    • Worked for me with no issues, I’ve had that happen in the past with other items though, are you subscribed to Amazon Prime? Maybe that’s the issue?

      • Prime User and I got this before to SA 5433 and 5700.

  • +1

Does anyone know how much this product should be diluted before use? Can't find any clear instructions unfortunately.

    • +9

Ratio: 1:40 or 50ml per washer bottle.

    • +2

I sure 50ML for 4L water, otherwise too many bubbles

      • +26

        50 Megalitres seems too much

    • +1

Same here. Been using this product for 10 years and still don't know lol

      • If you can't read the bottle how are you driving?

        • After watching a few Dashcam Owners Australia videos: one does not need to know how to read. Or see.

  • +1

Dont know why I need this but just as I just bought Bosch wipers from Amazon UK at almost half the price as Supercheap due to mine becoming soo noisy, hopefully this will complement them nicely!

  • +10

windscreen washer tablets are more cost effective IMO.

    https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B07GDDG5TF/ref=ox_sc_ac…

    • +4

I didn't even know these were a thing. Looks more convenient, thanks

    • +9

From a review (translated by Amazon from German):

*** Update even if you dissolve several tablets in the 4 liters or one tablet in a spray bottle with 750ml water you can not notice any cleaning performance. It cleans like normal water and has no additional cleaning or dissolving power for grease resists, fly dirt or anything else. Absolute zero number of the product.

    • +1

Yuck, it probably has bicarb in it to make it effervescent, which means it can leave water stains. No thanks!

      • +1

The Bosch one is blue. Where does the blue go?

      • Surely it would only do so if the water was acidic. If that's the case, you've got bigger problems. Even then, it would neutralise fairly quickly, a few minutes maybe. Certainly way less than a washer bottle lasts, even on particularly filthy trips.

  • Can get Valvoline 417001 5L for $26.50 from automotive super store if anyone needs that

    • Is this a concentrate or premixed?

      • It's a concentrate

      • Heres the product information where it confirms it is a concentrate.

        Under easy to use.

If my math is correct it should make a total of 500L

        • Nice, might give that a go. Should last at least a decade.

    • Have you used this before? How is it?

  • +2

As an ex traigic VW guy who cant stand them now after 3 bad experiences in a row, i have to recommend their stuff for windshield shampoo.. it smells so good. Same as the stuff they use in BMWs from factory (which they dont then sell)

    • +1

      What was your bad experience?

      • +15

I bought a Golf R MK6 brand new, then a polo tsi, then tiguan 2018 162tsi. All brand new.

        Golf R
        Gearbox failed.
Haldex stopped working and was replaced (car was FWD and only found out when it was raining).
        Air con failed and replaced.
        Mechatronics replaed twice.

        Polo tsi
Driving to work and car gets stuck in 1st gear. They can't engage any other gear and had to be towed back to dervice centre.
        Gearbox replaced.

        Tiguan
        Gearbox failed and replaced
        Sunroof leaking but fixed.
        Wiper issues motors replaced.
Heaps of stuff that hinestly i csnt remember.
        Window motor drivers door failed.

All rhe above was done under warranty, but honestly, now that i have a better job was going to get an S3 but passed on that and went electric. Wont miss the servicing costs either. I know the golf and tiguan had a lot more stuff i cant remember and frankly i dont want to, but yeah it was awful.

        • +7

A mate bought a brand new Polo GTI years ago (supercharged and turbo charged model) it spent more time at the dealers getting repairs in the 1st year then on the road, ive always been a bit scarred of VW after that

        • +8

what made you keep sticking with VW? lol

          • @viper8548: The cars are great to drive and be in when they’re working.

The sheer number of mechatronics and gearboxes they’ve killed however makes me think they’re pretty rough on them.

They’re automated manual gearboxes and therefore need to be treated with some mechanical sympathy.

        • +1

3 cars 3 failed gearboxes.. one constant.

          • @ripoffmerchant: Op probably needs to drive it with some more care but you don’t buy a Golf R to baby it.

          • @ripoffmerchant: The polo was my sisters car whos never lost a point in her life.. the tiguan was my wifes car. The R was mine.

The one constant is that its a VW.

        • Surprised you didn’t have more issues. I house sat for VW Passat owner, that had mystery flat batteries. VW dealer kept telling him it was because he let it sit too long.

The glovebox eventually caught fire they found the wiring was rubbish and the light was constantly on even when the glove box was closed.

