    Carbon Gray DLC

    That's one expensive watch re-skin!

My 6x Sapphire just isnt showing any signs of slowing down Or I'd jump on this

    • +3

I'm in the same boat, the 6 pro is still going great for me even though I've had it for 3-4 years and abused the hell out of it.

      Great price though

      • my fenix 6 has lost about 20% battery but its still good enough for a year at least

        • +1

How do you know that information about the battery?

          • @ALBastru: how long it says it should last, vs how long it really lasts

will be affected by notifications and how often you connect/disconnect etc but presumably you will be fairly used to how you use the watch and its somewhat consistent over the preceding few years

          • @ALBastru: i charge it to 100% but in few hrs gets down to around 80% then slowly drains as normal
if it was new the 100% would hold for few days

            • @botchie: Thanks. I thought there was some stats somewhere on the watch or in the Garmin app that you can check.

    • +2

Also have a 6X Sapphire and yep still looks brand new. Have had plenty of stacks off the mountain bike and not a scratch on it. Can't say the same about my body though.

    • Thinking getting the 7 model just for flashlights

What u guys think. I have 6x pro

      • The flashlight is super convenient

        • Thanks

Do you reckon the price might drop to around 700 to $800?

          • @ATTS: Maybe on Black Friday or something. I got mine as a trade up cheap after my 6s broke so flashlight and sapphire screen were very welcome bonuses.

            • @Enterz: Thanks, so eagerly waiting the 7 with flashlight

    • I have a 6x sapphire which still last for 2-3 weeks with daily exercise of 2-3 hours. Planning to buy Enduro 3 in Nov to claim gst.

Wanted morning report and training readiness. Currently check HRV and DSW (no week forecast) for what to do.

I'm still on the Fenix 6X Sapphire and it's still going strong with about 23 days battery at full charge (Bought in 2019). - overall has only lost 1 day charge from total (used to be 24d).
It's still going strong, Only had to replace the bands to a new one cause old one was worn out.

I can vouch for this product if anyone is considering upgrading or getting it

  • +2

Great price! Sapphire is a must if you beat the watch around a lot. Screen on mine looks flawless after 6 months.

Solar isn't as important - I find it doesn't really boost the battery but maybe I'm not outdoors enough.

    • My sapphire 6x screen and bezel is flawless after 4 years. Only thing that wears is the band (I replace about once a year) and the back of the watch

  • -2

only if its the amoled screen

    • +1

You might want the Epix 2 Pro Gen 2 - almost double the price though.

      • yes. can't justify the price hike on fenix 8. waiting for sub 1k epix 2 pro gen2

    • +1

My point exactly. Have Fenix 7X sapph solar, sits on the shelf, wearing Forerunner 265 instead

      • +5

        It’s all preference.

I’ve owned both AMOLED and MIPS. I prefer MIPS because it’s actually always on, and it’s not a giant bright screen on my wrist. I feel that the wrist gesture to wake on AMOLED gets a bit annoying on the AMOLED versions, it’s minimal, but annoying. However AMOLED tends to be easier to read majority of the time and is beautiful (but quite bright).

That said both are excellent and this is a small nitpick.

Anyone looking to decide should go with what they’re familiar and/or comfortable with. It’s not a huge difference at the end of the day.

    • +2

I actually prefer MIPS - lower battery usage and better visibility in sunlight. Don't really mind the low visibility in the dark since I can just turn on the backlight.

  • so never have to charge this? because its solar? damn its cheaper than what I paid for my Apple watch Ultra 2 at 1399.
    looks good too.

    • thats what i'd like to know, so whenever the watch is exposed to some form of sunlight, its recharging the battery?
you'd have to be really outdoors all the time to use this feature but expect theres a backup battery installed in it anyway

but gosh, dont think i could pay so much for a watch, i already lost my fitbit 2 lol

      • +1

It doesn't do a whole lot. But the charge in these things is great! Don't expect the battery % to go up while you're out, but it certainly keeps the watch going for longer.

I charge my 7X Sapphire Solar every 15-25 days, depending on how much I use it for GPS activities determines how long it lasts.

        • 15-25 day battery life this reminds me of the old Pebble smart watches they had the best battery life of any smart watch.

          • +1

@kungfuman: Yeah, I moved from an Apple Watch and it's day & night comparison. Having to charge my Apple Watch every day versus every couple of weeks, with very similar features except much better GPS/sports performance.

