        • Sorry if I sounded like I was attacking your comment, was just wondering if there was anything to go by. I agree tech gets better and better every day, same with ICE cars, price drops 10% off the lot, then next model comes out with better screen/safety etc etc.

I just don’t see Tesla to keep dropping price, but that’s just me. Elon isn’t dumb, cut pricing, have to cut it from something else, or become like Apple, bring out a Model 3 SE 😂😂😂

  • +1

Early youtubers made millions of dollars on tesla videos using referral codes.

    • +3

I've made thousands from ozbargain and Facebook. I've redeemed heaps of wall connectors and mobile chargers and sold them on eBay for tidy sums.
It's definitely helped offset the depreciation which I don't care about anyway as I plan to keep the car till it dies.

    • +2

This program appears to be capped at 10 referrals per person.

      • +1

        Edit: Per calendar year.

  • -1

another Tesla deal? someone seems desperate

  • -2

Model Y price dropped about 10k already.

will have bigger drop when more EV cars manufactures coming to AU.

according to car experts, you can get small EV SUV for 35k. lol..

    • +1

Still a ripoff. In China you can buy the ultimate plastic basic ev, with city driving range and smart car sizing, for what's equivalent to AUD $2000. And the shell of the car is a genuine accessory you can customise and replace.

Australia seems reluctant to accept non-luxury EVs for some reason.

  • -8

haha Tesla is getting desperate - good, this Junk needs to drop in price
still wont buy it but i can laugh at all the ppl that paid 2 x the price….

    • +11

They’re better cars for the price than any ICE at their price point, even before the tax benefits. Have you driven one?

      • Better in which way ? Lets compare with new Mazda 6 for example, which is around $40k, and Tesla is $60k

        • +7

Yep EVs are only good for the city…Said 5 years ago.
2024 a Perth guy went around Australia in a Model Y in 10 days averaging 1300km a day. Also a figure 8 around australia was done by a model Y towing a campervan. There are not the barriers that there were years ago.

          • -7

@PerthectDeal: yea no thx, again tell me what SUV i can buy for $50k thats Electric and that I can take on travels with the fam - mind you I had smaller kids back then so 2 hrs recharge time is not fun as any parent will tell you.

some hobo driving around Australia on his own in EV and recharging for 3 hrs is not my explanation of fun

            • +4

@botchie: The Tiguan R is $70k. I’d consider a model y, a Skoda enyaq as potential competitors. There is no universe where I would buy a VW DSG for reliability in urban, rural or regional settings.

              • -4

@vidiot: nah I paid $50k, sun roof, audio, all extras
edit - i did check and your right - they have gone up in price, but when I bought it, it was $50 so i can now sell it for the same $$ I bought it for and its 4 years old
cant do that with tesla, another win for ICE>

                • @botchie: Mate, i have (had) a tiguan R. Giving it to ky parents. Great car, but you raise some terrible, untrue points. I just bought a BYD Seal Performance, and you can't compare the quality, and it is not in VWs favour.

Once you drive an electric car, the quiet cabin, the responsiveness, the tech, you just cant compare. Petrol just seems like the equivalent of "diesel" to me now.

And bud, a tiguan is no where near $50k. Arent they like 74k, or 80k on road? What's this $50k nonsense?!

                  • -1

@BusMan247: mate, why you all EV fellas comparing sedans to SUVs?
how much for a ev suv pls?

            • +5

@botchie: You don't need to worry about 3 hour recharging times, DC fast charger can charge to 80% in under 30 minutes, that is how a model Y went around Australia 13,000km in 10 days. He was spending most of that time driving or sleeping, not charging.

        • +16

Botchie, you need to get out of the cave bro. You are missing out.

Travelled sydney to Melbs and only charged twice, 20mins each, enough for my two toddlers to jump on the grass and change nappies. Seriously, your info is from 2016, we’re on 2024 now.

Also, yeah buy your tiguan mate, all yours lol. 😂😅😅, sooner or later, it’s about your and your tiguan ahah

          • +2

@Fredfloresjr: He can't afford Tesla, simple.

            • -5

@jaycasanova: nah, i just own mortgage free home in Sydney worth $2.5m, no finance on my VW .
              loving life
I do have solar before you call me out on that but still not buying Teslacrapbox

          • -4

@Fredfloresjr: how is my info from 2016 - are the cars charging faster now? are they more spacious :)
im fine with my car thx, hasnt lost value and will go well past 10 years when Teslas turn into scrap…

            • +6

@botchie: yeah - they are charging faster now…

            • +5

@botchie: EVs don't suddenly turn to scrap, the battery will degrade, EVs have battery management systems keeping the batteries temperature constant by liquid 24/7. This is different from early Hybrids that used air cooling with filters getting blocked with dust and only lasted 7 years. They do have a number of full charge cycles but that is +400,000 km taking into account cycles and range.

