MUSCULAR

92 points, Wine Spectator Magazine (US). Maryann Worobiec, Senior Editor & Napa Bureau Chief. "The core of this rich and succulent red oozes with ripe huckleberry and marionberry flavors that show hints of sage, dried bay leaf, cigar box and spices, with plenty of white pepper and fresh cracked black pepper on the finish. The tannins are firm and muscular, but never get in the way of the rich flavors. Drink now through 2033."

91pts Wine Enthusiast Magazine (Best Buy).

Vintage: The 2021 vintage was an excellent one on the Limestone Coast. Weather during flowering was ideal for good fruit set. The season was relatively mild with only one day of reasonably intense heat (in late January), rain was also minimal meaning minimal disease pressure. The conditions from late February through to April allowed the red varieties to ripen slowly so winemakers could pick at optimum ripeness. The reds have exceptional colour, intensity and great fruit expression.

Winemaking: Crushed and destemmed before fermentation in a static stainless steel fermenter. It spent 9 days on skins before draining off the wine for maturation. Oak was predominantly French Oak.

Only 85 cases available.

Cellaring:Drink now to 2033.

Screwcap. Vegan.

Winemaker: Bec Hardy.

  • Coonawarra rich?

@avinit86 Limestone Coast. A little north of Coonawarra.

      • Ah why not…:)

        • +1

Ah ha. This is a great drop for the price. Had a bottle over lunch Saturday and Sunday last weekend. As I’ve said below the best of the wines we’ve made for Costco US. Enjoy! RD :-)

          • @RD ADL: Outstanding drop.
We’re spoilt for choice with all of these!

            • @avinit86: Glad you’ve enjoyed it! :-)

  • Thanks RD, will give it a try. All other "Bec" wines have been good value and good drinking!

Thanks @brew. This is a lovely wine. A pallet left over from a 100,000 bottle deal for Costco in the US. This wine beats Napa at their own game. 90+ points from one of the most influential wine magazines in the US at a price point Napa can’t get near! IMHO the best wine we’ve sent over to the US at this prior point. Enjoy! RD :-)

      • Wow! On the basis of this I will buy another case at this price. Thanks for the additional info.

        • Wow. That wasn’t the intention but thank you for that :-) RD :-)

  • The lower alcohol level (12.5%) which is somewhat unusual nowadays in most reds is what tempted me to buy a dozen. Hopefully it's as good as the previous reds I've bought from you folks.

    • @rcj your comment made me go and check the analysis. The back label and post bottling analysis is actually 14.5%. I can only assume a typo on the website which I’ve now corrected.
I am happy to refund you in full and apologize for the error unreservedly. Please dm me for a refund if you wish. RD :-)

      • No problems I'm happy to proceed - thanks any way for the consideration.

        • Appreciated. Thanks :-)

  • Just had some of the 2020 Vintage of this wine & it was quite a good drop and now expect the newer vintage to be as good or slightly better (to justify the additional 75 cents per bottle value - only kidding).

    • Haha. Some recovery in grape pricing from some of our growers now that China has reopened. :-)
