Better in which way ? Lets compare with new Mazda 6 for example, which is around $40k, and Tesla is $60k

      • -7

what price point is that? tell me a Tesla model that is better and same price as VW Tiguan R - top of the line that can be bought for $50k
I want a SUV, that can drive around Australia for family trips

        • +4

Yep EVs are only good for the city…Said 5 years ago.
2024 a Perth guy went around Australia in a Model Y in 10 days averaging 1300km a day. Also a figure 8 around australia was done by a model Y towing a campervan. There are not the barriers that there were years ago.

          • -4

@PerthectDeal: yea no thx, again tell me what SUV i can buy for $50k thats Electric and that I can take on travels with the fam - mind you I had smaller kids back then so 2 hrs recharge time is not fun as any parent will tell you.

some hobo driving around Australia on his own in EV and recharging for 3 hrs is not my explanation of fun

            • +3

@botchie: The Tiguan R is $70k. I’d consider a model y, a Skoda enyaq as potential competitors. There is no universe where I would buy a VW DSG for reliability in urban, rural or regional settings.

              • -2

@vidiot: nah I paid $50k, sun roof, audio, all extras
edit - i did check and your right - they have gone up in price, but when I bought it, it was $50 so i can now sell it for the same $$ I bought it for and its 4 years old
cant do that with tesla, another win for ICE>

            • +2

@botchie: You don't need to worry about 3 hour recharging times, DC fast charger can charge to 80% in under 30 minutes, that is how a model Y went around Australia 13,000km in 10 days. He was spending most of that time driving or sleeping, not charging.

        • +13

Botchie, you need to get out of the cave bro. You are missing out.

Travelled sydney to Melbs and only charged twice, 20mins each, enough for my two toddlers to jump on the grass and change nappies. Seriously, your info is from 2016, we’re on 2024 now.

Also, yeah buy your tiguan mate, all yours lol. 😂😅😅, sooner or later, it’s about your and your tiguan ahah

@Fredfloresjr: He can't afford Tesla, simple.

            • -3

@jaycasanova: nah, i just own mortgage free home in Sydney worth $2.5m, no finance on my VW .
              loving life
I do have solar before you call me out on that but still not buying Teslacrapbox

          • -2

@Fredfloresjr: how is my info from 2016 - are the cars charging faster now? are they more spacious :)
im fine with my car thx, hasnt lost value and will go well past 10 years when Teslas turn into scrap…

            • +5

@botchie: yeah - they are charging faster now…

            • +4

@botchie: EVs don't suddenly turn to scrap, the battery will degrade, EVs have battery management systems keeping the batteries temperature constant by liquid 24/7. This is different from early Hybrids that used air cooling with filters getting blocked with dust and only lasted 7 years. They do have a number of full charge cycles but that is +400,000 km taking into account cycles and range.

            • @botchie: I can ambibox my ev in 10 years for a home battery. Your Tiguan is junk yard car. VW are not reliable

              • -2

@ChickenAdobo: batteries will be like $5k soon, you wanna use $80k car as battery - Tesla owner logic right there

                • +1

@botchie: An MG4 is 4 powerwalls 3. Dumb arse of the century with his/her tiguan . why not used your car that has 90% battery left after 10 years and save even more money. Just want to add that your POS vw can't be a battery for your home

                  • @ChickenAdobo: lol, so you think your smart - lets see your logic
buy $90k car to "save" on power by paying $40k over what ICE would be worth for same
then 10 years later lose all $90k and use the car instead of a $5k battery

                    mateeee
                    your so clever.

                    • @botchie: An mg4 is 27.5k drive away with 50.9 kW battery. Each Powerwall 3 is 16k fully installed. I’m guessing an Ambibox Ambicharge will be less than 1 powerwall 3.

After 10 years the MG4 battery state of health should be around 3/4 Tesla powerwall depending on the user charging history. In 10 years there will be cheaper and better EVs unlike the museum bound ice POS cars.

Your VW can’t be a battery in 10 years. It can only be a noisy petrol generator that your neighbour think it a nuisance with the petrol sniffing being airborne. Knowing VW pathetic reliability you will have buyers remorse one day. Good luck with that junk of a car. That 50k sunken cost that can’t be repurposed. Who the smart one now?

