6.25” Smart Carplay Display for Tesla Model 3 and Y $149.04 Delivered @ Satonic Autoparts

80
VANILLA

In this weeks episode of how ridiculously low can you go Satonic are launching their new 6.25” Carplay screen for an astounding introductory price of ~$149. The screen is a significant improvement over the 6.86” screen with a higher 1560x720 resolution, dual bluetooth and wifi support.

For about $30 more you can pair it with a front parking camera as well which I use almost daily and would highly recommend. You can read more about the unit at their blog post here

    Good deal for Salman Rushdi

Nice device, but Tesla should have fitted this screen as standard.

    • Haven’t you seen the latest Teslas? Minimalism is what the customers want… remove remove and supplement with onscreen buttons.

      • I guess onscreen buttons are cheaper.

    • +2

tbh, I would hate to have this on my Tesla. The big screen is already enough, how many more LED inches someone needs, unless you are cross eyed.

      • I think they meant that Tesla should have CarPlay/AA on the existing screen.

        • No, they want to add another screen in addition to already gigantic screen in front lol

          • +1

@Fredfloresjr: But the gigantic screen isn't in front it's off to the side

            • @His_Holiness: Yeah but it works well and isn't obscured by the steering wheel or your hands and isnt affected by how tall you are or how high you like to sit up.
Plenty of cars have awful UX due to needing compromises to look at the Speedo.

    • Next we need some 3rd party, bluetooth indicator stalks.

    • +1

I think this is pointless. This is inside the steering wheel and will be hard to look at. The large Speedo on the big main display is already better positioned.

What would be good is a proper HUD projected onto the window.

      • While I don't think this device is pointless, I do agree that a HUD would be the best option.

how is it installed? the link on the website shows the rear screen

    • +2

Here’s the installation video. It takes about 45 minutes to install the head unit only. If you’re adding the front camera you’d be looking at approximately a 90 minute install time start to finish.

      • +1

any instructions for installing the front camera?

      • Is the cable location same for right-handed AU Model Y?

        • The cable location is the same. Right hand footwell (driver’s side in AU)

  • What's the issue with just using your phone in a proper cradle?

  • Do you have installation video for the front camera as well? How easy/hard to install?

    • +1

It’s not that complicated but a little time consuming. 4/10 complexity and very worth the effort I’d say. I like this video for camera installs but make sure you pass your camera wiring through the left hand (passenger) side firewall so the opposite side of the video. I recommend having someone pull the cable through from the inside of the car while another person pushes down onto the firewall grommet to ensure the cable passes through undamaged as the firewall sheet has sharp edges.

  • so could you run waze through this screen ?

    • +1

      Yes

  • like the idea of the screen and carplay but don't like the idea of pulling apart the car and risk breaking the plastic tabs. Think I'll stick with phone in a cradle

  • Can i use this for any car?

    • +1

Tesla model 3 (non highland) and Y only mate sorry.

    • Have look at Carpuride screens.

  • do you have any installers in Sydney?

  • That's an insane price, can't say no to that. I already have so many splitter dongles hanging off the centre console CANbus tap, one more won't hurt.

I installed their 8.8 inch display a couple of months back on my 2020 model 3.
Installation is tight as the cpu is flipped compared to the US and at one stage felt impossible.
Quality of the unit was pleasing, however the speaker in it is useless so connecting via android auto is pointless.
The size compared to this offering I am a bit on the fence about. The 8.8 is a little tricky to see as it’s partially blocked by the steering wheel. Maybe I should upgrade to a yoke!
Support is weak. One email was unanswered, the other took days to reply and I had found the answer elsewhere, which also led me to notice many other companies make similar units, but in all fairness this mob are trying to innovate and are regularly bringing out new products.

    • You're not wrong about the installation on older model 3s. The instructions made no indication how difficult this is to install on my 2019 Atom model 3. There is no connector in the side footwells, it required removing the glovebox and a bunch of air vent ducting to even gain access to the computer, the plug is definitely in a tight spot and the wire routing is fiendish. Definitely more than a 1-man Sunday afternoon install. I haven't even started on the camera installation yet, that'll have to wait for another quiet weekend.

I hope they support this too. My Vjoycar dashboard hasn't displayed correct battery % since 2024.20.1 and they still haven't released an update.

@turkz Is there any flexibility in the built-in displays? I prefer my power output in kW not hp.

      • @turkz1 is there a manual for this thing? I've had to guess how most of it works as the 2 minute video doesn't really get into it.
oh whoops got the wrong username in parent post.

  • @turkz1
Is the deal still active? Seeing a different price now

    • $168.98 now I’ll expire the deal.

      • Thanks @turkz1, any chance of a sale that matches the old price soon? My fault for noting the deal but not getting around to it til too late :(

        • +1

Let me see what I can do mate

        • Lowest I’m able to get it down to for you is $167.3 with VANILLA but unfortunately can’t match the previous sale. Hopefully it’s close enough!
