comment because of various reasons, either CBF, dont want the drama or none the least is dealing with the patrolling Neg Police, so again, the positive to negative is skewed in favour of positive voting.

If it is being left up to the community to vote these deals, then the voting must be made fairer to both parties. I'm tired of being only one of a handful of people that neg shit posts/supplier/reps/companies. It should be up to everyone and the system should be made fairer to that more people dont feel the pressure to have to put their name to a neg comment or to suffer the wrath of the "Neg Police".

Maybe neg voting could be like comment negs, where you can neg without comment for say 5 to 10 (depends on how long you have been a member) and then any neg on a deal after than requires user comment to continue.

And for removals, it should be up to the system to remove negs, but up to the "report invalid vote" button to have an invalid vote removed.

@pegaxs: Could I interest you in a $500 PlayStation disc drive that's just come into stock?

            • @brendanm: Quick, post it as a deal. It gets a free pass to the front page because its a PlayStation accessory and more than RRP.

          Yeah, good.

The sites doing just fine as it is.

I don't want it to turn into an overmoderated graveyard.

    Cool little display piece

That is an outrageous price lol

    • It was a cheap price but you have to add on the Nintendo tax.
I mean if idiots pay it, why not charge it.
Although its outrageous, you can't fault the business model.

  • lol @ a chance to buy an overpriced Nintendo clock… not the clock, but a “chance” to put a pre-order in… (fropanity) me, Nintendo are off their meds.

Can’t wait for these to turn up on fleaBay, scumtree and Fartbook Sharketplace for $1,500

    • this type of pay/preorder now and have a chance of getting things was all thanks to the mechanical keyboard community where at one point a lot of the latest parts were only available through this method of group buys which just means agree to pay high price in advance to have specific things made in super small MOQ (minimum order quantity). the price actually went up slightly after the product had actually been made (like a late person/supporter tax) but I say high price in advance because it really still was a high price even if you are early for a few pieces of plastic.

if not enough people want it and MOQ is not met, the entire thing is cancelled and people (are supposed to) get their money back. towards the end of covid a lot of keyboard shops that popped up during that period took advantage of the massive upfront money and basically screwed up their business and some of them just closed up without refunding anyone. basically they took the easiest way and made it up to the customers to charge back if they could, and any who couldn't well was just free profit.

anyway I have seen so many big companies copying/doing this preorder model mostly gaming keyboard mouse type brands but anyway one of them is Logitech. it's basically the same thing pay full price over RRP now, for a chance to get it first a few months later. it's probably viewed less as less risky though since it's a big company doing it instead of a bunch of users you never heard of on discord and a small manufacterer in china.

I'm sure these will be scalpt due to Nintendo's Artificial Scarcity.

  • this guy in America already has it?? through switch online.
    https://youtu.be/jQl1GeY7Mpg

seems like you have to move or jump up and down to make it stop. 😂

    delayed release for Aus??

  • I see this as "how many of these things would actually sell? Should we bother?"

    • Should we bother?

watch the video I linked above to see what it’s like. unless you are a Nintendo super fan or collector it’s not worth $160.

if it wasn’t Limited super rare preorder! it would be $29 in stores and $10 on sale.

      • I meant it as Nintendo Australia asking us if they should bother selling them in Australia.

        • oh ok I get you now. 😅 or maybe this is their way to make it even more exclusive for Aus customers. (more premium rare desirable)

tbh I think I’m seeing a lot of these rushed random expensive products from Japanese brands recently. I think Japan economy is collapsing. 😮

another one is the Limited Exclusive Deluxe edition for the new Sonic x Shadow game. they want $249USD+ for it.

I looked it up btw there are other Deluxe packages but they don’t include everything the limited $249 one does. it can only be purchased from one website.

here but all sold out now (wasn’t when I checked) probably mostly gone to resellers.

Pre-order period seems to have been strict - between 19th August and 06 October. (can be seen in the poster advert in there.)

@YoursTruly: I have not heard good things about limited run games bonuses. They are US based.
I do like that Nintendo Australia are selling items from Super Nintendo World, maybe they will bring over some Nintendo Museum items.

            • @YoursTruly: ok thanks. did not know that.

limiting the time must make it even more exclusive. 😃
