Do They Make Square Quad Powerpoints

I want to replace a duel powerpoint with a quad powerpoint but I have 2 issues.

  1. The current powerpoint is imbedded into the kitchen splash back tiles - so I want to use the existing hole/bracket.
  2. The wall is too close to simply replace the existing duel powerpoint with a horizontal quad powerpoint.

To work around this I am hoping they either make horizontal quad powerpoints with off-centre screw holes that effectively add 2 powepoints next to the existing one (if that makes sense)
or
If they make square quad powerpoints with the same screw template as a duel powerpont that would also fit.

Anyone know if either of these exist?

Never seen a square one in Oz and I can't imagine compliance would allow the leverage of having the screws not at each end (one end flopping about with no anchor)

Any additional height would require cutting the splashback to get it flush again anyway, in which case a standard horizontal 4 gang sounds like it will be fine.
If you're happy with the switches sitting proud of the splashback, new holes can be drilled for the required screw holes.

Note: I had a 4 gang horizontal added to a kitchen years ago, but when it was installed I was warned ideally not to plug more than one of toaster, microwave, coffee machine or kettle into it (cause using two of these high power devices at the same time would trip the breaker)

All power point sizes fit into same size hole usually. So you can swap a double for a quad
But if being close to the corner is your problem then indeed you have a problem

Yes, you can get quad powerpoints that fit into the hole in the wall for a dual powerpoint.

The project outwards from the wall surface to allow the depth for the additional outputs at each end.

But … they are centred on the hole. If there isn't enough room either to the left or right of the existing hole, they're no use to you.

And as the other poster points out, their total load over the 4 points is still only the same as for a two outlet powerpoint they replace. So you can't plug in lots of high power using appliances and use them all at the same time.

Your choices are a powerboard, two vertical double adapters, or a pair of three-ended (one 10A plug to two sockets) power cables. At least a powerboard has an overload trip on it that prevents you trying to use too much power..

    • Short Piggy-back extension leads could be another neat-ish option.

The neatest option would be changing the plug on the end of two of the appliances' power cords to piggy back plugs. You'd select the two highest current appliances, and NOT change the plugs on those, so they could not be plugged in one on top of the other.

Fits on a standard hole (existing hole/bracket), otherwise renovate your kitchen.

    • That is not square…

      • Well OP can make it a square with a hacksaw blade? 🤷

Even though the comments state this

Fits on a standard hole (existing hole/bracket)

I can't see how it can work without trenching out the splashback to provide the necessary depth for the pins of sockets 1 and 4 (or mounting it on a mounting block so it is no longer flush)

      • +1

I got 1×4 on a kitchen flashback which replaced my standard socket without any modification to the hole or bracket but cant comment OPs situation without visualising it.

"kitchen flashback" Yes I remember having one of them. Bad trip

They project outwards by the necessary amount.

        • Fair enough, the Bunnings photos make it appear almost flush.

      • Thanks for this comment, had not thought about the depth of the prongs.

In my experience none of the power points in India, Japan, the US or Australia are square in the way you have described.

If you don't like Microsoft PowerPoint, you could try Google Slides or Apple Keynote or Canva

  • Mounting for in-line four has provision to be mounted in place of standard twin outlet. If standard outlet is recessed into tiles, never seen this, you can purchase a stand off block.

    HPM make one, cat. CM450.
Says 84mm mounting centres, but not sure if need a quad wall box or if it will fit standard one. You may need to call them and ask.

  • +1

As far as I'm aware no not in a quad 2x2 fashion.

The standard 4 Gang 10A GPO uses same mounting hole centres and ends up 38mm in depth from mounting surface.

I actually installed one last week. Yes I'm licensed.

I've been using a power board to sold the problem the OP has. I've just solved the problem a different way that lets me get rid of the power board. I've just bought a combination microwave, grill and air fryer. Not that I bought it for that reason. I'd just gotten tired of the half the kitchen bench being taken up by three different appliances.
