It is still overpriced for a 12yr old whisky, it is just demand and supply keeping it this price. It was a wonderful drop to drink when I was buying it for under $100 10 years ago. There is a lot better whisky available at the $300 mark

I used to get it for $60 as a cheap souvenir for the in law

    • I bought a friend a bottle of the Hibiki 21 Fuji Limited edition for $600~ or so from Narita duty free 10 years ago, wait till you see what that one goes for now.

      • they're back down to 75000 yen now!

$300 whiskey… so at this point is it just a flex?

I'm guessing that was a pricematch of thewhiskylist. New user has a 10% discount, so could be potentially cheaper there

Bit cheaper at costco if you have one near you. $289.

  • Suntory share holders laughing all the way to the bank.

  • Maybe if $240..

In Japan at the moment - I can buy this for less than $70 a bottle.

      Proof?

    • that isnt the 12 yo version for sure, but yeh we also brought like 5 bottles back (Nikka Yoichi Single Malt is around ~50 a bottle in Osaka)

    • No you can't. You can get the non aged for that price. I just bought it at the Yamazaki distillery.

    • Edit: after double checking, the website I was looking at was a lottery. My apologies - https://store.shopping.yahoo.co.jp/first19782012/4001223.htm…

Remember buying these for $90 for Dans a few years ago. Japanese whisky is just atrocious value these days.

    • Yep gone are the days of great priced Japanese whisky.

  • How much do they sell these in Japan?

    • It's VERY hard - ie near impossible to find them in Japan. Anything with Age is hard to find. Couldn't even buy it from the distillery.

    • Popular Suntory stuff is basically whatever local prices are here. The Ao is a newer release and widely available for 50-60 AUD, but the existing stuff isn't worth looking into. Same goes for most of Nikka and to a lesser extent, Mars. You'll find more lesser known brands for reasonable prices.

  • I ended up buying the 18 when I was in Japan earlier this year. I couldn't help it - I really like the taste, and that taste was back in 2014 in London at a gentlemans bar. I remember everything…

I still have the photo of the Yamazaki 18 (Lidcombe) at Costco with the price tag of $750 back in 2017.. bloody hell

Gentleman's bar - sure you remembered everything ;)
