I just booked a stay in Singapore getting 20% off the room. Some room types were cheaper with the Friends and Family discount but unsure if they require any proof of being a 'Friend and Family' at time of check-in so I went with this option.

Don't even need to pay with a visa card, just book via the link and you can enter any CC including Amex

    • wow, can you? Sometimes these things revert to original price when actually paying if you don't pay via the method mentioned for the deal

    • Any idea if you can elect to pay in cash instead of with any card?

  • Ah, so this has been a thing since at least a year ago? Dang, wish I knew earlier!

Does this work if you are using the ambassador free night thing?

    • +2

No you need to book a specific rate for the free night which is full price.

  • My pockets snug

  • Thanks OP. Anyone know if the booking is debited to visa card in AUD or is it subject to international transaction fees? Thanks!

    • AUD if your hotel is located in Australia. Can't speak for international locations.

    • Only a guess but a search I did was showing the amount in AUD but also the foreign amount. I am assuming they will charge it in the foreign amount directly with the hotel. Accor does this unfortunately.

Thanks! That's what I thought but was hoping it would not be the local currency.

        • +1

My Singapore booking said they will charge in local currency on the last day of cancellation.

    • +1

Usually in the hotel's local currency

Seems legit. Holiday Inn in Bangkok is $25 a night cheaper than Agoda using this. Including the taxes.

Did you factor in the FX rate?

  • +1

Been a thing for a while. Mastercard offer is 15% off and doesn’t have the restriction on being Thursday to Sunday.

  • Even better with IHG friends family links….

    • Here is the link: Family and Friend

But it is a little bit random. It ranges from 15% to 30%. Sometimes it is better than VISA rate and most of the times VISA is better.

      • Thxs, Family & Friend was better for me !

        • Were you asked to show any evidence of who your friend/family was at any point in time?

  • +2

Booking.com showing same price. Not sure just a marketing strategy

    • Not for my booking, got proper 20% off

  • such a pain both our cc are now mastercard. One used to be visa and the other mastercard, but Westpac changed to mastercard as well

  • Seriously?

IHG hotel in Tokyo, a 4.5 star, standard twin room in October costs $750 AUD per night?

    • major western chain hotels in Tokyo are expensive - just book a cheaper one. Problem solved.

  • Anyone know if this can be used multiple times?

  • Just checked this for a hotel in New Zealand, and the rates are more expensive even with the 20% discount.

With 20% discount, price per night $322 AUD, with family and friends $342 AUD

Without the above discounts applied, normal rate is $309 AUD

  • anyone here paid for using mastercard or amex for the "visaoffer" link?
Does it work out when you check-in your hotel? Does the hotel add charge for not using a Visa card for booking.
Any success stories from booking online to check-in/check-out with "Visa20ff" offer ( I mean using Mastercard or Amex).
