Best Value OPEN EAR Earbuds

Hello all. I’m looking for the best VALUE open ear earbuds for the money. With JB Hi-Fi giving decent perk discounts and Amazon Prime, it feels like now is a decent time to buy.

I’m finding it hard to work out because there are so many brands and the review checking websites seem to be down, which isn’t helping matters.

I don’t just wish to buy the cheapest model and be stuck with a cheap hunk of metal and plastic, happy to spend more for a better model.

NOTE: I'm looking for ones that sit on top of your ear, not the ones that go inside your ear, as I find those one's uncomfortable. I added this note because I wasn't clear enough to begin with, apologies for that.

live flex are $99 on amazon right now

I believe some of the nothing earbuds are open as well

    • Wave Flex were $45 last night/this morning. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/870088

specs are good 8 hours battery per charge. probably the smarter option compared to Moondrop Block that I want.

      • I need a replacement pair unfortunately the beige colour is a bit … average

        • you can think of it as average. or gentle/subtle but I guess it depends on your skin colour.

Sony WF-C500 Compact Truly Wireless headphones Black https://amzn.asia/d/ag9nVY7

    $79 black
    $72 white

Bang for buck. I also have the WF-1000XM4 which is 4 times more expensive but not 4 times better

    Can't complain with the WF-C500

    Edit
Even cheaper for box damaged on eBay. $58.65 delivered!

    • Thanks for trying to help, but the type I'm after is Open Ear (i.e. they don't do into your ear, they sit on top of it). I find in ear earbuds uncomfortable after a while.

Thanks for detailed reply though, I appreciate the intent.

      • You're after headphones. Not ear buds?

  • Try Jlab Go Air Sports. They go in your ear, but they arent foam tipped / compression fit.

  • I was looking into this a while ago and was close to pulling the pin on a pair of TOZO O2, which are always around $80 on amazon. They seemed to be quite well reviewed and decent value. They have a couple other options in the same brand too.

But then I got distracted by the design of the Bose Ultra Opens, and bought a clone off aliexpress for $25. They are too quiet, don't sound as good, and will probably die in a few months. But they aren't terrible either (in a quiet room), and seem to be physically identical. I'd consider them an inexpensive preview of the fit of the real Bose Ultra (expensive) Opens.

I'd probably still go for the Tozos for the price though

    • The Bose Ultra Opens look good, but probably just over my price range, depending on how good it is. I did see the TOZO O2 and they were among the favourites that I'd seen.

I’m not 100% sure but I think you are looking for semi open. like original AirPods style. might help your search.

personally waiting for Moondrop Block to be fulfilled by Amazon.

In case you're still looking (or someone else is) I believe there are a few pairs that have come out (or become more prominent) since you first posted. The Nothing ear (open) seems to be a great sounding pair. It's not cheap, but it's not Bose prices either. It tends to be reviewed consistently as one of the best-sounding open earphones and good all round. The soundcore aerofit 2 is a bit more mixed on the reviews but generally seems not too bad. It's not quite as readily available though. I'll be trying out the Tozo O2s though, as I have more earphones/headphones than I need. Note that Tozo also make a clip on set, the Tozo OpenEarRing, which is similar to the Bose in style but I haven't found much reliable information about them. Similarly, soundcore has the c40i, which is also a little hard to get in Australia, but it is also a clip-on. The c40i is meant to fix some of the worst problems of the Soundcore c30i. Some reviews of open earphones that I liked are by the sound guys and picky audio.

    • Thanks for the reply. I have already bought mine. I ended up getting these ones from Amazon. I already have Bose QuietComfort 45 headphones as my main ones, but I just needed something portable occasionally and decided these were fine. They do the job for me.