Could have happened to any car I supposed but took VW almost three years to get to the bottom of a simple electric fault and it was only after the car caught fire.

It was an all day activitity every time that piece of shit needed to be towed too, his apartment wasn’t tall enough for the truck to get in. They would send a big flat bed, who would then call someone else to tow it out from under the apartment.

Regretted house sitting for him just because of the amount of trouble I had with that car.

        • +1

Lemons haha. Eurotax hits hard, never again ey.

        • Just to balance things out, I bought a brand new VW Up! from a dealer in Brisbane when they were discontinued for $9,990 driveaway. Brand new. I put 291,000km on it and all it owed me outside of regular servicing was brakes, tyres and batteries. Averaged 4.4L/100km over the life of the car. Granted, it did have no features at all.

        • Daaamn, that's a bad run! Out of those 3 I'd expect the Polo to have failed.

I've owned two of the three in your list and have been absolutely great. The MK6 Golf R I bolted a Garrett GTX2867r turbo, water meth and other mods on, with 100% stock internals. Did it at 120k kms and 60k kms later it's still going strong! Absolutely no issues at all.

Still own a Tiguan (my second 162TSI R-line). It's still under warranty and touch wood is OK. Only thing that died so far was an ambient lighting LED in the interior door trim which was fixed under warranty within a day.

          • +1

@eek: The Golf R was a beautiful car. Had a lot of issues and warranty work during its 3 years , however once all got resolved i kept it for a few more years and gave it to a family member and its been great. It doesnt have meth, but is gots some mods (DP, fuel pump, intake, FMIC, Custom dyno etc) and goes great.

I actually ended up putting a Golf R turbo, FMIC, DP and custom dyno tune on the tiguan.. also still going well.. but man again those three years were a nightmare also.

I think i mentioned above, but this time i was going to get an S3 but mrs blocked the transaction sighting the emotional damage.

When working cars have been great, just hard to recommend when 3/3..

Did you 1/4 mile the R? Ours ran a 12.7, but a decent launch control added, would see an easy sub 12.5 all day long.

I saw a golf R, with just a hardcore launch controller, stage 1 tune, air and DP crack a 12.1 which is ridiculously good for light mods, he did have lighter wheels also. Mind you this is 2014 so 10 years I'm sure a lots changed.

            • +1

@BusMan247: 11.86 in full trim (with 2 empty child seats in the back) was the best I got the Golf R. I didn't want to go balls-out crazy on the torque delivery and launch control given it was all stock except for bolt-ons (Custom fabricated manifold, full frame Garrett turbo, LPFP, HPFP, downpipe, intake runner flap delete, WMI, Haldex controller, etc). Could have pushed harder on the tune but left it as is for some reliability for a daily driven vehicle. Last I heard it's still going strong.

Great to hear you modded the Tiguan with the IS38! The EA888.3 is a great engine and if you flashed the DQ500 software too it would wake up the car a lot! I find the drive by wire and gearbox to be a bit sleepy sometimes. The DQ381 in the MK7.5 R is much more lively, but obviously doesn't handle as much torque as the DQ500 Tiguan box would.

    • Yeah, tell us about your bad experience

    • +5

why are you smelling your windows?

      • +1

You don't smell the exterior of your car before u hop in??

        • +7

cant say I have sorry, maybe the day after ive used Carnauba wax i've smelled a pleasant smell in the garage, i drive Renaults so my car normally smells like oil and broken dreams

        • I don't, but that's because I drive a $hit box!

    • +4

I used to travel interstate often and always rented base model Golf Tsi's from Thrifty. Out of the 8 times I rented a Golf, 4 of them had a DSG transmission error message and rough shifting. All 4 of those cars had less than 25,000km on them.

    • This is the BMW one. I have the genuine one from the BMW dealer, and this one - they smell exactly the same.

      • +1

Why does it matter how the windshield washer smell?

In fact, why can you smell it from within the car?

  • How is this different to using a few teaspoon of car wash instead?

    • +2

It costs $9.94 more but apparently it smells premium.

      • I use Meguiar's NXT car wash as windshield washer and it smells really good too

        • +1

Wjy does it matter how it smells? You are not aupposed to be able to smell it.

          • +1

@jecec: You seem obsessed with the idea that people shouldn't be able to smell things that are outside their car. It's unusual if you can't. Even with aircon on 100% recirculation, it's totally possible.

            • +1

@banana365: Obsessed? What made you say that? Question remains. Why is it important to have smell?

Would wiper fluid being odourless be undesirable?

