Your Experience with OCCOM Australia

Hi all, could you please share your experience with OCCOM.

There are mixed reviews in Google. They have both 5 star review and 1 star reviews OCCOM Google Reviews. One star reviews often mention do not fall in the trap of 5 star reviews as they are fake. not sure if OCCOM is good or bad.

I was trying the change the ISP and found this OCCOM they provide greater speed with competitive price when compared with other provider. Our place basically has this fibre box/ black box (Think this is FTTP) and have limited ISP who can provide internet from Supa Networks ISPs Supa Networks ISPs.

Please share your experience with them, thank you so much.

  • By the sounds of it you live in an apartment with Opticomm. From what I've heard its a privitised version of the NBN put into apartment buildings as back handed deals with developers.

That aside. Why not sign up to them. If it's bad move elsewhere. There are other providers that service Opticomm premises'

    • Yes definitely deal between developers and providers. Was looking for better speed and competitive price among the providers in the apartment I found OCCOM but the thing is there are mixed reviews and I don't want to keep jumping on different provider each time, also this OCCOM has a 30 days notice before existing Thank you for your insight.

    • Sadly if OP is on Supa Networks, it's not even Opticomm, it's another private fibre network

  • they are expensive. and somehow people think they have no choice, thats not true.
    get other providers

    • As far as i know only Opticomm provides has access to the fibre box. if we want to use another provider we need to either get 4G/5G provider or Satellite provider like starlink. Mobile reception is not good in the area usually only get 1 bar signal and sometimes no bar signal, so don't know how 4G/5G will perform, starlink is expensive and don't know what sort of speed you will be getting. Thank you for you suggestion.

    Your Experience with OCCOM Australia

    I can't recommend them…

  • Been with them for 4 years now. moved houses twice. My only complaint for this process is that the first time they charged me $50 for relocation, but the second time they did it for free.

Overall only had a few dropouts when I was with NBN at my first address and it affected the whole area which means it's not OCCOM's fault. No issues thus far with opticomm.

Communication and support has been fine, just do it over the livechat instead of the phone where I suspect they have less experienced employees on that team. The reviews are definitely not fake the staff just always ask you to leave a review after they're done helping you.

    • What speeds are you getting from them and are you using the Opticomm Fibre? Is your current place connected with that black fibre box. Thank you. If you could share the suburb you are in that would be great. Thank you. Just hesitating because of the mixed Google reviews with 1 start and some had 5 star reviews so. Also i think their support is in India as i received a call last time from them and they were asking me to provide the fibre box serial number and lease agreement. Thank you

      • I'm getting 200-250 mbps in Macquarie Park with a small black fibre box. FTTB opticomm. They also asked me for lease agreement it's for confirming addresses that are hard to find in their system apparently.

        • Ok Thank you so much. Could you please confirm you are with their (250Mbps Rocket Fibre 250) with fee of $110. Will contact them and see how it goes. Thank you for sharing your experience. I appreciate it!

  • Don't have experience with Occom, but just pointing out that the RSP range there for Supa Networks is pretty dire. I would try plug the address in Launtel / Exetel to see if it shows up with any other fibre networks that may have more choices. Not recommending either of those two RSPs, but they do seem to cover most if not all the private fibre networks out there.

From the Supa Networks list of ISPS, the following companies have "A Company of Tele Tech Communications P/L" in their footer:

    • Blitznet
    • City7Net
    • EspiNet
    • IQNet
    • NewAusFiber
    • Wave Zone
    • Zen Net
  • terrible.

  • Last time I checked, they had surcharges on all their payment methods, which is illegal according to the ACCC.

    https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/pricing/card-surcharges

I told them about this and I don't think they did anything with that information. I even made a complaint to the ACCC, but I don't think anything will happen because they always choose to action when there is a large volume of complaints, not a single weirdo like myself complaining about a small provider.

    It's still there: https://occom.com.au/terms/CIS/CIS_OCCOM_NBN_Unlimited.pdf

    Payment Surcharges

    • Card Transaction – 1.21% for Visa and MasterCard, 3.52% for Amex and Diner, $0.44 minimum
    • Bank Account - $0.44 per transaction

** If you would like to avoid paying surcharges or change your payment method, please
contact our support team for discussion.

So they are just shamelessly flouting that rule, but the underfunded ACCC might not have the resources to tackle every transgression by smaller providers.

    • I pay via direct debit with no surcharge

      • Then how do you explain their CIS stating that bank direct debits still incur a 44 cent surcharge?

        • I dont know i just checked my last bill, it had no surcharge.
