Given the included accessories this is a fantastic deal. Albeit the unit is quite large.

    • i use the 1040 and love the large screen personally, easy to fit all the widgets i want onto a single screen

And quite old, isn't the 1040 and 1050 newer?
Ok if people are starting from scratch though.

      • That’s a good point actually. I thought this was the 1040 so this is old stock really.

        • Yeah I got the 840 with smaller screen and it's good. Have to compare them but worthwhile upgrades, anything would do the job though.

      • Whilst it’s not the latest, for 99% of users it’s more than suitable.
I have just finished riding tonight with Edge 1000 and whilst I would like to update (coz I like toys), it’s really not worth it…
Even from 1000 to 1050 for someone who rides over 10,000km per year it’s not justified.
When the 1060 solar comes out with beaut screen and long battery life perhaps…

So if this is in your budget, people shouldn’t be deterred… the later ones are very expensive.

        • Everyone is correct and can justify it however they want. The cheapest cateye or bryton 330 are excellent and you can beat fatties with the latest carbon disc bike and head units

Just saying, it's an alright bundle but people should do their research as it's pretty old and us stock. I'd prefer a smaller screen and better for example, battery matters.

Would overseas model have Australia map? Is it just a matter of downloading the map data?

    • +1

I don't know for sure on this one, but I do recall other models in the past not having AU maps by default, however could be added for free via some open-source maps.

Cracking price. I have this model, bought last year from Amazon. Yes it's an overseas model however Garmin have allowed all worldwide maps to be downloaded. Simply connect to desktop software to download. I did this for the Aussie maps; also downloaded the overseas maps but haven't taken the unit overseas… yet.

I realised it didn't have the Australian maps when my mapping showed my trail but not any street detail/names etc 🤦

As above, great price given the bundled accessories (if you need them).

Maybe worth highlighting that this model (1030) is now 2 generations behind (replaced by 1040 & 1050) but will still do all the basic stuff perfectly well.

  • Looks like deal is over.

  • Thanks, got one yesterday to replace my edge 500
