This is actually pretty cool, thanks. The UI is far better than PlantNet and has more useful information.

Seems to work fine on regular household plants. Will be interesting to compare the challenging ones.

    • +1

Thanks for the positive feedback, much appreciated :)
I'm glad the app did good with the house plants, let me know how its doing with the more challenging ones

        Any plans for Android please.

      • I got this app on IOS with lifetime licence. Now it's telling me to pay

  • +4

    does this include nso pegasus

  • I wonder if Apple did a Sherlock again with Apple Intelligence…

    • +3

Good point, AI is going to make all these pre-AI detection apps seem worthless.

      • +2

Only if all model gets it. If not this will be useful with my iPhone 13 as I am not buying anew one till this one gives up on me.

        • This shall be sooner than latter if Apple has anything to do with it.. 👍

    • +2

The iPhone Photos app has been able to ID plants for a few years already.

  • This app is useless for terrarium plants!

I took 5 pics of my plants and all were wrong ID

    • +3

Sorry to hear that, can you let me know the plants names so I can make sure to add them to our model?

  • +1

    Same available for Android??..
    Cheers..

    • Unfortunately the app is only available for iOS users at the moment

  • Thank you OP, I happen to have this app already but now it is premium.

  • +2

Thank you. I am logged in as guest. Is there any benefits to login? The only options is thru goodle or apple account. Email is not available.

    • +1

When you are logged in you can participate in the community and share your plants :)

  • I’ve being using this app sporadically but I am happy with it. It’s pretty fast and it identified those plants that I was curious about.

    • I'm glad you find the app useful, thank your for the feedback

  • Thanks OP, very handy.

  • Thanks OP, I have been using the free version before.

    • You're welcome, enjoy the unlimited access!

I’ve found ChatGPT does a pretty good job of plant identification these days, in the free version

  • Will try it next time visiting the botanical garden !

I had this App and claimed their lifetime Subscription about 1.5/2 years back.
But they cancelled that ‘Lifetime’ subscription after maybe 6 months. Not so good.

    • If that’s going to happen me in the near future, I’ll write a review then delete it.

    • Same for me, had premium from a past deal and have been using the app on and off. opened it up today to check after seeing your comment and it’s back to a free membership. Didn’t think they would revoke a ‘lifetime’ membership and since I don’t use the app often I have no idea when it happened

      • Hey jingy, please check out my reply to “PopCounty”

    • +2

We have never revoked any subscriptions on our app, and moreover, Apple would never allow us to do such a thing.
Simply tap the 'Restore' button at the bottom of the offer screen to regain access to your subscription.
If you're experiencing any issues, please contact us through our support email, and we'll resolve it for you.

The default camera app in iOS already does this, just swipe up when looking at one of your photos and it will show what it has detected in the image (not just plants either, can be animals and other stuff too!)

    • You're right, the camera does offer some similar functionality.
However, our app provides an entire ecosystem, not just recognition, plus you get access to real people in the community for consultation.
Either way, it's free so you might as well give it a try

  • +9

Consider your privacy when you use this and other apps that you give permission to use the camera. They also get access to all the photo metadata that the camera adds to the image.

    Including your precise location.

As their privacy policy states under "Information We Collect" ; "The App does not collect any personal information about you unless you voluntarily provide it to us."

Now, if that isn't a concern for you then move on and ignore this :-) Otherwise this app does have the option to work from images in your photo library, so you can strip metadata before uploading it to them. Significantly protecting your privacy. Remember, often with apps, you and your information are the product.

    /removes tin-foil hat.

At the moment we don’t have ads in the app so your data isn’t shared with advertisers, and the information we use is solely for improving the experience, not for any other purpose.
You can also choose to upload photos from your library if privacy is a concern.
      Appreciate your feedback!

      • +1

"At the moment," being the key term. App used to monetise through subscription payment, and is now on OzBargain trying to pump up member numbers. Seems like a play for monetising through advertising if he can pump up the user numbers enough.

This is not the goodness-of-heart play it's being made to seem. I have nothing against making a buck, just have the integrity to be open about it.

  • +1

thanks, OP. I installed this on an iPad and on an iPhone that share my single iOS account, and had to request free subscription on each device.Would have expected just the first one, rather than per-device, and this makes me wonder what happens if you delete or have to reinstall the app.

I've used PictureThis for plant identification in the past. Both apps identified my orchid as a moth orchid, while Plant ID decided a crysanthe.. chrysanthu… chrysanthemum was a daisy, then a florist's daisy, but did get the chrywotsit genus right (in very small print if you scroll down. old people like gardening. old people also like large letters that they can read. This app does not support large user textsizes with Dynamic Type, because iOS programming is done by young people with good eyesight.)
    .
Nice polished interface, very much like PictureThis from a first glance.

PictureThis was more upfront about the chry word, but doesn't support DynamicType either, and has an annoying Pro subscription dark pattern dialog with a tiny greyed cancel at top right, so it's a slight usability win for Plant ID here.

But this space is getting commodified fast, and we're just a couple of phone generations from this being built into the operating systems' photo functionality alongside AI. Aim for acquisition, I guess.

    • +4

The default iOS photos app already does it.

    • Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback.
Your point about DynamicText makes complete sense.
We honestly hadn’t thought about it, so thanks for bringing that up.

“This is a plant” IT WORKS!

Always free, and helping the science researchers - use iNaturalist. I heard about it on Dr Karl Podcast. If it doesn't recognize something, plant, insect or animal, you can submit it and someone will ID it for you.
    iOS version
    Android version

I’ve been using this for years, and it’s mostly great I agree. I thought they had stated that it’s more for wild plants, and not really suited for gardens or house plants with where the plants are bred for specific things - but I can’t find that now. Has that changed perhaps?

      • +2

The scientist who mentioned it with Dr Karl was Jess Ward-Jones who is was talking about identifying bugs, which I have used it for, and I have also used it for fish species.

  • Thanks. I was hoping to try an app. I will pass on feedback

  • Would be great if you could manually add plants if the app gets it wrong. I've got 2 which it is mis identifying

    • +1

Valid point, we'll take it into consideration for next updates.
      Thank you!

  • Thank you OP, have downloaded and identified 1 plant so far. Will report back after some more use but looks good, UI appears well done…

  • Is this 100% safe to identify if I can eat the fruit of a random plant?

  • Thank you for this offer. Can you explain how useful the app is without creating a login account?

    • You can do everything the app offers without creating an account besides participating in community discussions.
Which includes all of the features mentioned in the post

      • Are plants saved into the account?
If I sign in into my account from two devices will I get all my plants in the second device?

  • How does it go with Australian Native plants ?

    • Quick test and it does have some local to me (Impressive) though some common names are questionable. But that can be difficult as different areas may have different common names ..

Keeps prompting me to subscribe and no free lifetime button

  • I've installed this app on my ipad, but there's no "Free Lifetime" button on the offer screen. Only paid options.

    • same, I get the usual subscription offers, no free lifetime one

  • I am receiving the same issues as @Macka1080 and @kurabi. There is no, 'Free Lifetime,' button appearing.

    • are they out of the promotion period so no lift-time anymore?

  • Doesnt work for me either.

  • @okplanter has this deal expired?
