Oh wow, that's really amazing to see, thank you.
Geez what could go wrong?
What exactly is your concern with a read only external API?
some bank must have traumatised them
I guess that depends on how affected or concerned you'd be if all your personal and financial data was hoovered up by someone and released into the wild.
Even beyond the basic info of how much you earn, how much you have saved, etc. there's a lot about you that can be gleaned from someone's deposit account and credit card transaction history.
Personally, I'd love if more banks supported citizen developers, but I can understand why most would be hesitant. You just have to think of the frequent horror stories of "professional" developers committing their cloud API keys to public github repos to appreciate how it might go very wrong.
I would, at best, keep a minimal account of funds within the bank account , regardless of use-case. I don't think Up bank is a viable main banking solution based on what I've read. If it's primarily for project/hobby purposes, by all means go for it. Also, don't forget your environment variables if uploading to github

In what ways do you think Up is not a viable main banking solution? It does everything an ordinary bank account can do except for over-the-counter transactions.
lol you can't just start up a bank as a hobby in Australia.
They also guarantee up to 250k deposit as per the FCS.
Yeah, understandable. I meant the use of an API within a hobby project, not the bank itself. In no way am I discrediting the bank @kipps I don't believe it's viable as it's app only, which I guess is fine for most people, but lack of even a web based platform is an auto no for me. Depends on your needs, I guess.
They all have mobile apps, therefor they all have "external APIs" for access …
The real question is whether you have clearance to access it ;)
Generally when someone says external api it means an api that is public facing meant for clients to use. API's used on sites and apps are usually referred to as internal facing api's.
Look up open banking. I think most banks have it. Frollo app uses it
