Prime day deal.

Yes, this is more expensive than most 10Gbps enclosures, such as from Orico. I do expect ppl to note in the comments that 'x' model from 'y' brand is cheaper, and just as good in terms of performance, and they will be correct in that respect.

But, I think the design of this enclosure is better compared to other brands/models.

Firstly, these allow very easy and quick swapping of m.2's. You pop the end tab with a little force, and you then just swivel the top up. And while an m.2 usually take a little finessing to get it to hold on the rubber grommet, it's a good design for fast drive swapping.

But the major advantage is that there is a proper thermal pad integrated into the top of the enclosure. And while some (most?) enclosures don't even have a thermal pad (and suffer from throttling of the m.2's), for others that do, they require a manual install of the pad on the drive during assembly.

This one doesn't, and for me, that is a major convenience when working on my mine, and other ppl's machines.

Anyway, this isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I believe this is an atl price, and it is a great price for a quality enclosure.

So for anyone that needs a convenient and fast method for m.2 drive swapping, this drive dock is an extremely good option.

  • Unrelated to this deal, and mods feel free to remove this comment, but I'm wondering why there are suddenly numerous deals being posted by the minute, at this obscure hour of a Tuesday morning? Is something going on that I don't know about?!?

Prime Day in the US just started. :)

      • Oh. I've never heard of that, I'll Google it, thanks for the heads up amigo!

    • Amazon Prime Big Deal Days from Tuesday 8 October 2024 to Sunday 13 October 2024.

  • What's a good 4TB drive to pair with this for photo and video backup storage purposes?

      PcPartPicker,
      https://au.pcpartpicker.com/products/internal-hard-drive/#f=…

From what I can see, there isn't anything on a special atm in the 4tb range (and would include current US prime day deals), and pcpartpicker usually picks up amazon price cuts before most ozbargain hunters manually do.

But virtually anything will do for an external dock drive, as long as it's still a well enough known name brand e.g. crucial and kingston are probably the 2 I would trust the most out of the lower priced tier drives. Though if you ever plan to put the drive to use as a system drive at any point in the future, it may be worth spending the extra for western digital or samsung.

So, from the pcpartpicker list, the Crucial P3 Plus is a very popular Gen4 drive, and is $329 inc shipping from Centre Com, or the Kingston NV2 is also another Gen4 drive, and is $299 inc shipping from Centre Com.

  • Great deal I guess. I am looking for the best brand / model for Mac (Thunderbolt compatible might be better
    ?) - any recommendation ?

    • The reviews indicate this drive is for being used with macs (as it is thunderbolt 3 compatible), though you will be restricted to usb 3.2 speeds (and 3.1 speed/5Gbps on older macs that don't have 10Gpbs ports).

If you specifically need thunderbolt 4/usb 4.0 speeds, you usually need to pay and are an a leg for even a cheap enclosure (and I personally can't recommend anything, as I haven't read up yet/studied reviews for usb 4 enclosures).

Sabrent is a solid brand and from what I found back them before buying it, they use decent micro controller.
Many enclosures out there use cheap micro controller so the NVMe performance is dogsh1t, not with this enclosure.
Of course, don't use dogsh1t NVMe on it.

Totally recommend it and this brand.

I have a couple of Orico enclosures and one of these as well, absolutely love it, it feels very premium, sleek and solid, love the no tool swap as well, definetely recommended
