PS5 Aftermarket Headset Auto Switching

Hey everyone, looking at getting the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 5X for my PS5 but was wondering if they ever updated the PS5 so that aftermarket headsets would auto switch sound from TV to Headset once the headset was turned on like the Pulse & Inzone headsets do.

I have read some older google search posts that state that it only works on the PlayStation headsets and all aftermarket ones need you to manually do it or remove USB dongle but was hoping it has been updated and fixed so this auto switching happens on all headsets now. I used to have a PS5 3D Pulse and the auto switching to on and off was fantastic and I’m staying away from the Pulse Elite due to the disconnecting issues that can’t seem to be fixed.

If anyone can help me out here be great as I’m very keen on the SS Arctis Nova 5X for my PS5 but without auto switching might be a bit of a downer.

It's not an issue with the PS5.

Some headsets will still detect the USB even when the headset is turned off.

I used to have Turtlebeach Stealth 700 Gen 2 connected to my PC for WFH and when I'm done for the day and want to listen music using my speakers, I had to manually select the onboard sound again to re-route the audio to my speakers. I got so tired of having to select the devices that I just unplugged the USB transmitter.

With the Audeze Maxwell, it didn't need to do that as the moment I turn off the headset the device will show as disconnected in Windows and the audio will automatically re-route to the speakers.

  • I have the Soundcore earbuds with USB C dongle and they auto detect and switch without the buds on when the dongle is plugged in

    • I keep reading that when the USB dongle is inserted into the PS5 the sound will go through the headset auto unless manually change it and this is even when the headset is turned off

Auto switching on and off only works on the PlayStation branded headsets like the Pulse and Inzone and also the Audeze Maxwell as they are owned by them

I was hoping this had been updated so the SteelSeries Nova 5X would auto switch on and off like the PlayStation branded headsets but all my googling is returned a result saying no it won’t but theses posts are from 2023 or early 2024

      • The Audeze Maxwell behaviour is also the same on PC. Also, Maxwell was created before Sony bought Audeze so it has nothing to with them being PS5 branded.