        • +1

Entry level Tiguan R is $80k. Maybe you should fact check before making silly comparisons. Or are you just here to prove OPs point?

          • -3

@devize: My 2020 model was $50k, so held up value well

            • +1

@botchie: Asks to tell a better car that can be bought at the same price point, brings up pricing which is now impossible to obtain, gets shown the model Y is cheaper, attacks everyone.
I wonder why you're not convincing anyone?
So… Are you going to convince people who actually wanna buy a car in 2024, or keep saying things that are not at all helpful to someone buying a car now?
Stop arguing for arguments sake and start providing value through your comments

              • -2

@Ibz: When I bought my car Tesla was more expensive then today so my point remains
Ice car went up in value, crap box Ev down
Don't be angry with me I made a better financial decision, just happens mate
That's why I always big lol at idiots that say they save $$ with Tesla .
                Big lol

                • @botchie: Repurposie a Tesla model y to a home battery in 10 years and save thousands on fuel cost. Save more with solar and 8 cent charge plan. You are the one regretting paying thousands on petrol every year with a POS iceturd VW that will impress no one in 10 years.

Who would be that cruel to refer someone they actually know…

  • +3

They'd probably sell more cars by enabling Apple Car Play and Android Auto. But you know Elon knows best. Wait… could it be they are trying to sell you premium connectivity

    • +2

Apple Car Play and Android Auto aren't features themselves - they're workarounds for when the manufacturer of the car doesn't want to (or doesn't know how to) build their own infotainment system.

      • I get a lot of hire cars for work and it's always good in a different car to have the consistency of apple car play. But the implementation is often sketchy with some cars lose functions from the touchscreen when carplay takes over and there is the odd frustrating connectivity issue which usually requires to stop and turn off the car.
I own a byd with carplay but don't use it and I really like the Tesla UI/UX maybe only because I've had it for a while now.

    • +3

Oh god I hope he never backs down from that. Tesla UI is so good I couldnt stand being forced to go back to Android/Apple.

    • +1

Nah I thought the same but after trying it, Tesla's infotainment is better than often janky AA/carplay. Don't miss it at all.

  • Thanks OP! FYI - If you've previously loaded a referral link into your referral page on Ozbargain it's worth double checking as I noticed the format of the link had changed - not sure if the old format will still work but worth checking anyway - I've updated mine just to be sure!

  • So about 1% off?

    • Not sure - but great for accessories.

    • +2

What are the safety concerns with the Teslas?

      • +1

Just in case Apue was heading down the "All EVs catch fire route…"
        https://www.mdpi.com/2571-6255/6/8/325
…An analysis of Australian carpark fire statistics revealed that the country experiences an average fire frequency of 2130 fires per million vehicles. However, given the low penetration of EVs (less than 0.1% as of 2020) and no recorded EV fires, further analysis specific to EVs was not justified. Based on existing data, the average EV fire frequency in Australia is six fires per million EVs, significantly lower than the frequency for all vehicles. Similarly, in the United States, EVs account for less than 0.03% of annual car fires, with an estimated 55 fires per year, compared to 284,130 fires in internal combustion engine vehicles. Additionally, studies have shown that battery electric vehicles (BEVs) have a lower fire rate in fatal collisions compared to gasoline vehicles, attributing this to the less combustible nature of lithium-ion batteries, the reduced complexity of EVs, and the location of the fuel source away from the front of the vehicle…

    • Just referred someone else too.. literally just 3 days ago. Lol

  • Okay so I only need 160 referrals so I can get a free Tesla, I don't suppose there's 160+ willing participants that are willing to help out hahahaha, I desperately need a replacement car lol

This is not long running, the tag should be removed.

Wow, a 1% discount what a huge deal!

    • Much better in the US.

Equivalent to $1400 and the long range RWD is far cheaper than LR here.

      • They get massive credits too, $7,500 USD IIRC

        • Government subsidies? Isn't that what China is doing for their EVs?

          • @inamberclad: Yep. Makes sense to. The Liberals killed our automotive industry

            • +1

@arcticmonkey: We all killed our car industry. Australian wages and taxes are just too much to ever be competitive. Nation is shit because a drooling (profanity), who failed year 9, holding up a road sign earns more than the people who tried to educate him.
