Might be useful to mention why this is a bargain. Is it below the spot price of gold? If so, how much below?

      • +7

If the US rates are going down that means there is less inflationary pressure. Gold is typically a hedge for inflation. Lower inflation means less demand for gold and a fall in value relative to the USD.

A fall in USD due to lower offical cash rates compared to Australia will see the AUD strengtheN, it’s already happening. It means gold becomes cheaper to purchase with AUD.

        • Gold has also gone up during deflation and liquidity crisis

          • -1

@jono78: The reason why this occurs is because the deduction given by @gamemaster above is the traditional economics view of how gold prices work.

I would argue gold prices are tied more to the economic stability and strength of a nation (rather than just inflation) which also takes into account things like deflation and liquidity crisis (ie. stability) and things like a nation’s debt ceiling (ie. strength).

Elephant in the room with the U.S. debt ceiling ever rising, people are beginning to question the value of the U.S. green bag, which is just a piece of paper. Some say let them print themselves to oblivion while we hold gold (or Bitcoin) which is limited in supply.

The price of lots of things may rise but you're still not saying why buying gold from Kogan is a bargain compared to buying elsewhere.

        • I checked after opening the link: 24 months interest free if pay by installments and no monthly fee, but there's one off fee of 6.5% …

    🍿 Time!

Ozbullion.com. If I’m shopping at Kogan, gold bullion is definitely one of my top priorities.

Is it safe to store gold with them ? What about if they are going down ? Will our gold safe ?

    • -1

      This stakes cents, thanks.

  • This seems to be slightly above the current spot price for both 1/2 and 1oz bars.

  • +7

    ~$136/oz above spot

    • You can pay with the discount gift card.

      • +2

Nope. When I checked last night you can not use gift cards to make the purchase.

      • So how much would I end up paying - still above spot right?

        • -2

its about $100 above spot, which is about 1/3 of 1 percent otherwise known as 30bips. So a any discounted gift card of 1% will outweigh the mark up. So if you can pay with discounted GC this is below spot. It'll be arbitrage territory for professionals. But ozb are amateurs given the comments.

Shopback has 0.5% cashback offer for existing customers now. Maybe it is worth making a new KGN account for 2% cashback?

  • +11

… why does it have up votes if it’s not a bargain? Ozbargain crowd has changed lately

      Kogan shills out in force

    • I can get this for about $3700/oz, where can I find it cheaper than that?

      • +5

You'll be stuck at $3900+ credits in account once KGN cancels your order.

        • -1

          If you died tomorrow…….
          You worry too much.

      • I thought 3900 was a decent price. Where you getting it that low?

      • @jimojr will you be able to pay using kogan giftcard credit? does kogan cancelled or something?

  • Better than Perth Mint or treat it as stocks via plus500 ?

What kind of a post is this…

I don't trust Kogan with my card details and you're buying Gold from them. Are you sure it's Gold?

    • +3

It's not Kogan and it's "New to Kogan", 3rd party.
So it has less trust than Kogan, might as well buy Gold from ebay or aliexpress.

I must qualify this to say that I have purchased twice from the Kogan site. Once was fulfilled by Kogan and once was a third party. One item was not as described and one was never sent. Both I could not get remedy from Kogan and had to charge back my credit card.

The page says "Sold by Kogan.com"
Warranty: This product is covered by the Kogan Guarantee so you can shop with confidence.

      Just fyi …

Card details? Can just use Paypal or Google Pay, no worry about card details as merchants do not get card details from Paypal or Google Pay.

  • +3

    Cheaper elsewhere as commented above

  • +2

    Doesn't even support band 28

  • +4

How is this a bargain when it’s their regular price which will fluctuate with the gold price?

    • It's not a bargain. That's the answer.

  • +3

Better looking bars for cheaper with no tungsten filler guarantee,
    https://www.perthmint.com/shop/bullion/minted-bars/lunar-dra…
    https://www.perthmint.com/shop/bullion/minted-bars/kangaroo-…

$17.50 for shipping (or free click and collect if you're in Perth) and 1.9% credit card fee, but can avoid that by paying via direct deposit.

  • Can we use kogan gift card here ?

  • Bar? It's an oversized coin.

Unless one wants the physical gold then look to invest in gold via the ASX with code PMGOLD.
Unlike physical gold it has none of the associated storage, insce, etc costs, and has total liquidity

    • Problem is, paper gold defeats the whole reason behind holding gold in the first place.

    • Pmgold is for buying Perth Mint share and not gold right ? Which platform will be best to trade gold ?

    • -1

Can you pay with discount gift card for under $3700/oz? This deal is not for everyone, only for those who can get discount gift card and have extra money to spend.

  • How easy is it to sell it?
