  • Interesting Melbourne is still participating as they don't seem to be listed as actually holding VAEFNO this year: https://www.americanexpress.com/en-au/credit-cards/membershi…

    • +5

The cashback seems to be worse and worse each year.

  • Can’t see the retailers list as yet.

  • Looks to be targeted? Can’t see anything on my account

    • Because it's not the 16th yet …

  • Received the offer on the Primary cards.

  • +3

Can we use this to buy $300 coles & myer gift card in myer and get $50 back in one transaction?

    • -1

      no

      • +3

Thought it worked in previous year(s) ?

        • Can try but not guaranteed

          • +2

@kerfuffle: Better to do 5x $60 giftcards to avoid the risk.

        • Happy for you to try and report back.

    • Please try and report back. I'm waiting on this.

    • +15

Yes, I can confirm that this works.

I bought 1 x $300 Coles Myer gift card at Myer Sydney City store on Friday and got 1 x $50 credit to my AMEX account.

      I think it's great because:

      1. It saves you and the staff time not having to do multiple transactions
      2. It means you leave 5 Coles Myer gift cards on the shelf for others who want to buy gift cards as well - everyone wins!
      3. Less plastic waste for the environment :)
      • -1

I usually BYO for myer, very spotty nowadays.

        • How exactly does that work…

        • Make sure it has the small barcode on the cardboard holder.

      • That's quick. I bought 5 separate gift cards on Thursday but haven't git any tracking or credit in my account yet.

        • What card do you have out of curiosity?

          • +1

            @kerfuffle: Platinum

            • @SR9: Got my 5 credit back today.

      • Hi, may i ask how long does it take to get the cash back

        • Took 3 business days

    • T&C said Excludes purchases of gift cards from Myer? So it still works buying coles giftcard? Only at George Street Myer?

      • +2

AMEX does not know what you purchase if you buy the GCs in-store. If you order them online, they do, as another company appears as the seller. However, you can buy David Jones GCs online. See the comment from kerfuffle below regarding which stores you can buy from.

  • Can I use one card in same store multiple times?

    • +1

      Yes

    • would love to know too.

  • any one got this on their supplementary cards?

    • -2

I got it on 2 cards.

      • +1

On your supp cards? If so, which ones?

  • -2

Myer and many other stores are listed only under the "online" category.

    Can anybody confirm if:

    1. This works at the physical Myer store as well as online (and every other physical store listed only under the "online" category)?

    2. At the physical Myer store, the purchase of gift cards should qualify (since there is no way for Amex to know what you are buying)?

    • -2

Did you not look at the Sydney or Melbourne categories before asking the first question?

      • -2

        It's not listed there

        • -1

          You didn't look properly.

        • I looked again. It's hiding under the fashion category.

      • -2

Of course, I did. Didn't see it. But found it upon looking again. If you knew they were there, you could've just pointed it out to be helpful.

  • +2

Beauty! 5 x $60 DJ GCs coming up for the mrs to spend

    • reckon buying a $300 DJ gift card in one transaction would get $50 back like last year? really cannot buy nothing at DJ with $60 per gift card

      • +3

Multiple GCs can be combined to buy a single item

    • Did it trigger a fraud alert? Some people in the past have said multiple successful transactions with similar amounts can trigger a fraud block.

      • +1

My third one did online, but I was sending it to someone else. First two were purchased using two different Amexes, one which was also used to buy the third one. No worries; will just buy in store.

      • +1

Trick is to spread out your purchases. Two max per 24 hour period should see you fly under the radar.

        • +1

Yeah, I agree with this. I bought another DJs eGift Card online with my Amex (not the one that tripped up the fraud detection and sent to myself) and the order was successful.

          • @kerfuffle: Was this the one where you made the single transaction and got $50 back below?

Sounds like I don't need to bother splitting into $60 instalments then.

            • @clx: No because I didn't spend $300 in one go

      • Confirmed 5x in-person transactions on the same card at the same time didn't trigger a fraud alert on the card

        • +1

The fraud alert comes from buying multiple gift cards online, not in store, and is actioned by DJs, not Amex

  • +1

Offer Terms says "Additional Cards are not eligible for this offer", so would be interested to know if anyone got it on their supp card.

