Steam Cleaner for Carpet, Upholstery and Tiles (Grout)

Is there such a thing as a good multi functioned steam cleaner (with attachments suitable for carpet, upholstery and tile grout etc)?? Most seem to be good at just one thing.

  • Best thing for grout is that pro cleaner in the grey pump from Aldi and a toothbrush. Ive used a Kaarcher steamer, which yes, is handy for glass if used regularly, but nothing elbow grease wont achieve.

    Carpets are pro territory imho.

  • Grout/hard surface cleaning uses the steam to blast off (high pressure) the dirt. Carpet and upholstery use chemical cleaners and then hot water plus a rotating brush to 'trigger' the chemical (like a laundry powder and washing machine) and then have a vacuum to remove the chemical from the carpet. The steam itself isnt doing much of the work Low pressure, not that much steam, lower temperatures.

I dont think you will find anything that does both as they are quite different activities, just both involve hot water. However, you can buy steam units which have variable steam power (eg McCulloch) where you can use it for grout and also on carpet using a different setting, You are just washing the carpet with hot water, not with a chemical cleaning product, but you may prefer this - its not as good but no chemicals. You need to make sure you arent using too high a temperature and causing problems to the carpet (eg wool) and I dont think these machines recommend using it on carpet, but you can.

Carpet cleaning is pretty easy and its definitely something you can DIY, even the cheap hire ones from bunnings etc do a good job. A pro job will be better, but perhaps not that much better to be all that noticeable. More money but less of your time I guess.

Upholstery can be a bit more delicate so need to make an assessment before DIY.
