Why would you pay for this? Religious types more than happy to push their views

    • +2

I’m not a Christian myself but to be fair it’s human nature to push one’s views.

    • +2

It’s interesting to explore other views

  • +10

    Normally a Paid Course

Insert Anchorman I don't believe you meme

Google "christianity explored course fees" returns results showing this is the usual cost for such "education"

  • +3

    lol

  • +4

Pretty sure you can get any Christian to proselytize for free any day of the week! I've heard bibles are on sale too! Maybe put that in your next ad :)

  • +8

Excellent! I'm excited to learn about Christianity's role in The Crusades, The Inquisition, The Atlantic Slave Trade, in various Religious Wars throughout human history and who can forget Christianity's persecution of Minority Groups. Should be a hoot.

    • +2

Surely they can explain Exodus 21:7-11 and Exodus 21:20-21

      • +2

oh, ancient Israel, they certainly knew how to throw a party. Good times. Good times.

      • -3

What offends you? That slavery existed (since dot) or that Bible prescribed regulations to curb the worst of it?

        • +7

"Hey guys, I know god said that fathers can sell their daughters into slavery and that slave owners could beat their slaves as long as they survive, but at least he didn't say they could beat them to death, amiright!"

        • Curb the worst of it? So if I have someone write some bs words and publish them, expressing their moral outrage or statements that have them on the right side of a issue that plagues the planet, they should in return expect tremendous wealth, unimaginable power and a ruling to last thousands of years? Throw in an almost infinite supply of human resources over centuries doing their bidding, a handy tax free status for their entire operations. WE should be grateful to THEM? The scales of fairness have blindly been tipped in their favour. An innocent child that practices religion x can die of hunger, whilst a Pope wears 10k USD Prada shoes. That isn't a bug, it's a feature of fraudulent religion. And they all turn a blind eye. I won't even get started on sexual perversion swept under the rugs of various Christians in order to avoid justice, embarrassment, losing a dollar or being exposed as the fraud they are.

And pushing to ban Life of Brian. A real sin…

      Non Christians have done worse.

A friend recently left the Mormons because her daughter is gay and the Mormons consider lesbianism a sin and barred the daughter from the church (they are in Utah).

The mother said "If you can't accept my daughter that has been attending for 17 years I can't accept you". The cherry on top was the church then asked her husband if he gave permission for the wife to leave the church. She couldn't leave without permission from her spouse.

      • That is fascinating in 2024.
I can't imagine someone seeking permission for me to leave something. It's weird they don't realise that I'm leaving means you've already walked out the door. Shane they clearly don't treat people like adults although your friend likely has challenges I can't even imagine (such as legally established direct debits from one's wages as contributions), kind of like how impossible it was in Australia to leave gyms decades ago - one could expect payments to continue for years. Probably she might be trapped in such complication.

        • I'd leave simply because they aren't allowed to drink caffeine.

It's a fascinating religion. You are assigned a church. You can't swap around at a whim. My Mum was hard-core Catholic and she went to lots of different churches depending on which priest she liked & which was annoying her.

    • -The Crusades were started after hundreds of years of violent Islamic expansion threatening the borders of Europe.

-The inquisition was more of a Catholic thing (OK I guess they do fit under the broad umbrella of the 50,000 or so denominations but they hardly represent all of 'Christianity' and even if they did there's no way you could reconcile the inquisition and things like it to the Christ of the scriptures.)

-The Atlantic slave trade was started by black Africans, perpetuated by Arab Muslims and eventually stopped by British evangelical Christians.

But don't let the facts get in the way of your own crusade.

      • -1

        Shhhh dont mention facts 🤫

Also, dont talk about slavery in Asia, the role Christianity had in attempting to stop that and the ingrained caste systems and the ongoing persecutions they suffer (look at the Sinyu Persecution in Korea or the current issues in China, India, Pakistan, Vietnam etc.)

        • +1

Or the Barbary coast slave trade for that matter. :)

      • +1

There were conflicts between Christians and Muslims prior to the Crusades, the Crusades themselves were primarily motivated by religious zeal and the desire to reclaim the Holy Land.
The violence and destruction caused by the Crusades were not justified by any prior Islamic aggression.

The Inquisition's methods and actions were not reconcilable with the teachings of Jesus Christ, and they represent a gross distortion of Christian values.

While there were forms of slavery in Africa prior to the arrival of Europeans, the transatlantic slave trade was a system of forced labor organized and carried out by European powers.
Arab Muslims did participate in the slave trade, but they were not the primary perpetrators.
The abolition of the slave trade was primarily driven by humanitarian and moral concerns, NOT by religious beliefs.

Having been raised as a pretty hardcore Christian, I speak with some experience on the ludicrous hypocrisy of Christianity in general. Most annoyingly, to see it used in 2024 as a political mask is pretty sickening. It's fine if you disagree - I'm absolutely comfortable as I'm simply an atheist in adulthood, north of 50, tired of watching what all religions have gotten away with for thousands of years. I also don't care for the alternatives to Christianity. I don't care for religion. Billions of species of animals, insects, forms of life have lived on this earth, we are the only species arrogant enough to think the best is yet to come. We are not special. There is no heaven for lice, no heaven awaiting each individual ant and snail in my garden. But we are human so we are at the top of that tree, stronger and been around the longest. Sharks were here before dinosaurs, so they'd like to have a word. Oh I forgot, shouldn't mention the dinosaurs - the Christian Bible seemed to skip that chapter. 🤣 I might research what Jesus had to say about the whole inconvenient 'dinosaur' issue. 🤣

This is not a normally paid course.

