Same deal as before is back and I pulled the trigger to finally use a half decent grinder for my French press.
Reviews are mostly positive for the price range as long as you don't make espresso shots.

$105.95 without coupon. Free shipping so you can add other goodies from their shop some of which are also on special.

Main Features

  • Neat, space-saving device that holds up to 220g coffee beans.
  • Simple push button control and pre-set timer so you can grind the exact amount of coffee needed, keeping beans fresh and preventing waste.
  • Adjustable grind with 12 settings, ranging from French press to espresso.
  • Friction clutch that prevents damage to the grinding gear in the event of small stones in your beans.
  • The conical burr provides a consistent grind with no sharpening required. It spins slower than a wheel model, making it quieter and less messy.
  • Borosilicate glass catcher to reduce static cling, and preserve the taste and aroma of your coffee grounds.

Having had this, and have it oneday randomly stop working, I thoroughly recommend the Baratza Encore Grinder instead - twice the price - though they sell parts to repair yourself if it ever breaks down.

    • Since Bodum has still not sent the item after 5 days and are unresponsive I have cancelled the order and decided on the Baratza Encore Basic instead which is $264 with local pickup from AB. Thanks for this and all the other feedback.

  • First review I read said it's only really good for pourover, might give this one a miss

    • Yeah, I had one years ago because I was previously buying preground for espresso and wanted to make more pour over and cold brew. It was an improvement for the latter two, but not great for espresso. I figured since I had a cheap delonghi espresso machine it wasn't worth investing in a better grinder, but I was wrong.

On a budget, better off looking at the sunbean EM0440. As above, the baratza encore is great but at that price I'd also just keep an eye out for an ebay refurb sale and going to the breville store. I have an express impress I paid $500 for and it's great.

    • that review is just bizarre

      The downsides

      Fading colors:…

well don't keep it in the sun.

Flimsy lid: ….. Not a huge problem in daily life, since the grinder is pretty quiet; just a bit annoying.

The lid is there to keep any beans flying out when grinding, it's not meant to lock it in (that would be annoying). It's perfectly functional.

Of course glass is a lot more fragile than plastic, which is something to keep in mind if you’re clumsy.

if you're clumsy you shouldn't be making coffee in the first place. I suspect the author drinks out of a sippy cup.

I have this and it's okay for an entry level, but I've had to return it for replacement twice due to it randomly not working. One of those times was in the first three months.

They have been good about sending out a new one but I expect next time it dies they may no longer honour it.

  • I've had one for 3yrs for Aeropress usage.
it's been flawless, consistent grind, holds plenty of
unground/grounded beans Never missed a beat.

12 settings is a bit crap. Especially if they claim that covers french press to espresso.

I'd prefer better quality, more adjustable hand grinder for the same money. Less space, less noise, and hand grinding for pour over or french press is a breeze.

Not a very good grinder even for the price. The model has been out since 2013/14 with no major improvements.
Would save the money and heart ache for a better grinder.

Do you think the EM0440 would be better value or stay away from that as well?