      • +1

The solar doesn't charge the device, it reduces the discharge while you have GPS and activities running. If you do a lot of outdoor activities it helps a lot in keeping the battery lasting longer.

    • If you use GPS activities a lot you're going to have to charge it

    • Solar is a bit of gimmick you have to be outdoor a lot for it to make a difference. Having said that, battery life is far superior to apple watch I think.

      • how is the ultimate outdoors watch needing to be outdoors to use a feature a gimmick? maybe dont buy this watch if you sit inside all day there is like 100 cheaper alternatives

    • From my understanding you do need to charge the solar ones eventually, but I know someone who had an Instinct solar and they said they probably charged it maybe once a month and they used it for long distance running training probably 5-7 days a week.

For reference, I think if I did 1-hour of GPS activities a day, I would probably have to charge my Forerunner 945 after about 5-6 days.

about $900 from eBay, either from nofrills or Ryda

    their list price is $998.75
ebay code SNSM11 gives you $50 off.

But… if you add another random item to make your shopping cart more than $1,000. the SNSM11 code will give you $100 off.
e.g. add the fenix and a $5 screen protector to your ebay shopping cart, total cart is $1003.75, use the SNSM11 code for $100 off, then you only pay $903.75.

Updated post to factor in cheapest eBay option without eBay plus.
Also $100 off with the 7x Pro Sapphire (or any >=$1,000 watch) from Johnny Appleseed, Wild Earth, Ryda etc on eBay with code SPORT120.

      • Hey mate, can't get the $100 off with SPORT120, only showing the $50 discount. Tried with other items from each of the listed stores. T&C of the promo code says they need to also be "sporting goods", any ideas how to do this?

    • This is only for non-ebay plus yes?i have ebay plus but only the get $50 and total is $1k plus
Tried and no dice, only get $50

      • Create a new non eBay plus account if that's the case

      • ah… looks like SNSM11 is targetted, and SPORT120 only apply for select items.
OP's DickSmith's option is the cheapest if you can't use SNSM11.

  • This or huawei gt4?
    Use case gym training

    • What do you do at the gym?

      • Running on treadmill, weightlifting, swimming if available …

        • Excellent for running (that's what the watches are geared for) but definitely better outdoor when it uses GPS. Not great for weights (doesn't really add any value). Okay for swimming (can be hard to track distance).

    • Comparing Huawei GT4 with this Garmin … Huge price gap. For gym training, Huawei GT-Runner instead ;-) (I have it). One of the best for running, weightlifting …

Check youtube "The Quantified Scientist" for comparison of so many smartwatches accuracy. Huawei GT-Runner is one the best for heart rate accuracy after apple watches, Huawei GT3 Pro, Pixel watch 3 …

Huawei GT-Runner is not the latest smartwatch anymore, but still more accurate than Huawei GT4 and many other brands. If you want the latest, maybe choose Huawei Band 9 instead (watch YouTube "The Quantified Scientist"). Can't recommend Huawei GT4 or GT5 or GT5 Pro …

    Fantastic discount.

Pity it doesn't apply to the 42mm version. I've had a Fenix 6S since it came out, and it's still ticking along. Bit of a shame the new line-up doesn't have a MIP-based Fenix 8S.

  • +3

what do people buy this watch for just out of interest? I have a forerunner 955 and i use maybe 20% of the available functions

  • No deal on 42mm, shame would have pulled the trigger

  • Thanks OP just grabbed one for my partners upcoming birthday! Chose Rebel for the $50ish back in rewards and easy local click collect!

  • I want this, but my Fenix 6X from 2019 is going strong for better or worse! If anyone is on the fence, the battery life is amazing so assume the same on this and an excellent watch for running (including workouts / racing / track), cycling and hiking!

Curious who's the target audience for this kind of highly sophisticated watch

    • +3

look at the marketing images. the target audience is this guy

      • -4

Thank god IM not him and can look at the time on my fone when needed

      • +4

Dude looks like a Bond villain that came in on a helicopter.

    • It has amazing battery life

  • Benefits of this over an Apple Watch apart from battery life?

  • Need a 965 deal

  • Are we likely to see some better deals come through during Black Friday?

    • Yes, Black Friday is one of the best time for bargains in general.

  • I got a 7x version a few months ago for $920. Nice watch.

  • No love part of prime day
