Can I buy then return item and keep baggy
No you can't. The bag is scanned as a $0 item. I returned something that didn't go towards the bag, and they still checked if it was part of the qualifying items/$ for the bag.
It now shows up if an item is eligible for the bag when they scan it.
Apparently this started yesterday. I just got one today. I checked at the front before I began shopping to make sure they still have the bags.
Note, not all brands qualify for this. The POS now shows whether an item is eligible for the bag, so you cant just buy any skincare.
Some sunscreens under some brands are, some sunscreens aren't. I had a basket full of non-qualifying sunscreens (Cancer Council, Hawaiian Tropics, Hamilton) so I had to go back and kept shopping.
I ended up picking a few Neutrogena items that were half price, and some La Roshe Posay and DermaVeen sunscreens.

Got one today, there are some brands/items that don't count towards it (shows up when scanned if it does) so we had to go back and forth from the counter to double check if items we were purchasing were eligible.
Decent value from the bag though, a lot of items we would use/buy already
