Looking for Android TV Media Player Recommendations (< $150)

Hey all, had a quick look around, doesn't seem like this was asked recently.

I have age-old mi box, works just fine, but looking for something that supports 4k for the new TV.

Thinking of buying the "new" mi box s, but wondering if there are better options?

Thanks!

    Chromecast with GoogleTV 4k

I prefer it over the Fire Stick Max 4k and the Apple TV 4K (own all 3).

I'd go for the new Google TV Streamer, it has a much more powerful processor.

      • If you care about most powerful processor, then you'd want the Apple TV. It processes rings around Google TV in terms of floating point units, or whatever.

        • ATV has the worst UI and remote control IMHO. Still… not as bad as the old ATV HD remote which was atrocious.

I especially hate the UI behaviour in Apple Music. It is so infuriating. Suggested album comes up you want to go to the artist. Sometimes holding select brings up a context menu with “go to artist”, other times this context menu doesn’t have that option..why!? And don’t even get me started on back button behaviour when browsing the catalogue while playing music. Terrible.

Playback is solid though and the UI isn’t laggy. Good integration with other Apple devices like the FaceTime thing and keyboard function.

      • Ooh, even better! Haven’t seen that. Might have to get one.

The nvidia shield pro is the only one you want to get. It's closer to double your budget. Set it up with smart tube next. tivimate with slyguys epg and channel list. kodi with fen light and real debrid and the loop with iptv simple client.

I understand only your first two sentences

Smart Tube Next = Third Party YouTube app with built-in adblocker

Tivimate = TV guide app which you can add custom IPTV playlists, ie custom streams of live TV channels

Slyguy = A Kodi add-on repository that includes said IPTV services for Australian TV (and NZ and some paid streaming services)

Kodi = Media player app, you can customise it with add-ons that let you access pirated TV channels, films, shows, etc

Fenlight = An add-on for said films and shows

The Loop = An add-on as above, but also contains a whole bunch of live TV channels

IPTV Simple Client = Another Kodi add-on that you use to sync the live TV channels in The Loop to your Tivimate TV guide app

        • The loop uses tv guide in kodi through the iptv simple addon. Can you hook it up to tivimate? that's be cool.

          • @frondono: I'm not sure, I just use the in-built guide myself. Probably something way for Tivimate to recognise the M3U file though?

            • @punkindrublic: Sounds like the link to the file will be in the IPTV simple client settings.

Got RD and Stremio set up on the weekend, works great.

Will check out Kodi & addons next

    • Too big, their other ones just sit at the back of your tv … and come with hdmi lead.

      • This one is a lot more powerful, had more ram and can use Ethernet.
