Is This HDMI Ethernet Cable a Good Deal?

Has always been the price at The Good Guys. However other places are expensive.

Do the specs justify the price?

  • That is an awful price. Even amazon will be a lot better - https://www.amazon.com.au/Stouchi-48Gbps-Braided-Blu-ray-Pro…. Plenty of cheap cables on aliexpress too.

There is cheaper from Good guys too (although a little shorter) - https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/crest-8k-hdmi-cable-with-ethe…

What do you need ethernet for though?

edit: updated with a better but still cheaper cable.

I have and use numerous brands for HDMI cables, such as Monoprice and Blue Jeans. I bought a couple of new Ultra High Speed HDMI cables for around $10-$12 each several months on Amazon.au to use with a second Panasonic UB-820 4K Blu-ray player that I bought for my bedroom, this player has dual HDMI outputs (I wish the upcoming PS5 Pro had 2 HDMI outputs, it should for au$1200), they seem to be good quality HDMI cables and I’ve had no issues with them:

  • OP … How long is a piece of string ???

You haven't yet stated use case / reason …. What things you are connecting to said cable?

Answer that + will help to give you better replies.

[EDIT] … HDMI doesn't equal ETHERNET - you are mixing 2 different terminologys.

HDMI doesn't equal ETHERNET - you are mixing 2 different terminologys

No, HDMI with ethernet cables do that.

      • man - yet OP hasn't made any mention.
are you saying - you can grab any HDMI cable and plug it in … then expect ethernet INTERNET to work ???
        pfft !!!

HDMI == different kettle of fish.
Ethernet == DOESN'T support video/audio transmission (directly speaking)

@GordonD … if speaking about "ethernet OVER HDMI" … then yeah … but OP has NEVER mentioned that in post.

    • I meant for my PC, not ethernet no such thing my bad of mixing. My monitor supports 8k

My limited knowledge of HDMI that suggests after checking the link is that the cable is HDMI 1.4

My understanding is that most devices now are either HDMI 2.0 or HDMI 2.1

Therefore this cable would not be a good choice for anything other than connecting legacy equipment.

    • Yep, and that's why its not a good bargain. Its only 18 Gb/s. That's only 4K 30 fps. It may have been "high speed" when it was first sold, but its day has come and gone. You'd only buy it if you had an intended use that only required yesterday's resolutions and speeds.

I have cables from over 10 years ago that do 4k 60Hz no problem. It's really not much of an issue for most gear.

I've just pulled a monitor out of storage and started re-using it again. I'm glad I didn't throw it away when I thought it had developed a weird fault. What happened was I was getting the drivers together for a new computer, and when the driver loaded for DP it switched to the highest resolution available, and the monitor went blank. But it would still do that highest resolution on HDMI. I thought it was a monitor fault. In fact it turned out it was just that the old DP cable I was using didn't support that higher resolution. The fix was simple as a new DP cable. That's the sort of stupid problems you're going to have if you keep using old cables on newer computers and screens that support higher resolution. They won't work. And you'll waste more time sorting it out than it would have cost to get a new cable.

  • Either the Blaupunkt at Coles for $9.99

Maybe Gerry got a solution under $500 ?