How can you give me time and space? Sign me up!

    • username checksout.

      • Shame this "deal" doesn't!

  • +2

Advert. Surely this breaches posting guidelines. Or will we be getting 'deals' for free scientology personality tests next?

    • +7

Very, very cynical response from you. I've forwarded your message to the appropriate peiple: I really don't see why it's so hard for you to accept that billions of years ago, a galactic ruler named Xenu brought billions of people to Earth and dropped them into volcanoes with hydrogen bombs. The souls of these people, now known as "frozen thetans," are believed to be stuck on Earth and can negatively impact individuals. This is ozbargain and we have a deal. 2 frozen thetans for the price of one (includes delivery) this entire week .

  • I bet there's a tap & pay collection plate that gets handed around

    • No chance. It's all auto direct debited before you even arrive on Sundays.

  • "what lies at the heart of Christian faith"
    Money and Control!
    Solved!

    • -3

And yet who takes most of our money and exerts the most control?
Is it Church or is it government?

Some people get it, most people don't. It's like those people who are born and grow up in a cult, they think it's normal and OK to accept the dogma and drink the koolaide and anyone who has different beliefs is a loony. Until they wake up and figure out they were brainwashed all along.

The myth of authority is the greatest superstition.

'Paid course for free'. It should be church pays you for taking the course. But this ad is asking us to take it for free.

I'll give you a free lesson

John 6:7 or 8:7 depending on your version

, Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.

    or

If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her

    Ezekiel 23:19-20

"Yet she became more and more promiscuous as she recalled the days of her youth, when she was a prostitute in Egypt. There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses."

    • As always, superficial readings of any complex topic is likely wrong. Consider familiarising yourself with commentary providing historical and cultural context to understand the deeper meanings within biblical text.

      • On Ozbargain? You're kidding aren't you?

  • -2

Yeah, nah. Modern religion falls so far from the bibles teachings that it has become obscene. I am pretty sure that there is plenty of passages in the bible that say “keep your religion to yourself” or something along the lines of “be seen but not heard”.

If we can’t post deals for firearms on this site, religion and religious anything should be banned right along side of it.

Can’t believe that so many people believe in a Harry Potter type book of its day being lauded as fact. Jesus, even if he did exist, and I highly doubt it, was the 2000 year ago version of a religious nut job like David Koresh.

Edit: didn’t get a chance to neg this because it was moved to forum as I was writing.

    • +2

      pegaxs - Nailed it!

  • +1

I am pretty sure that there is plenty of passages in the bible that say “keep your religion to yourself” or something along the lines of “be seen but not heard”.

In Old Testament, there’s no proselytizing directive, however, derivative religions actively “encourage” conversion.

Jesus, even if he did exist, and I highly doubt it, was the 2000 year ago version…

For all their failings, religions brought order to curb chaos of their time. “… Pray for the welfare of the government, for were it not for the fear of it, people would swallow each other alive."

    • +1

      Matthew 6:1-6

Be careful that you don't practice your religion in front of people to draw their attention. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.

sooo… yeah… Bible basically saying STFU about your religious beliefs lest you wont be let into heaven. You are taught to teach by example, not to go around soliciting for new believers.

religions brought order to curb chaos of their time.

You mean that time where the Spanish were going around killing people in the name of the bible? Or was it during the multiple "Crusades" that the religious sect went around killing people in the name of the bible? Is that their version of "order"?? Believe in Christ and God OR receive death? Sounds like that Eddie Izzard skit about "cake or death"

      • Crusades was a papal directive to free formerly accessible holy sites and pilgrim passages from Islam. Yes, the noble intent was to bring order to what was perceived as chaos. As to what it became - means for power and wealth through destruction - you’re implying that don’t happen anymore in our mostly secular world?

        • +4

          you’re implying that…

The only thing I am "implying" is that ALL religions should just STFU. Religion is a scourge on this planet and against humanity. Religious zealots tend to forget that their religious beliefs apply to them, not to everyone around them that don't subscribe to their fairy tale books and imaginary sky person/entity.

For a book and a belief that preaches so much peace and love, it sure seems to be filled with a lot of war and hate…

          • -1

            @pegaxs:

For a book and a belief that preaches so much peace and love…

Unsure of which “book” you’re reading, but Genesis begins with disobedience, punishment, murder and a curse. Literally, everyone’s killed save for one family before it’s done. Ignoring historical content, Old Testament is basically a user guide on how to win favor with God.

          • -2

            @pegaxs:

Religion is a scourge on this planet and against humanity.

            Atheists can be worse…

            • -2

@jv: I agree. That's why I don't associate with either, religious beliefs or atheism, and I think both sides need to STFU. Atheists are the Tesla owners of religion.

I disbelieve the existence of atheism as much as I do religion and theism. They are both as equally useless on my opinion.

          • @pegaxs: Except your religion and then it's perfectly OK to spout your beliefs and proselytise?

Oh that's right you're not 'religious' so you can do all of things. lols.

I think my favourite is the kid drowning in the pool and the mother praying to God not to let her drown and all the neighbours yelling out "Thoughts and prayers!!"… I'll see if I can find it…

Edit: found it Admittedly, it is about gun violence, but it does just echo the stupidy of "praying to God" to fix something…

    • +1

I’m misunderstanding the logic in the final decision box: “Could God have created a universe with free-will but without evil?”
Fundamentally, “free-will” is the knowledge and a choice between good and evil. Without evil, “free-will” is what? Man was created in image of God, that means with faculties of God, viz-a-vis, “free-will” - this is unique to Man - without it you’re left with an intelligent animal.
