If anyone is doing the Core to Ultimate conversion, be advised that the ratio is now 2:1 due to the recent price hike. If converting to Game Pass Standard, the new in-between tier, it will be 3:2. Also requires one time period of the wanted subscription tier to convert (e.g. one month of Standard for full conversion to Standard)

Part of Prime Big Deals - seems to be the cheapest way of getting Game Pass without the geo-pricing hassle.

Per month calculations:
Core - $5.66 [67.96/12]
Standard - $9.32 [(67.96 + 15.95)/9] (15.95 comes from 1 month of Standard)
Ultimate - $10.61 [(67.96 + 1)/6.5] (1 comes from 14 days of Ultimate)

  • Any idea which gamepass is equivalent to PC gamepass?
My subscription just ran out, wondering if this would be good to convert from

    • You'll need to get ultimate - don't think you can convert core to PC directly, and core and standard only work on console.

  • +12

Everytime I gravitate to wanting to resub to Gamepass, they rename them or add new tiers. It is so confusing.

Just found out that Core is the new name for the old Xbox Gold / Live that was retired in Sept 2023.

  • There are other ways out there buying from different regions etc but at $10 a month or so to extend my GPU I will take it. Cheers op.

    • +1

Extending you existing GPU is at a rate of 365:114 days. So it will cost you $218/yr or approx $18/m usinf this method.

      • don't you get 2:1 once your current sub expires?

      • -1

Cheaper to just extend existing GPU directly at $48.41/3m ($16.14/m) with the current deal, instead of via a 12m GPC code.

        • huh? doesn't it work out to be like $10.61pm if you extend your expired membership with a 12 month code as per the above?

  • Anyway to take advantage of this if you're already subbed? Can I just cancel and sign back up again?

    • Depends. If you are already subbed to Core, you could convert it right now without buying another Core membership at the above rates, or if you're on other subscription tiers, you have to wait for it to expire (disable auto-renew) and then take advantage of this deal. You could purchase the codes now and then wait for it to expire, then apply the codes.

      • Thanks, yeah I'm currently subbed to Ultimate paying about $23/m.

  • Defiantly cheaper options than this, you can get 3 years of core for $120Aud using the vpn method instead of this at $180 for 3 years.

    • I would be careful with this. Some reports on Reddit that Microsoft is starting to ban for going outside of ToS with the VPN method. I think mainly for games but could extend to Game Pass too

      • +1

Good to know, cheers man. Have already done the method last month, so hopefully they'll leave me be haha

        • Which method did you use? I expired last week need to renew

      • Any link to these reports, I tried searching for some but could not find any recent reports

  • can it convert to xgp pc pass?

  • Sorry how to I get standard - when I click it just has core/ultimate. Apologise for the dumbness! Only interested in console. I am currently on ultimate 14 day trial (coming off Ultimate 3 year sub that expired end of Sept).

You have to convert core to standard?

  • So most effective way to do this would be when you’re still in the $1 for 14 day initial trial? Buy 2 years of core and apply that to upgrade to ultimate for $137 for 12 months ($136 for 2 x12 month core + $1 trial fee).

    • Do you need to buy the minimum one month ultimate if still in the 2 week trial period?

      • +1

Yep as the conversion needs to be done while you have a valid UPG subscription and it will convert 2:1.

You need to let your current sub expire, then you redeem your Xbox Core Codes. Once this is done, you sign up for GPU and it will 'detect' how much time you have on your Core membership and convert that into GPU at a 50% rate.

Essentially 12 months of Core will convert to 6 months of GPU.

        • Awesome thanks. Just got new XSX last week so will do 14 day trial first and then once that lapses I’ll do this.

Will buy 2 years core + 1 month ultimate.

          • @maxo84: ensure you do it in the correct order as well.

            • @chadleyshe: Sorry I know I’m asking lots of questions but to confirm:

              1. Let all subs expire
              2. Redeem core passes
              3. Redeem 1 month ultimate
              4. Apply conversion
              • +1

                @maxo84: yep spot on.

              • @maxo84: Can I apply this if I already currently on the 14 day Ultimate trial or is that your step one (have to wait for it to expire)?

              • @maxo84: Thank you for sharing this step-by-step guide.

I followed it and got 8 months of Ultimate for $84.07.

  • Anyone know how soon we have to redeem the vouchers? Planning on buying an Xbox in this coming Feb 2025, so don't want to waste the sub

  • +1

Having all sorts of issues trying to purchase the core sub through amazon. The ultimate worked fine but when I try and order the core sub it says there is suspected unauthorised access to my account and I have to update passwords etc.

    • This happened to me as well, got so paranoid that I changed all my passwords - glad I'm not the only one

    • Happened to me as well, so they cancelled all my purchases going back to Friday.

      • Yeah what a terrible process. Mine all got canceled too, so frustrating. Got locked out of the account and had to call them.

        • Amazon told me no refunds, so I've contacted Amex. 3 transactions refunded already, but this and Galaxy buds 2 pro are still waiting (probably because they're >$100)