  • Anyone tried buying stuff online that isn’t listed in the category list? Ie kids clothing? The Amex chat person seems to think it’s only what’s listed under categories which I thought was just there to give you an idea what the shop sells…

    • +2

Amex person is dumb. It's from the shop listed. You could buy $60 of tea from the David Jones Foodhall and get $10 credit

  • Has anyone gotten the confirmation email - how long does it take? It used to be basically instant but maybe it takes longer now.

    • I don't think they're sending e-mails this year. I bought from DJs x2 and Aesop so far and neither triggered an e-mail

      • Thanks - will just wait it out then

  • has anyone tried buying a $300 gift card & get $50 credit back?

    • Try it out and let us know.

  • Just bought two air purifier filters from DJ. No email notification yet but hopefully it'll work. Used the same card.

My supp card didn't have the offer.

    • How much did you spend?

      • $75 each

  • If buying from same store, do you need to make 5 separate transactions to get $10 each time, or can you spend $300 or more in a single transactions at one store and get $50.

    • +1

Usually when it says in one or more transactions they bundle up and you'll get one large credit, in this case $50 for spending $300.

      • Thanks. Considering whether to use it on the Dyson hairdryer on special at DJ.

      • We're still waiting for you to tell us which supp cards of yours allegedly got the offer.

  • +5

Can confirm credits are rolling in despite no qualifying e-mails.

    • Did you split transactions or do a single spend?

    • Did you spend 300 and get 50 back in a single transaction?

      • keen to know as well

      • -4

        No.

      • +1

        you need to split it

  • Are Myer and DJ’s physical stores from other cities (other than Syd & Mel) eligible? Or other cities have to shop online only?

    • +2

As it has been for the past however many years this offer has been running, Sydney city and Melbourne city only for physical stores.

  • +7

I've just spent $123 at Adidas online… Will see if I get $10 or $20 back.

    • +3

      let us know!

      • Nothing so far! So unimpressed!

      • I don't think it worked… On the statement it said Adidas mulgrave. I ended up getting giftcards at Myer Melbourne

        • Mulgrave is probably their head office. Same thing when I bought at Aesop Sydney (Westfield Sydney) and it came up as Aesop Collingwood. Currently in dispute with Amex at the moment over it

          • @kerfuffle: Precisely why I went to myer, and didn't want to have an argument with them. Read your comment below.

        • I bought from Myer online and Mecca also and nothing come through yet. Myer gone through Melbourne while Mecca Richmond. Hopefully it just a lag as noticed sometimes cashback for other promotions could take a while to come through.

  • My transactions from DJ online still haven't tracked a cashback. Perhaps it'll happen at the end. Purchased on 17th and both transactions have settled

    • I only had one credited so far out of the two I bought online on the 17th (both eGift Cards)

  • Travelled to the cbd today just to take advantage of the offer.
Ended up buying coles/myer gift cards and then the wife ended up spending some.
Transactions stuck in pending status, so will need to wait a few days to see the credits roll in.

  • +17

Confirming that $20 cashback when buying DJ $120 gift card online in one transaction. Just saw $20 in my amex account.

  • Mine just tracked for two $75 purchases at DJ. Same card

  • +2

Kmart at 236 Bourke st is on the fashion list for Melbourne, lots of stuff to buy there, a good alternative to Myer. Also Rebel sport on the lifestyle list, handy for a new tent and hiking boots, perhaps an air freshener for the car.

    • +1

Should buy a Coles Myer GC from Myer or Kmart, gives you access to spend at Kmart, Myer, Officeworks, Coles etc rather then directly spending at the Kmart store

      • There's other vouchers available that may be of interest.

  • Does anyone have an Elevate Amex? That one isn't getting credits but my Velocity Escape one is, even though I saved the offer and bought at the same shops as the Velocity Escape one …

    • I used my explorer card a day after my lowrate card, got credit on the explorer but still waiting on the lowrate.

  • +1

FWIW, I bought $1800 of Coles Myer gift cards split payments into 6 eligible Amex cards with the offer saved. The transaction obviously happened within seconds of each other. No "offer triggered" emails from any of them. So far, only 3 cards have received the cashback. The other 3 - not yet. The time difference is… unfathomable…

    • Did you spend $300 in single transaction or 5 transactions per card? If single transaction, have you received $50 or $10 cashback?

      • +4

Single $300 spend. Single $50 back.
