Ozito PXC 18V/36V Line Trimmer?

It looks like my 10-year-old Ryobi Petrol Trimmer is on its way out. I am part of the Ozito Eco System and am looking at their Line trimmer. I found they now have a 36V.

What's everyone's experience with the Ozito 18V/36V Line Trimmer? I have a 1,200 sqm block and am concerned about it not doing the job in the long run. Especially with some of the reviews on the 36V motor smoking!

I own the 36v line trimmer and it works great for light jobs. Around the edges of the building or concrete paths, along the fence. I like the fact that I just plug in two batteries and it runs. No mixing fuel. To pulling the starter cord for 12 mins. No flooding the engine. No messy clean up. No hot exhaust and it runs for ages of 2 x 4ah batteries (can do my whole property, front and back and still have 1 or 2 bars left on the battery).

What I don’t like is that it only has a single line outlet, you can’t remove it and attach different types of heads/cutters and the head can’t be swivelled to act as an edger. It takes 2 batteries, so if you need to swap out for more run time, you need 4 batteries. It isn’t brushless, so it could have more power, but it has enough. The venting and motor cooling just seems forever blocked up, but no smoking from mine… yet.

    • "only has a single line outlet"
      This one?

Can only see one piece of cutting line, but assumed other is hidden by the spool.
      .

      • Yeh, that's the one. And yes, on the spool head, it only has a single line. All of my petrol ones in the past have all had twin cutter lines.

    • runs for ages of 2 x 4ah batteries

      How long does it run?

Can the single line cut through thick or long grass like a petrol one can?

      no smoking from mine… yet.

      5 year warranty should help.

        How long does it run?

How long is a piece of string? I use the 4.0Ah batteries on it, and it runs long enough for me to do both the front yard and the back yard, along all fences, all the edges, around the house base, garden edges… and still usually has 2 of 3 battery level lights. I dont know, this maybe takes me an hour or so?

Can the single line cut through thick or long grass like a petrol one can?

It seems fine. I mean, I dont go out and slash paddocks with it, but I am lazy and the grass here can get pretty nuts along my fence line and it's no issue there. I dont think I would use it to clear a 1/4 acre block with waist high spinefex type grass.

        5 year warranty should help.

Too late for that, mine would be well over 5 years old. It also lives outside hanging on a wall, under a car port. Still no smoking.

        • Thanks, sounds like it's OK. 5+ years is good.

I also own one and agree with all the comments. Another thing that I don't like is the ergonomic of the unit, you'd get tired if using it for some time especially on your grip. I solved this problem using this:
      https://www.bunnings.com.au/grunt-25mm-x-0-5m-pull-tie-down-…

With regards to the burnt motor, I found out that this is mostly due to grass clippings getting trapped inside the motor cover. My motor would get slower and slower, so I dismantled the whole cover, clean the grass clippings and it's now working like new. You'd need to do this once in awhile, especially when you sense the motor is turning slower than before.

      • I also have one and agree with the ergonomics. It gets uncomfortable to use after some time.

How does the tie down strap you linked help? Just replace the strap it come with and this one is more adjustable??

The strap is to do the gripping for you, so you don't need to keep your grip on the power switch all the time. This frees your hand to grab the tool on whatever position you want to make it more comfortable. This was game changing for me.

  • Can't help with the Ozito bit but. I have the Ryobi 36v and previously had the 18v. Def would recommend the 36 over the 18, the 18 was way too under powered & only have small yard etc.

I'm on just above 1000m², I've got probably 15-20 different ozito pxc tools,.36v steel deck mower included. I tried the 36v line trimmer, added a 'lil juey' so I didn't have a bump feed but unfortunately the motor would burn out and smoke up. I got it replaced under warranty, and used it with the original attachments, same happened all within 3-4 uses.

I really wanted the unit to be great as I have a plethora of batteries and it is very simple to use but unfortunately I went through about 4 different trimmers that all resulted in smoke billowing out of the motor.

As you're aware from the Bunnings reviews it is a common issue that I believe every unit is destined for if it is used for anything other than light work. I ended up getting a Honda petrol trimmer.

  • I have the 36V one but the bump feeder and the Ozito lines themselves are awful. The lines break if you look at it funny.

That said, I rewound it with a better Ryobi line and am going to try it out this weekend. Hopefully that gets rid of the annoyance. Won't help the feeding but at least having a line that isn't incredibly brittle might help.

Never had an issue with it smoking, but that's because it doesn't run long enough to overheat.

  • I bought the 4 in 1 kit which has a brush cutter, polesaw and hedge trimmer as well..not sure if this kit is still available. It was a seasonal promo. Some folks found the unit heavy and it has the single line out of the box, but I replaced that with a cheap speed feed head from ebay no problems. Works great. Not sure how different the standalone 36v offering is. Are you sure you can't change the head?

  • On a 1200sqm block you will hate it. If you want battery go with EGO or Greenworks, otherwise just pick up a 2nd hand petrol model if you want to save money.

  • Thanks everyone for the feedback, sounds like a new Petrol Trimmer! Either a Honda or a Stihl is the way to go, might cost me a few extra but I think will be worth it for another 10 years.

Our Stihl is atleast 27 years old, although YMMV
      .

  • Can anyone recommend a brushcutter or swivel head attachments that works on the Ozito 18v line trimmer? I asked the question on the Bunnings/Full Boar website but no response from them.