In fact, it seems to me that there is an obsession to how wiper fluid smells.

              • @jecec: OK, maybe not obsessed, but asking the same question twice within seconds of each other and only a couple of posts apart is a bit weird.

Smell is a huge part of why people buy things. You can even buy "new car smell" air fresheners. Smell has a massive effect on emotional response.

                • @banana365: Fair point. Very interesting now that i think about it… car polish and tyre shine too

                • +1

@banana365: I'm having trouble finding tobacco-scented washer fluids. Oh wait… My ashtray has that sorted. 👍

                • +1

                  @banana365:

                  "new car smell" air fresheners

These things are absolutely bonkers - the off-gassing VOCs in new cars just smell like melting plastic and drying glue 🤮 - because that's what they are.

My last new car, I had to leave the windows down in the garage for a couple of weeks before the smell dissipated. It's awful.

    • @ viper Prob not a lot in practice but how do you rinse the car wash off?

This product is primarily ethanol and water so won't need rinsing.

  • Or pour a cup of metho in with the water.

  • +3

Do they have the blinker fluid too?

  • Says $17.10 over here, not sure if i did something wrong but perhaps this deal is finished.

    • -2

Did you tick the 15% off coupon?

      • -1

        Why the neg?

        • I didn’t neg, but 15% off $17.10 is still $14.54.

  • +2

Got to love how this thread morphs into a hate car rave….lol

  • How is this any better than the el cheapo bottles at SCA?

    • Cause its Bosche :)

      • No it's Bosch

  • How does the smell compare to the orange coloured Sonax Clearview 1:100 concentrate?

  • +1

Bought this on the last sale. Not as good as Bug Off. Will go back to that.

  • -3

Things you never knew existed after driving for 30 years! Water works just as fine with an occasional stop at the servo when's not, $$$ saved and less crap to go into the stormwater.

  • +5

Bars Bugs concentrate is my go to, $5 for 600ml and even cheaper when it's on special.

    https://www.repco.com.au/car-care-panel/car-care/windscreen-…

    • Unless they've changed the formula, that has ammonia, very alkaline. I'm not advising it but you could just as well use the old Windex, or some diluted cloudy ammonia from Colesworth

Why ammonia is bad for windcreens

  • +2

This will strip wax or any hydrophobic coatings in your car.

    • +1

If it's getting into your car you probably have bigger problems too deal with

      • on* your car

    • This will strip wax or any hydrophobic coatings in your car.

It's supposed to do that - because that's it's job. The whole point of the additive is to strip whatever is on your windscreen glass.

      • +1

Just pointing it out for anyone who has a coating etc applied to their car. Its kinda obvious when it happens but not when you're purchasing.

    • Thanks for pointing this out. Is this something you've experienced before?

So what would be a better alternative for those who like waxing their cars? Or just stick to plain water I guess?

      • +1

Yes, it stripped the top and back of the car while using it in rain on a motorway. Okay if your car is stationary as it just gets wiped and drained. I have only been using it when the car is at a stop.

      • Treat your windscreen (eg RainX or whatever you prefer) then just use H20 (or distilled water if you live in a hard water area).

  • I was told to add a bit of windex to the windscreen washer fluid. And it works with not water marks.

    Does this product work better?

    • Not sure who told you that but they are wrong. Windex is harsh and if any over spray gets on your paint it could damage it.

      • Very little difference in the active chemicals or concentration. Personally I wouldn't use either.

  • +2

How does this taste compared to the cheaper stuff?

    • +2

Finally, someone asks the important question!

  • Is this good blinker fluid

    • No but it’ll clear your Turbo Encabulator right up.

  • I use this stuff in my car and it's great, got 5 litres of it for $25 from Automotive Superstore back in July.

  • +2

How does this compare to "Bar's Bugs Windscreen Cleaner" ?

    • Bars bugs never using again, overtime it just created black sludge at the bottom of my wiper reservoir tank which clogged all the wiper sprayers.

    • +1

BB has/used to have alkaline ammonia. See my comment above. This product is essentially alcohol, water and a tiny amount of antifungal according to the SDS.

  • This is about 40c cheaper than the average price listed on camelcc.

Are a handful of the thumbs up on this deal moreso related to the fact that the users like the product as opposed to the pricing?

  • -1

    ok for Tesla Y?

    • +2

sorry this doesn't work on EVs

    • No, this one is methanol based, you'll need an ethanol based fluid. Hard to come by because all the deros were drinking it. We couldn't just let Darwinism let it run it's course apparently.