            • +1

@botchie: I can ambibox my ev in 10 years for a home battery. Your Tiguan is junk yard car. VW are not reliable

              • -3

@ChickenAdobo: batteries will be like $5k soon, you wanna use $80k car as battery - Tesla owner logic right there

                • +1

@botchie: An MG4 is 4 powerwalls 3. Dumb arse of the century with his/her tiguan . why not used your car that has 90% battery left after 10 years and save even more money. Just want to add that your POS vw can't be a battery for your home

                  • -1

@ChickenAdobo: lol, so you think your smart - lets see your logic
buy $90k car to "save" on power by paying $40k over what ICE would be worth for same
then 10 years later lose all $90k and use the car instead of a $5k battery

                    mateeee
                    your so clever.

                    • +1

@botchie: An mg4 is 27.5k drive away with 50.9 kW battery. Each Powerwall 3 is 16k fully installed. I’m guessing an Ambibox Ambicharge will be less than 1 powerwall 3.

After 10 years the MG4 battery state of health should be around 3/4 Tesla powerwall depending on the user charging history. In 10 years there will be cheaper and better EVs unlike the museum bound ice POS cars.

Your VW can’t be a battery in 10 years. It can only be a noisy petrol generator that your neighbour think it a nuisance with the petrol sniffing being airborne. Knowing VW pathetic reliability you will have buyers remorse one day. Good luck with that junk of a car. That 50k sunken cost that can’t be repurposed. Who the smart one now?

        • +3

Entry level Tiguan R is $80k. Maybe you should fact check before making silly comparisons. Or are you just here to prove OPs point?

          • -5

@devize: My 2020 model was $50k, so held up value well

            • +5

@botchie: Asks to tell a better car that can be bought at the same price point, brings up pricing which is now impossible to obtain, gets shown the model Y is cheaper, attacks everyone.
I wonder why you're not convincing anyone?
So… Are you going to convince people who actually wanna buy a car in 2024, or keep saying things that are not at all helpful to someone buying a car now?
Stop arguing for arguments sake and start providing value through your comments

              • -7

@Ibz: When I bought my car Tesla was more expensive then today so my point remains
Ice car went up in value, crap box Ev down
Don't be angry with me I made a better financial decision, just happens mate
That's why I always big lol at idiots that say they save $$ with Tesla .
                Big lol

                • +1

@botchie: Repurposie a Tesla model y to a home battery in 10 years and save thousands on fuel cost. Save more with solar and 8 cent charge plan. You are the one regretting paying thousands on petrol every year with a POS iceturd VW that will impress no one in 10 years.

                  • -4

@ChickenAdobo: Hahah, how about you do the maths, pay $40k more for a car to save maybe $10k in fuel
Brilliant , mate - you should be an investor
And best part is all these Tesla ppz that bought few years ago are now watching price drops through the ceiling
                    Priceless

                    • -1

@botchie: Did you compute the cost to your health every time you sniff the petrol fume? The excessive engine noise that damages your hearing the more you vroom vroom your car?

Each time you breathe that shit fume in, your life clock sink faster than a titanic. Every vroom vroom you make, you become more deafer by the second. Eventually you need to learn sign language.

That astronomical health loss that money can’t buy. I take a longer life and better health with an EV any day. Enjoy your POS 50k VW that should come with a health warning.

                      • -4

                        @ChickenAdobo: Bahahaha, that's actual gold
                        You Tesla freaks are fun
Don't ever go on a plane mate, or a boat.
Your clueless, we actually breathe the same air..ahahahah
This is the funniest thing I read
And I bet im more healthier then you

                        • @botchie: The difference is that you are close proximity of foul engine noise and fumes every time you drive thus your exposure and greater and your risk index is higher than me.

            • @botchie: 2020 is not 2024 if you have realised yet

              • @devize: Yeah, how much Tesla then and how much is it now

                • @botchie: So you still harping on about irrelevant topics when the original comment was about current values. Whatever helps you sleep better at night mate.

                  • -1

@devize: original comment was about how crap and overpriced Tesla is, and how it will bottom in price even more
so all you suckers are about to lose a lot of value, but yeah your not buying the car for that right

                    • +2

@botchie: Original comment was about EVs CURRENTLY being better cars for the money and all you've been able to do is harp on about prices from 4 years ago.

                      • -1

@devize: yep, keep telling yourself that ….better value - lol

                        • +1

@botchie: Yet you still talk about 4 years ago - lol

  • +3

Who would be that cruel to refer someone they actually know…

  • +3

They'd probably sell more cars by enabling Apple Car Play and Android Auto. But you know Elon knows best. Wait… could it be they are trying to sell you premium connectivity

    • +3

Apple Car Play and Android Auto aren't features themselves - they're workarounds for when the manufacturer of the car doesn't want to (or doesn't know how to) build their own infotainment system.

