*Mail.com* in China?

Hi
Been trying to work out what email is best for China, knowing Gmail wont work.
Yahoo is gone, QQ and 163 wont let me register with Australian phone.
Someone said Mail.com, have registered successfully, looks simple enough, but it doesnt seem popular?
TrustPilot seems to have good reviews but from USA….

Hotmail is now Microsoft Outlook? Wonder whether this will be better?

Hope someone can shed some light. Thank you!

    Use a VPN.

  • I think microsoft outlook is fine in CN last I checked which was a year ago, and it does have a somewhat more professional, less doggy looking email suffix.

but yea host a VPS in HK/JP/US and setup VPN is a better way to go.

CN - AU link usually is quite bad however, don't bother setup AU VPS.

    • Did you mean VPN?

Can I just use Microsoft Outlook?

      • First Sentence is referring to using MS Outlook in China.

second/3rd sentence referring to setting up your own Virtual Private Server (VPS), as a VPN Server, to connect to the outside world.

You can also buy an HongKong/American eSIM that have plenty of roaming data to use in China, and use it. It won't gete blocked by GFW.

  • If you're roaming your phone, you have access to all the banned stuff.

Ditto if you're staying at an international hotel chain and using their guest wifi.

I just get my Gmail to forward everything to my Outlook when I'm in China. Outlook accounts can be added to the Gmail app so no additional app downloads needed.

    • Sorry mind to explain a bit further?
Did you mean you only have Gmail App? Thought it's not allowed there…

      • Yes, I add my Outlook account to the Gmail app. The Gmail app will only talk to Outlook servers to send/receive email on that account, so it works fine.

  • I don’t recall having any issues with Mail when I was in China.
I use it as my secondary and AOL as my main and they both worked fine although I had a VPN on at all times

  • iCloud and GMX both work.

If you plan to use VPN make sure it’s fully setup before you arrive. I got back few days ago having spent 2 weeks there, didn’t check that NordVPN needed a custom certificate to get it working in China :(

TunnelBear, Speedify and even accessing my routers built in VPN tunnel didn’t work.

    • I'm trying not to use VPN.
      Thanks for the headup.