      • +1

I get a lot of hire cars for work and it's always good in a different car to have the consistency of apple car play. But the implementation is often sketchy with some cars lose functions from the touchscreen when carplay takes over and there is the odd frustrating connectivity issue which usually requires to stop and turn off the car.
I own a byd with carplay but don't use it and I really like the Tesla UI/UX maybe only because I've had it for a while now.

    • +4

Oh god I hope he never backs down from that. Tesla UI is so good I couldnt stand being forced to go back to Android/Apple.

    • +2

Nah I thought the same but after trying it, Tesla's infotainment is better than often janky AA/carplay. Don't miss it at all.

  • Thanks OP! FYI - If you've previously loaded a referral link into your referral page on Ozbargain it's worth double checking as I noticed the format of the link had changed - not sure if the old format will still work but worth checking anyway - I've updated mine just to be sure!

  • So about 1% off?

    • Not sure - but great for accessories.

    • +2

What are the safety concerns with the Teslas?

      • +2

Just in case Apue was heading down the "All EVs catch fire route…"
        https://www.mdpi.com/2571-6255/6/8/325
…An analysis of Australian carpark fire statistics revealed that the country experiences an average fire frequency of 2130 fires per million vehicles. However, given the low penetration of EVs (less than 0.1% as of 2020) and no recorded EV fires, further analysis specific to EVs was not justified. Based on existing data, the average EV fire frequency in Australia is six fires per million EVs, significantly lower than the frequency for all vehicles. Similarly, in the United States, EVs account for less than 0.03% of annual car fires, with an estimated 55 fires per year, compared to 284,130 fires in internal combustion engine vehicles. Additionally, studies have shown that battery electric vehicles (BEVs) have a lower fire rate in fatal collisions compared to gasoline vehicles, attributing this to the less combustible nature of lithium-ion batteries, the reduced complexity of EVs, and the location of the fuel source away from the front of the vehicle…

Please delete this so you don’t look… nevermind

  • Can you use the referral link to buy the tesla inventory cars? And apply the finance deal from yesterday?

    • Yes I believe you can for both.

  • I ordered 3 days ago. Ive asked the dealership if they can still apply it. I doubt ill have any luck but i figure no harm in asking

    • they wont applyt it retroactively but you should be able to cancel and re-do

    • Just referred someone else too.. literally just 3 days ago. Lol

  • Okay so I only need 160 referrals so I can get a free Tesla, I don't suppose there's 160+ willing participants that are willing to help out hahahaha, I desperately need a replacement car lol

  • Excellent news. I just got my level 4 Fifa referee accreditation. Winning!

  • +1

Wow, a 1% discount what a huge deal!

    • Much better in the US.

Equivalent to $1400 and the long range RWD is far cheaper than LR here.

      • They get massive credits too, $7,500 USD IIRC

        • Government subsidies? Isn't that what China is doing for their EVs?

          • @inamberclad: Yep. Makes sense to. The Liberals killed our automotive industry

            • +3

@arcticmonkey: We all killed our car industry. Australian wages and taxes are just too much to ever be competitive. Nation is shit because a drooling (profanity), who failed year 9, holding up a road sign earns more than the people who tried to educate him.

              • +2

@Salmando: I agree with the last point re road signs. Those people have played their cards very well.

The Liberals very clearly killed car manufacturing in Australia though by stopping support which other countries are now aggressively doing.

Wages are high in many countries that still produce cars so that is not an acceptable excuse.

  • -2

I assume referee is for males, and referrer is for females??

  • I'm a basketball referee does that count

  • Are you only able to become a referrer if you have bought a tesla? As I have not bought any tesla products in the past and do not have the 'refer and earn' option in my tesla app

    • +1

Yeah you need to own a Tesla to be able to give someone a referral.

  • FYI, the discount is now $1000 via referral

    • Teslas feeling the pressure 😂

    • No it’s not. $1000 is US. Switch country to AU.

  • mur-ney! mur-ney! giv-it-touyu, giv-it-touyu!

    be-kau, I lur-v yoo!

  • I don't think the price will drop any further for model Y for at least 18-24 months, (for model 3 yes maybe since the base model is getting axed soon), however, 1.99% interest might be on the table to boost sales.
But, by then new Model Y will be here and that will be at a little higher price point IMO.

  • +1

Finger crossed battery prices will come down and subsequently, EV prices comes down by another $10k….

  • +3

Looks like the referral credit has been reduced to $350 for referee and $175 for referrer.
